Just as a note to everyone whos wanting to go down as "tentative", unless you send me a PM with details i am not entering you into the tournament, i need definite yes's by the 24th or the date is being moved to the 13th of nov.

Also with the map pool, dont worry about it for now i will do some looking into thing and ask a few of my "pro" Friends what they think the 6 most fair maps are and i will edit the map pool then. Thanks everyone for signing up so far, tell everyone you know so we can get this puppy filled!

I'm unfortunately gonna have to pass on this one Really wish I could make it, but both days just happen to fall on events I can't really get out of.

30th I'm out of town for a family event we planned months ago and 13th is anniversary... bummer!

I'll definitely be trying to sneak in some time to watch the live stream though

The 31'st is a sunday though so all the grown ups will be celebrating halloween on the 30th.

Or the 29th, which leaves Saturday AND Sunday to nurse a wicked hangover.

pretty sure if "grown ups" need Halloween as an excuse to drink they arent very grown up in the 1st place... stupid ass reason to not attend a lan, one thats in the afternoon especially.

I don't see how wanting to go to a Halloween party would make anyone less grownup. Its like saying that using your birthday, or st patricks day as an excuse to have a party makes you less grown up. I don't need it as an excuse to go drinking, I drink any time I want, but people tend to throw big parties on holidays(or holiday weekends in this case).

And as for it being in the afternoon, it starts in the afternoon, which means its gonna keep going until around 10pm at earliest. 32 people double elimination thats 14 rounds of play, 1 of which is a bo5 and 2 are bo3 rest are bo1. 30min/game*11rounds = 5hrs for bo1 rounds, 3hrs for the bo3 rounds, and another ~1.5 hrs for the finals thats ~10hrs total, brining it to 11pm. This is assuming all games are played concurrently and there is no downtime between games. The 30min/game estimate is a little high, but a round goes on as long as the longest game in that round, and when you consider the downtime and the fact that not all games can be played at once, its a reasonable estimate for the overall length of the tourney. Add in travel time as well and that means that I would be getting home at midnight to get ready for a party that probably started around 10 and if its a club/whatever will be ending at 2.

Seems reasonable to me to be concerned about going to an afternoon lan if you want to do something at night.

If only you read the original post and realized that this lan will not be running until 10pm. Im glad you are RIL GUD at math and all but the tournament will not run longer than 8 hours, i stated that before. You didnt at all take into account multiple games being played at a time...

I did take multiple games running at a time into account, in fact I assumed that all games of the same round would take place concurrently, which will not be the case since you are expecting there to be 12-16 computers for 32 players . If I didn't take concurrent games the length of the tourney would be much higher, something like a solid week of 24hour play, but since you are RIL GUD at math this should be obvious to you(hint: round 1 would take 16 hours minimum at 30min/game with no concurrent games)

Now what you should have attacked if you actually wanted to try and say my estimate is wrong is the length of the games, or the assumption that a round does not start until the previous round is completely finished. You can start Round 2 earlier, but it makes synching everything up messier and really does not gain you all that much time. It would probably would gain you as much time as you lose because round 1 takes twice as long as I estimated since you only have enough computers for ~half the games to occur simultaneously.

and in any case the difference is 9pm vs 10pm which really doesn't necessarily alleviate the problem of wanting to go do something Saturday night.

Are you guys kidding me? Most "grown ups" (lol) don't spend an entire Saturday playing videogames with each other. If you want to do something Saturday night ummmm.. don't sign up? Wahhh, I have to either be hungover at work or wait a week to get shitfaced wahhhhh

So everyone knows, I will be there at Noon for anyone who shows up early. I'll also be helping set computers up so if you show up earlier then the 30 minute Window MyLife has for you, I will be able to get you up and running.
