As other big tournaments brought a lot of gamers into the forefront of professional Starcraft, we hope that the Canadian Cup will be able to promote and boost Canadian E-sports. Our passion is Esports in Canada and our goal is to mainstream E-sports. l2sc dreams big and because of this, it's our inspiration to create and promote a bigger and better community for Canadian E-sports. The Canadian Cup was the mastermind of 2 months of planning and we hope that the local Canadian/Western America Starcraft 2 community can embrace what we have created to help make our dreams come true.
The road to the Canadian Cup is series of online and offline events that will culminate with the Canadian Cup.Winners of the actual cup can make their mark on the cup in any way they please; from writing your name on it, to painting it pink. We will leave the creativity to the winner of the cup. With support from our community we can make this happen and then some. Starcraft 2 is just in its infancy and as the game grows we hope the Canadian Cup can as well.
This tournament is our first step into the Canadian Cup series. This one will start off big! We will begin with 4 days of qualifiers and end with a day of finals. We have formatted the tournament so people from all skill levels have a chance of winning a prize and possibly moving onto the finals.

Looks awesome, gl with your tourney!
|
Awesome, I am definitely going to this. Should be a lot of fun
|
why does it always have to be saturday
|
This looks totally awsome, ill have to try and make it out for one of these qualifiers =D
|
Nice, maybe HuK can win this tourney. GL Huk! You will win for Sureeeeeeee.

If this goes well we hope to have different ways/days to enter future cups.
I am sure you can get one Saturday off in Nov to play some SC2

Cool tour, and I'm pretty sure prize #4 is worth as much as prize #3. At the same time, 128 * 40 = 5120, so how much are you pocketing..? With so many players, that kind of a buy-in will mean that a lot of lesser players wont bother, and you could end up with 20 signed up.

Well we definitely arent here to screw our SC2 community out of money, You can ask anyone who has came to our previous events that.Try renting out a lan cafe for 5 days and see the number you get, plus promotions(we have been running 25$ koth's every saturday since sept 25).
We are doing this because of our passion for Esports and to hype up the local SC2 community, not pocket $.
With the prize pool, sponsors the type of tournaments we have held before its worth your 40$. Also we havent posted some of the prizes and other sponsors we got because they havent gave us a full list of what they will be providing us. We are trying to make it so all 32 players in the finals get prizes.so that means you just need to finish top 2 in your pool of 8 to make it to the top 32.
Also unlike other LAN tournaments, you would pay 20-30$ for a a winners/loser bracket system. This makes it so if you lose every game you only play 2, In our system its a minimum of 4 games played.
Regardless im sure the people who went to L3 can back l2sc.net and the tournaments we run 100%.

The L3 Lan was awesome, and extremely well run. Everything ran smoothly and the atmosphere was always positive, no technical issues and they even finished on time. That being said this tournament is a step down from a full league, and combined with the sponsors and prize pool, I believe that this is the largest or second largest local tournament this side of the states. And besides that you're guaranteed 4 games, with basically a 1/4 chance of continuing to the finals and bagging at least one prize. You could even throw in pot odds at winning coin, and I bet they're better then most elimination style tournaments..
And besides all that, you don't have any problem with big corporations banking coin off tournaments and games (GSL), so even if they were banking some coin, why do you have a problem with it?
I'll be showing up for sure, better watch out for Terrans new 3pronged attack, Sensor Towers, Tanks and BCs. Be ruining face all over place.
|
Oh man, gonna be so awsome, and I am so their for this one!!!!!
|
lol where's the tournament page, i think i'm blind xD edit: im guessing it'll be up on tuesday lol
|
Wasn't VS Gaming supposed to close down?
|
Tourney page will be open Tuesday (tomorrow)! We are just getting the last few pieces of the multi-day registration tested and working (I hope) .
|
This is going to kill everything productive I do.
EDIT: Props for the tourney layout, its very well thought out based on the location.
|
Pressing the register for day 1 button, doesnt seem to be working!!!!
*nevermind didnt notice the part that pops up on the bottom. Im sorry if u got Arkless as registered 5 thousand times!
|
Looks great, these guys are a very good organization and I have worked with them before, and wish them the best.
|
Hype. Hyyyyyyyyyype.
*Edit* Ok, I've composed myself. I want to say that you've got a sick sponsor on-board, Sennheiser. I seriously have only had headphones from one other brand to come close to Sennheisers, so pimp that shit well, 'cause they really are top-of-the-line and I'd love to see them stay as a permanent sponsor.
|
wow, sick prizes well worth over your 40 bucks even for 4th 5th and 6th. This is gonna be so awsome! i am stoaked!

If you show up for like the first day and pay $40 do you have to pay another $40 to play another day?
And registration doesn't seem to be working right now
|
On October 13 2010 09:58 MarF wrote:If you show up for like the first day and pay $40 do you have to pay another $40 to play another day? And registration doesn't seem to be working right now
If you show up for the first day, pay your entry fee of 40$ and dont make it to the final 32. You can show up week #2-3-4 and pay another 40$ for another shot of getting into the final 32.
|
give me 1-2 hours and the registration should be working 100% for the tournament.
As it is right now you can reg for the site but not the tourney. This is currently being fixed.
Thanks for your patience
Ill update the original post with a Registration link when we are good to go

should be able to reg for tourney fine now, i just did.

$40 per qualifier is a lot =[ will there be any seeding?
|
On October 13 2010 14:23 MarF wrote: $40 per qualifier is a lot =[ will there be any seeding?
Remember you just need to finish top 2 in a pool of 8 to make it to the finals. If you dont make it into the finals you are more than welcome to try and qualify the next week if registration is not full for that day.
We haven't made any official announcement yet, but all 32 finalists will be getting a prize of some sort.
The pools and brackets are completely randomized.
|
On October 13 2010 14:23 MarF wrote: $40 per qualifier is a lot =[ will there be any seeding? a) 40 bucks, for a chance at a thousand. Sounds good to me b) Even 4th 5th and 6th are worth well over 40 c) The event itself is worth 40 just for the good times. Lan cafe's for the day aren't exactly cheap. d) They are getting more prizes!!!! It's gonna be awsome, seeing as how i'm a closet nerd in mission it's gonna be rad to finally meet ppl in the valley that are as into the SC2 esports scene as I am.
|
Oh I know it's worth it, I just don't want to be stuck in a group with stalife and drewbie haha I'd also probably come with my friends and it would suck if we were all in same group... But yeah amazing prizes i'm still pretty excited
|
We are still trying to get as many prizes as we can. As NoHrt said we should have something for everyone at the grand finals, I would really like to get something to everyone at the qualifiers as well. I cant make any promises but I will try hard.
Registrations are open and working fully now! Check out http://l2sc.net for information and sign ups!!
We will be going off a first come first serve system, if you are looking for a day make sure you get in there ASAP. We will be able to overflow some people but only if spots are still open on the next day.
Day1 = Nov 6, 2010 Day2 = Nov 13, 2010 Day3 = Nov 20, 2010 Day4 = Nov 27, 2010 (Out of town people first please) Grand Finals = Nov 28, 2010
Please let us know if you have any questions or feed back about the site!
|
Will there be room for spectators to watch the games?
|
Space is pretty limited.
We should be OK on the qualifier days with some spectators. During the grand finials we may have to ask people to tune into the stream. I will be better able to let you guys know how its going to work after the first day I would guess.
|
On October 14 2010 02:28 MarF wrote:Oh I know it's worth it, I just don't want to be stuck in a group with stalife and drewbie haha I'd also probably come with my friends and it would suck if we were all in same group... But yeah amazing prizes i'm still pretty excited
Just register on a different day than stalife and drewbie and youll be fine
you, eternis and chease got stuck in the same pool at L3 cuz you guys showed up late and we had to put all 3 of you into the same pool. Show up on time this time and i dont see that being a problem =P
|
What kind of skill level do you think you are exptecing? I want to come, but at the same time I dont want to show up just to get roflstomped.
|
When are you expecting to find out about these other prizes you're talking about?
|
The skill level will vary quite a bit. We have formatted the tournament as such that every player will get to play at least 7 games. Each qualifier day will have 4 pools of 8 players. If you do the math each pool needs to advance two players for a total of 8 per day. Basically all you have to do is finish top two in a pool of 8 to advance. The pools will be completely randomized, with the entries from that day.
We have a few of the prizes on route to us from the major sponsors and will be posting them as we receive them. My guess is we should have the full sponsor prize list in about 2 weeks, depending on the actual shipping naturally. Other little prizes will most likely not be posted and simply given out on the days.
|
Bump, because this is awesome. Can't wait for more info, and I'd love to see a lot of people signing-up.
|
Thanks Ced!
Make sure you tell your friends all!!
Please let me know if you notice any issues with the sign up or anything like that.

|
Can you guys release the replays for the quarters to finals as a replay pack?
|
We will do what we can to collect all the replays again and post them for sure.
|
Looks nice.... I wish it was in Toronto instead of Vancouver

Our J!NX prizes just showed up, we've got some t-shirts, some stickers, and some patches, as well as some gift coupons.
tournament details are up on our site

|
Really wish the registration fee wasn't so high. It almost feels like its a good way to lose money... But you really do learn something. It sucks to lose
|
Anyone interested in practicing the map pool? I would hate to lose because of some cool map exploit that I didnt know of.
I am 1500+ diamond and Id prefer to practice with someone in diamond as well. PM me and we can start practicing some 1v1s.
|
Hey guys,
I setup a vote on the main post. We were thinking of adding iCCup maps to the map pool. Id like to hear what you guys think about this. So please vote!
the poll is located at the bottom of the main post.
Map pool will be posted on Friday
|
Hey just a quick question, I registered for the first saturday but now thanks to school I wont be able to attend, could I get my signup moved to the 2nd day?
|
Hey Elcheris,
That should not be a problem. If you could please post on the l2sc.net/community page we should be able to get that updated for you.
I will let NoHrt know just in case you dont have time.
|
Will there be streams/spectating? I'd much rather come and watch. Haha.
|
Yes, I will be casting the event live on http://l2sc.tv.
We should have room for spectators during the qualifier rounds. During the Grand Finals we may ask everyone to tune in as space is a little limited.
Its more fun to play though, I promise
|
Okay awesome. Unfortunately I'm terrible and I'd rather watch. :'D Cheer on people ~

Is there any way to see the list of players that have signed up so far? I'm interested in joining but if its a ton of 2200+ players I won't even bother wasting my time Awesome tourney though!
|
We have some great talent in Van but the pool is not that deep
As a happy middle we are going to post the list of players (to assist with people confirming they have signed up). But we are not going to post the days everyone is in.
|
Sounds awesome! Now to scrounge up 40 dollars...
|
|
I won't be able to attend (i live in edmonton) but I'll definitely tune in!
And yes, you should definitely use iCCup maps!
They are the future of competitive SC2 ;D~
|
Please, do not add in the iCCUP maps. I really dislike them and they dont fit well.
edit:
prodig - please don't take any offense. I appreciate you work, however.
|
Please no iCCup maps !
|
Kawaiirice is coming again!?
|
|
Map Pool Has been posted.
Check the main post
|
if i pay the 40$, if i get knocked out the first week, do I have to pay again to attend the other weeks or I can attend the other days?
Is food covered?
|
That is great that the brakets are completely randomized. Gives me at least some chance that i will be matched in an easier bracket. Although i could be in an incredibly tough one too
|
@backtoback If you dont qualify on your day you can buy back in the following week. You would have to pay for a new spot again, yes. We currently do not have any food sponsors so no food is covered unfortunately. There is a Tim Hortons right next door and their stuff is reasonable of course.
Yeah, the random is pretty random. Everyone will run into a few tough matches but good practice and solid mechanics should carry regardless of the player. I would really love to see some upsets.

Should have the player list up this week. I think we are only going to do battle net names/ids.

Fair enough, great to hear! Thanks.

this is the west canada cup, hand the trophy to drewbie. bring the tournament to ontario or montreal and you ll get a better showing: huk, kiwikaki, slush, ttone, myself, and im sure theres more im missing. not to mention the wealth of high ranked ladders players residing in toronto and montreal. anyways nice tournament!
|
If we can grow this I would love to have an Eastern Canadian qualifier or something like that. Until then you guys might just have to come over to the west coast and get beat over here
|
haha maybe one day. once the price pool gets a little higher im sure we ll make the trip

I can say the same for the players out here in the west. Drewbie,KwaiRice,Stalife,Neans,CheAse im sure there's more im missing. And all these players live in 1 city. Vancouver has the biggest SC2 community out side of korea hands down. 10-15 players in the top 200 are from the Lower mainland. For a city of 3 million.. thats a pretty good ratio imo.
You East coast boys should fly over here and win it if your so confident
Anyways yes we plan on doing on this event on te east coast to... Its called "Canada Cup" for a reason It just so happens i reside on the west so starting it here was the way to go.
Edit:
kwai is from seattle, close enough

Not to mention players we have like SCanemone (who would cast the event), EternuS (who is siiick) and CheAse, who hasn't laddered much lately, but is still pretty damn good. That's only naming a few.
I just realized, the main line-up is going to be West-Terran vs. East-Toss.
esportscanada.net could set-up a little grudge match come mid-November. Best-of-7 ProLeague-style. We have some awesome casters available who would jump on the chance -- SCanemone and Carefoot.

Guys. The amount of skill that is bred in eastern canada is hardly comparable to that desolate wasteland you call the west coast. First off we all know Drewbie was born and raised in mongolia, before he moved over there so he doesn't count. Stalife has a wife and 4 kids that live in Ottawa, and spends most of his time over there and only calls himself an albertan so he doesn't have to pay taxes, so you can hardly call him a westerner. As for the rest, well I doubt they can compare to the might of the Ontario/Quebec powerhouse team.

Ok guys, official thread is up in the blogs section. Start posting some ideas! Right now I'm defaulting to Best-of-9 epic team match.
http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?id=163635
On-topic: NoHrt, I know a lot depends on the turn-out and success of the first tournament, but any idea when you might continue the Canada Cup or related projects after the first?
|
|
sounds good bring your best. you know our roster will be stacked. May I suggest on the format?
each team submits a roster + starter with a default map for the first game.
a game will be bo1. if east wins, then east will choose which player they want to play next. then west will choose who they will put against them, aswell as the map, but no map repeats. and the format will continue like that. map pool : ladder
|
This entrance fee seems high. The tourney will collect $5120 from the players + ???? from the sponsors and only pay out 1700$? Am I missing something?

As for the rest, well I doubt they can compare to the might of the Ontario/Quebec powerhouse team.
Is this guy on crack? I could be wrong but Drewbie might have been born in Mongolia (care to confirm drewbie? lol)
But he doesn't look like a mongoloid lol. Stalife defiantly does NOT however, have 4 kids and a wife in Ontario. He is like 18 with a girlfriend he brings to the lans lol.
Regardless
If u east coasters think ur soooooo good. Well here is the platform. Instead of coming into a west coast lan thread trying to see who's dick is bigger. Why don't u show up and we can settle this Karate Kid tournament style nukka's.

yes you are missing alot
1) This lan spreads over 5 seperate days. And the lan center has to be rented out for each day (not sure the price but that is probably 95% of the remaining money outside the prize pool) 2).............. Ok you are only missing one point. But it's a big point!
* Also, the sponsors aren't giving money to the organizers (Go to l2sc.net for more info) But for example, coke donated lift passes to whistler backcomb( if u have ever been their, you would know a one day lift pass is 150-200 depending on the season) All u have to do is buy a can of coke to be entered into the raffle. More prizes coming to, as well as some un anounced ones. I see that J!nx has donated prizes as well.
I understand being 25 may be a little older than the usual sc2 player, but 40 bucks seems like pennies to me for a chance to win 1k, especially if u r confident in ur skills

I don't think there will be too much of a conflict on this. If both tourney's get off well perhaps a joint effort in the future? MLG Canada here we come.

Sponsors are providing prizes, no money to us, most of the money is going to the tournament prizes, and the location.
Jinx is giving us T-shirts/swag coca-cola is giving us lift tickets VS-gaming is providing location sennheiser is giving us headsets.
I am still working on getting some more prizes, hopefully I'll get word soon.

their's just started as well. so not sure who gets trademark, but as ic3d said, e-sports > fighting games, so they copied us
our influence was strictly canadian, we wanted something that would ring true with all canadians, canadian open, stanley cup, canadian world tour, things like this, we ultimately chose canadian cup. We like it.

Does that mean your going to sign up! =D Some regulars to the 604 SC2 community have yet to sign up. Which is a bit concerning.
Winner can make his mark out of the cup anyway he wishes.

just to avoid the confusion, you can sign up for any day, however, if you're coming in from out of time, we recommend staying on the 27th to avoid having to stay for more than 1-2 nights as the finals are on the 28th.

Yes, jk87. That covers your qualifier day as well as Grand Finals day, if you qualify.

Cool, also I would assume bringing your mouse/keyboard/mousepad is fine as well right?

yeah so it's pretty much $40 for 4 saturdays of gaming at a lan, that's pretty good.

Your entry fee includes playing in 1 qualifier. If you qualify your invited back to the finals on the 28th.

ok, so $40 for potentially 2 days of lan... that's still pretty good.
Do you get to stay there the whole day and play, or do you have to leave as soon as you play your qualifier?

I think its funny cause I quoted you.
But I recall VS saying all players are getting a day pass to play. Meaning they could stick around after the qualifiers and play more SC or other games.

You play 7 qualifier games, should be about 4-6 hours of gaming. Top 2 players from each group of 8 go through. You play the 7 other players in your group once each.

I signed up with account terran151
Hey i got an email saying i was signed up for day 1 qualifier tommorow but i posted in this thred that i needed to move to the 4th day because I have had too much school to practice. I was told i was moved to the fourth day but I dont know how to tell which day from the l2sc website.

Just a quick question... I read that for each day, "The pools will be completely randomized, with the entries from that day."
Wouldn't it be somewhat better to split up the 32 people in to the 4 groups partly based on ELO? (like top 4 ELO in each group?). Chances are low but it'd be weird if 3 pros randomly get put in 1 group and 1 person doesn't make it into 32 finalist stage.
|
then he'll have to come back another day to qualify :D I'm hoping for a group of death in qualifiers with sinatra drewbie firezrg scanamone kawaiirice and laglovah :D
|
And Cedstick. I heard that guy is fuckin' amazing.
|
The point of this is not to get all the 'pro' players to the finals. If we wanted to do that we would just do the Ro32 off invites. We want everyone to have a fair shake and get first hand tournament experience. This is not a tournament "for the pros". I want to see someone upset a 'pro' and emerge from this tournament in their own right.
We are here to make 'pros'. They are out there, and tournaments like this will give them the shot.
|
So, I'm debating entering this with my friend b/c we're high plat, is there a restriction on rank? also byo gear? or do we have to use the gear supplied

There's computers there. You can bring your own keyboard, mouse, headphones though (but I think you can't install drivers for them for security issues)
no restriction on rank.

All, Due to unforeseen circumstances we have to change the location of the tournament. The remaining two qualifier days and grand final days will take place at DNA Internet Cafe in Richmond BC. Their address is below:
4351 No 3 Road Richmond, BC
Please post on TL or contact either of the below l2sc admins if you have any questions in regards to this change. All registered players are still locked in and should show up at DNA at 11am on their qualifier day.

I looked on google maps is that like south of the airport?
|
hey so, instead of getting 12 hours of gaming at VS, what happens now that the place is changed?
|
for the 2 qualifiers we have reserved 16 computers for the full day, for the finals, we have 32 computers for the full day. Unfortunately since this is last minute we have, as yet, been un-able to set anything up with DNA.
|
I like the chairs at DNA cafe quite a lot :D I don't know why you guys changed last minute, but hopefully nobody shows up at VS-Gaming on Saturday! haha

We are doing everything possible to tell the people who have registered for Canadian Cup that the venue has changed.
This was not our choice. Unfortunately VS is closing its doors for good on Wednesday. We got notice of this last night and have been working to make sure the Canadian Cup can continue going. Luckily for us DNA cafe reached out to us when me and Ic3d made an appearance at the S.A.D lan.
|
I am very impressed with the way you guys are handling this. Not only was the OP updated along with added posts but i even got an email about it earlier today, thats awesome. Having booked my plane tickets and hotel room last night it would of sucked to not find this out lol. But thanks to your work there was no way to miss the change.

I am glad to hear that Steeped, truthfully we are most worried about the out of town people.
Please make sure you contact us if you have any questions or anything:
joshua@l2sc.net or chris@l2sc.net
Yes, Richmond is south of the airport.

Day 2 Round Up!
Day 2 of the Canadian Cup has came and gone. With smaller than expected turn out we set off for the next few hours, 1v1 StarCraft 2. I knew we were going to see some sweet games due to the 2 Team NOVA members that came out Firezerg and Stalife.
What was the best thing about the day as it went on was the amount of hidden talent that came out to Day 2. Ganon which was able to defeat Stalife on Metalopolis. The perseverance from Stalife should give you a good laugh if you watch the VOD. You can catch all the VOD's from Day 2 of the Canadian Cup at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/l2sc-tv
http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/10840989
Also as you might be aware or atleast i hope you are. We had to change locations of the Canadian Cup for the final 2 weeks. So the new location is DNA cafe in Richmond,BC for the last 3 days, Nov 20, 27, 28. VS decided to close its doors and the l2sc.net staff had to scramble to find a new location. We were lucky enough to meet Chris from DNA at the S.A.D lan back in October. He was excited to hear we are going to host the final days at DNA.
This also means we can stream live from the event! We were having problems with the internet connection at VS, But now at DNA with the 10Mbps Down/10Mbps Up we can do a full production for the finals at DNA!
We got some great players moving onto the finals on Nov 28th. Here is the final bracket and scores from Day 2.

Yeah, it is really backwards. Not sure exactly why that is. My only guess is that Canadians are not as eager to leave their state/province as most Americans.

Canadian Cup Day 3 Round up!
After a night of light snowfall in Vancouver it didn't stop StarCraft 2 gamers from showing up to Canadian Cup Day3! We had 28 registered players for day 3 and we were excited to see the games as were the 28 players.
We arrived on site at DNA cafe at about 9am. Early because we needed to setup and get ready for the day. Ic3d was able to be onsite for day 3 so we could live stream from the event! We setup webcam's and a casters table so we could get some awesome coverage for the people watching the stream at http://l2sc.tv.
At about 11 the players started rolling into the cafe and we gave them about 1 hour of practice time. We started the into at 12 and we were off to the races at 12:15.
We had 3 brackets and the top 8 players of these brackets would move on to the finals on Nov 28th.
Here's the final points round up: *Players marked green move on to the finals

If by next weekend you mean this weekend, then yes, it definitely is going to be fun.
|
no it's next weekend for drewbie

This is the last weekend...

I know I'd get crushed in under 8 mins every game and I still want to come to this, but I have had to work every saturday and work this sunday and the ferry over. Keep putting on great event like this guys.

I hope they are but havnt seen any info on that. It would suck for 8 people to only play 2 games and be kicked out.

Yes the finals are 32 man bracket.
bo3 quarters = bo5 semis =bo5 finals bo7

I thought it was supposed to start at 11. The stream is doing stream testing- doesn't seem to be anyone around, or any brackets posted.

The actual tournament is tomorrow starting at 11am.

Just got back from Day 4, had a lot of fun. I did better than I expected and even won while being streamed :D
I really like the group format. Even if you lose all your games you still play throughout the day, rather than being knocked out after 1 or 2 matches.
Can't wait for the finals tomorrow and future tournaments, you guys are doing an excellent job.

GOGO rSLagLovah!!! Great job so far sir, I cant wait to see more!!

Aaaaaaaaaaagh, for some reason a bunch of my pictures aren't on my SD card D: I still have a few good ones, though, so no major loss, and all my video footage SEEMS to be there still. Can't wait 'til I can get off work and go through it all. The TvTs turned-out to be way less painful to watch than expected -- they were actually pretty exciting. Tons of amazing games all together, and lots of great people showed-up. Some upsets too, but that's how tournies work.
Didn't get a live podcast done there like we'd hoped to, but we'll still, of course, have a post-tourney podcast, bringing some of the finalists on (other than the regulars, of course!)

Can we come watch today? ?_? I want to come see on my break. And make sure it lasts past 7 so I have something to do after work =D

@Ced, did you leave a canon charger at DNA? If so I have it.
I wanna thank everyone for tuning in and for all the kind words. The tournament was VERY fun and we really enjoyed putting it on.
We should have the round up posted this week. All the VODs are here: http://www.ustream.tv/user/L2SC-tv/videos
