The encoding is not set in the source file, so what you are seeing is expected. This workaround above works, but it should be fixed by the developer on the server side.

thats why the gsl will be ridiculously hard to win this time around. If I had to bet, most foreigners wont make into the final 64 unless they are like tlo and have been seeded already.

nobody gets seeded into the tourney, everyone has to qualify again. Its an open tournament.
Matching Iron's name in TLPD to the brackets it seems he won his first match 2-0, and he is in the lower part of the bracket with Idra in the upper part so they will not meet in qualifiers.
To anyone who can actually read Korean can you confirm that Iron is 56 in the first column? (28 in second)

First three GSL are open without seeding. After this for the first GSL of next year, players will be given a seed based off their performance in the first 3 GSLs and this will seperated them into S and A class.
This makes progressing a few rounds in the first 3 Open GSLs very important for future tournaments.

here's some more info via playxp for those of us who aren't memory masters about korean names: a-1: 그렉필즈/IdrA (#2) 한이석/STX (#34) 장민철/JangMinChul (#56) 성보현/LenaPack (#57) (this guy has been on Gisado's Stream a few times, guess he was a no-show?) a-2: 이형섭/choya (#2) 김태균/생컨웨라 (SangCunWerra) (#16) 전연식/PhoenixWeRRa (wasn't found, maybe playxp is wrong?) i'll go back through and find which # they were in ro64, maybe GTR could fill in the gaps
Idra got a bye in round 3 because the four guys on the other side of his section didn't show.
Seriously, they should implement some kind of check-in process so you have to confirm a day or two beforehand that you are actually coming. The amount of no shows is ridiculous.
^They should force everybody to deposit $50, which will be refunded once they check in at the qualifiers. That would probably get rid of most of the no-shows.
I'd love to hear from no show statistics from the first season qualifiers and after this is over from it. They cite such high sign-up numbers but I'm curious to know the % that actually shows up, not that I think it's small or anything I'm just curious.

this is a very good idea!
Nah I disagree.. There is a point to the tourney being open.. Some talented unsponsored gamers in korea may not easily be able to produce that $50, even as a deposit.. Do you really want to risk denying even a single poor gamer the chance at making it to the RO64?
Maybe there's ways to do things differently .. but setting a financial restriction (even if it's refunded afterward) seems against the spirit of the tourney
You don't need to charge people, you just need to have a check-in process prior to the event.
Just send an email to everyone who registers two days before the event, so they have to click on a link to confirm they are coming. If you register but don't confirm then your place gets dropped, simple.
On October 09 2010 13:47 Zozo wrote: Just ban the no-show in the upcoming tournament, then 3, 12 and then forever.
Dunno, it might discourage people who aren't 100% sure they can make it. They would want maximum participation so unless these no-shows are costing someone else's spot (in which case they should implement a replacement system) they would probably prefer to have them there.
it's funny, In the NA beta scene, I wasn't a huge idra fan, not cause of the whole.. AHHH IDRA BMS and rages, don't like him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!>.. But more cause I just didn't really find his play style entertaining, but since GSL 1, I just can't help myself from rooting for him, especially after his harsh loss on Metalopolis, I'm hoping he can get through today no problem, and maybe crack ro16 this time
Are there really 32 brackets of 64 players? That's over 2000 players signing up for this. I don't remember ever seeing a number that high, and most foreigners can't get to Korea for this.
I was scared they would type the Chinese names in Korean so they would get lost in the crowd of other names, good thing the foreigners are easily identifiable.

I'm aware of google translate, however it often has grammar mistakes leading to misleading translations, so I just leave the korean text for those who actually speak it to translate. idra's opponent goes by 범준킴, is 524th on korean ladder as terran and is 249-202.

[15:05] subsequent elimination of foreign players news. Jonathan Walsh 2-1 Did not qualify a player I've had the bitterness. jinro has had horrible luck with brackets, last gsl he faced eternalprime and now he lost to that cellecelle guy
For STARCRAFTⅡ Open Season 2 there will be two new maps included in the map pool starting from Ro64.
Kulas Ravine and Desert Oasis, which were originally among the official maps for the tournament, have been removed from the map pool due to the release of the patch. Starting from Ro64 Jungle Basin and Shakuras Plateau will be added to the map pool to fill their space. As a result there will be 9 official maps for Season 2, including the newly added maps, which are as followed.
Metalopolis
Scrap Station
Xel’Naga Caverns
Blistering Sands
Steppes of War
Lost Temple
Delta Quadrant
Jungle Basin
Shakuras Plateau
The official maps for the preliminary rounds stay the same as Season 1 which are Metalopolis, Scrap Station and Xel’Naga Caverns.
For Season 2 there is also a change in the number of maps that the players can eliminate out of the 9 maps for each round. In Season 1 players were allowed to eliminate 2 maps for each round through Ro64 ~ Semifinals and 1 map for the Finals. For Season 2 the players will be allowed to eliminate 2 maps for each round through Ro64 ~ Ro32, but only be allowed to eliminate 1 map through Ro16 ~ Ro8. The players will not have any authority to eliminate maps in the Semifinals and in the Finals. Please take note to these changes will enjoying the upcoming Season 2.
We always thank you for all your support and will continue to put effort into providing you with better service.

it's not horrible luck. Jinro should have won but didn't. When you are #30 in blizz rank and your opponent is unranked and you don't win then something is wrong.

i don't really understand actually. I thought players and teams afficiliated with KESPA are not allowed to participate in GSL ( or any SC2 related things)
but apparently WMF warcraft 3 can do so without any consequences (yet) So this means WMF ( or any other progaming team) can make a Starcraft 2 division because the SC2 division will not be under Kespa. so there will be no problem for the teams to participate in both games. The players might not because they are under the progaming license and all but the same does not apply to the teams.

No need for yelling, bro. I'm just wondering why IdrA would advance when he is in the same position of the Grid and how the GSL is going to have 64 players, when there are 8 grids and only 2 per grid make it. Maybe you would better explain this, if you can, or stop capsing.
Theres 4 days of qualifiers. 8*2*4 = 64. Pretty sure that there are 8 grids every day.

It's 8 grids per day. Cause we have 4 qualifying days for GSL2 this makes 8x2x4= 64 players.

Heh if those skills of his transfered properly artosis is gonna lose.
I don't want to seem rude and I love team liquid, but... is it worth it for, let's say Jinro, to stay in Korea ?
GSL will become harder and harder and yet, he didn't qualify for the 2 first ones. One more and after every one will be seeded and it won't be opened anymore so even now if he qualifies, will it be enough ?
Same deal for Ret and Jinro who din't attend the firs 2 GSL so didn't gather any points or whatever for the future seeding.

I would say it is worthwhile as long as they can sufficiently fund them. I doubt you'll see anyone get pulled home untill at least after the end of preseason. I suspect it depends on how difficult it is to get into the season 1 after it stars.

A lot of the qualifiers seems to be pretty dependent on the brackets. You could be in a bracket with 3 other progamers or you could be in a bracket where half of the people don't show up. I'm not sure if Jinro's performance in the qualifiers is the best measure of his overall skill.
I also thought they were always going to have spots open to the public via qualifiers and only part of the future tournaments will be seeded. Otherwise the talent would get kinda stale at the top levels.
Overall, I think the Liquid` house is focusing more on improving and playing well rather than taking the whole tournament. Sure they'd like to win the tournament, but I think most of them realize that Korea's got a lot of talented players. It seems a little premature to give up after two bad qualifier draws.
From TL only TLO would qualify as top EU so im not sure why people are surprised when they dont make it since the competition in gsl seems pretty fierce...

Ease up on the Jinro doom and gloom. There's still GSL3 and he's already like rank 30 on the KR ladder. With that type of ranking, he deserves to be in Korea. Some of you guys hating on him probably could spend a year laddering and never make it to top 30 in KR ladder, so stuff it.

That would make sense, but then the GSL-Schedule would be wrong. It says two days for qualifiers (eventhough I have to admit that my Korean isnt that good :D) + cnce.kr calls the grids A to D. I remember GSL 1 to have 4 Grids with 16 players also with names A-D.
So still, I'm not 100% convinced, but I just believe you.

Funny how everyone always states that ladder ranks mean nothing and now bash someone for having a bad ladder rank and playing in the gsl, just because he is Protoss?! Some people here should start playing P and 4Gate there way into the GSL if they think thats all you need to do.

Hey guys, I'm actually as good as Nada at SC2. Never mind that he's much higher than me on ladder. Ladder rank doesn't matter remember????
Thats not what people wanted to say. Its more that someone might start playing SC2 with his account and knows nthing about the game. He gets bad stats but becaomes better. He gets a new account, playins custom games with high level players and is really good without having a good ladder rank. You can play SC2 24/7 without playing one single ladder game. And if you have friends in Korea that are really high level and practice with you, its no problem to become a really good player.

He hit a 50% winrate in mid-September and then stopped playing 1v1s. At that point he was around #3000 in Korea.
When someone starts winning 50% of his games, he is at his peak level of ladder ranking. This guy reached his peak at #3000. There are two options here: either he is letting someone who is much better than him borrow his account, or he is going to show us some terrible games in the Ro64.

Should point out that it means they've reached their actual matchmaking ranking; depending on how many games they play at that point, their ladder rating might not be accurate. The game can tend to underrate and then overrate, which can balance the win% quicker but make it take a while to hit the right ladder rating. Haven't looked at his profile so no idea how many games he played, though if it's averaged out to 50% after a decent number of games played then he's probably at the right rating.
I wonder if they should have had people check -in before arranging the brackets so that people didn't get byes and such. but that might have been difficult to do with 2k+ people

Just to clarify, if a player hits 50% at a certain ladder ranking it doesn't mean anything, fruitdealer could make a fresh account, and he could hit a point where he might go 50% because of his MMR long before he actually reaches that actual rating.
So that low ranked player could just be a lucky guy, or he could be decent and have a solid mmr, or he could be a smurf who knows.

Yep I'm stuck in that situation right now :\. I'm at 50% and keep facing people who 400 points ahead of me, so I'm going 1-1 with them and can't real bring my real rating up.

You would go up though, because you'll still lose far less points than you'll gain per match.
i.e. On one of my accounts I'm playing diamond players in gold. If I lose it's only -1 point but if I win it's ~ +44.

yea it's rather dissapointing to see such a monumental lack of foreign talent. During SCBW years it seemed everyone have dreamed about the chance to go to Korea and become a pro but when the opportunity presents itself noone goes for it.

If they actually practice a lot, sure but currently the competition isn't really all that tough
Well.. it's random. Some people get a very tough bracket, others get a Bye and weak opponents. So yeah, even when there are more pros participating, it doesn't mean it will be harder to qualify. Luck can help a lot.

It'll likely be the case that we'll only see 1 or 2 foreigners in GSL#2 already.
Does your comment mean China isn't foreign country?
Koreans arent a step above. Theres just so many more of them. Only TLO and Idra of the top westerners are represented, and one of them has already qualified.
Sad that Jinro didn't make it again let's just hope TLO has good group...
btw, was HuK supposed to participate in GSL2? If yes, does it mean he will play his games at IEM and then immediately flight to Korea to participate in the last day of qualifiers?
yea and I'd really love to see DeMuslim take part in this

Oh right, I wasn't counting Loner. In that case, we'll probably only see 3 non-Koreans in GSL#2.

It's easier to dream about it. You can't just leave everything and fly to korea. Unless maybe you are rich in the begin with and have no personal life.
to be honest, i think its more because the GSL was announced so suddenly. It has only been about 2 months since the game was released and who would expect such a big-scale tournament to be held so fast.
Moving to another country takes a lot of preparation and thinking in advance. 3 months or so at least. You need to take care of your current study/work, accomodation, sponsors, family, girlfriends , etc.
By next year, i am sure more and more foreigners will be more prepared to move to Korea. Sadly, the competition will be much harder as well. Kind of a pity because the first few GSL should be a lot more easier to qualify and win than next year ones.

And abouting seeding, this a preseason. Its purpose is to be fully open and to establish seed for the coming events. Seeding now would defeat the tournaments purpose. If your smart and truly better than the other player your going to play extremely safe and scout like crazy, giving some economy at the start but since your better, your still going to win...

Has always be like this in Korea, they address players by there name. I totally cool with that though, its a Korean things after all. We are just the curious neighbour :D
I know that it has always been like that but until SC2 and GSl they didnt care too much about foreigners at all. Afiak Gom said, that they want to make the tournament more foreigner friendly. This would be a nice addition imo

Of course there are certain logistic issues behind it but we have already seen several pros move to a different country for longer period of time for much less money(Cloud, Naniwa, Demuslim).
Well but going from italy (cloud), sweden (naniwa) and uk (demuslim) to germany is a lot easier. Depending on where exactly you are its like 2-3 hour flight or you could also go by train or car. And since all of the countries are in the european union its generally a lot easier.

They're still in Europe though. Moving from one European country to another isn't as huge as moving half-way across the globe to Korea. Its a huge difference in culture, language, economy.
Moving to Germany is a whole different thing than moving to Korea. It's a lot easier to adapt to and your not that far from home as a european. There might not be that much money to win but you've got a steady income and you can participate in any other tournament. In korea there's the GSL and that's it. If you don't make it your whole stay is pretty much wasted.
Also In Germany they get some normal appartmants and don't have to bunk up with 10 other guys in a country 12 flight-hours away with a whole different culture.
I Doubt that Demuslim made less money than Jinro in that period of time.

I really do wish there was some way for GOM to send out representatives to germany, play on a line that has good connection with korea and for Blizzard to make some kind of special "qualifier/competition" server so that lag is not an issue. Unfortunately it doesn't seem possible, but it would be great for e-sports.

Race good at going one base, race with high strength units and fewer of them, race with summonable buildings which doesn't require the worker to stay working on the building? The creep / blighted ground is the only zerg similarity, so I ask - have you ever played UD?

Well moving from Sweden or Great Britain to Germany is a lot easier than going to Korea. Besides, I am no really sure if it is for less money. They are getting paid a salary, theire chances on winning matches in the EPS (+ going to the finals) are really good since they are better than most german players and they can compete in european online tournaments.
Sure, if they make it always past R32, they would earn more money. But how are the chances? And they need someone to sponsor their stay. The OGs/Liquid house will be full at some point. :D

Dude, ghouls = lings, abominations = ultralisks. There's no denying it. Outside of the building summoning there isn't really anything similar about Protoss and UD.
edit: Anyways, these comparisons are kind of dumb. Different games, different play styles.

Plans for GSL 2011
There will be 12 tournaments throughout 2011, and there will be 4 types of tournaments.
1. GSL (Ran in January, March, April, July and September) - Main League. 32 Code S players tournament and 64 Code A players tournament. 2. World Championship (Ran in June and October) - 4 representative from each region in a 16 man tournament. 3. Ladder Tournament (Ran in February, August and November) - Tournament to decide best of Battle.Net ladder. Top 200 from each region are invited to participate in a preliminary for a 16 man double elimination tournament. 4. Blizzard Cup (Ran in December) - Top 8 (of GSL ranking I'm guessing?) will be invited to decide the best player of the year in a Bo5 Playoff format tournament.

Its not really in your own hands if you play Zerg at the highest level, you need to have opponents that are weaker players in order to advance, if they're on similiar level they're gonna crush you and this should be obvious after GSL 1.

Fact is, UD is a single base team - by a long shot compared to the others. NE has similarity in losing a worker for each building created. From an overall macro and micro perspective, War 3 UD skills are likely to translate to Protoss more than any other race.
On October 09 2010 21:36 Nihilnovi wrote: Why is GSL qualifiers day one on stream list when there is no stream, am I missing something?
It's not just a stream list, but a list of current calendar events. "On air" is misleading, but is there because most events are broadcast, historically on Korean tv but in the last few years also on online streams. These days, there are usually streams for anything being broadcast, but these qualifiers aren't televised, so nobody can stream anything.
Edit: Roffles wins this time! That's what I get for starting a reply and then leaving my computer.
Hey dunno if this is lazy of me but can someone compile a list of foreigners participating (ones with a chance not random english teachers) for the OP? And maybe list how far they get if they fail?
I don't know who else is even there except TLAF and Idra/Artosis. is Select playing?

Here's the list AFAIK:
TLO plays his qualifier on Monday Idra, Loner qualified today Artosis, Jinro, Haypro, Luffy eliminated today
I don't think there are any other notable foreigners participating in GSL2.

Really really hope we have more Z's in GSL2... Many people's favorite race to watch (I hear that comment from my brother and girlfriend who watch but don't play).

And hell, P & T get boring.
Yep also hoping to see more zergs here. Especially with the buff incoming it could prove to be interesting for GSL2.

have u ever played UD? UD is 100% zerg.
Race good at going one base, race with high strength units and fewer of them, race with summonable buildings which doesn't require the worker to stay working on the building? The creep / blighted ground is the only zerg similarity, so I ask - have you ever played UD?
You mean Undead's with zerglings-ghoul, roach-fiend and muta-gargoyle harrass? Yea, certainly nothing like zerg.
aside from wisp harass, gargoyles are nothing like mutas, aside from the fact that they shoot projectiles, roaches are nothing like fiends.
leaving out the fact that you take 3 units out of an arsenal of 15 or so and say that the races are similar. they don't play alike at all. which isn't that weird, since WC3 is a different game. not just like bw-sc2 different, but completely different.
yes, ghouls are like zerglings, but that's basically it.
there are many similarities between wc3 and sc2, but they're kind of mixed up. nightelfs buildings that can walk around is kind of like terran, but at the same time they have drone-like units that disappear when the building is built.
The guys who made WC3 were obviously BW developers for the most part and borrowed a lot of aspects from it.
Gargoyles are exactly like Moutas in SC2, not so much SC1. And i dunno why you say i picked 3 units out of arsenal of 15. It's quiet obvious that Undead were based on Zerg from SCBW, and while they might not play like zerg now, they played out exactly like zerg when WC3 came out.
no they're not. don't know what to tell you other than that, but you're just wrong. gargoyles have no splash, mutas are no good anti-air units like gargoyles, hell, mutas aren't even designed to counter a specific unit since they have no bonus damage (like gargoyles against dryads, other casters etc.). not even mentioning the stone-gargoyle ability.
and it's not obvious that undead is "based on" zerg at all. The only thing they have in common are ghouls and the fact that they can only build on that undead ground (/creep). Okay, with DK-focused strats they're pretty fast too, but nothing compared to the mobility of Zerg in BW. Other than that they literally have NOTHING in common. Not a single unit in the undead arsenal is similar to any BW or SC2 zerg unit. fiends? no. abominations? no. those catapult-wagons? (forgot their name, haven't played wc3 in a long time) no. destroyers / the healing/manaregging wagons they come out of? no. necromancers? no. banshees? no.
and if you say that undead plays like zerg you never were any good in WC3. not a single race in Wc3 plays like any race in BW or SC2. Not even remotely. Heroes are way too much of a part of the game for that to be any true at all.

I never said they were exactly like gargoyle in every little aspect but gargoyle strategically are exactly like muta in sc2, moderately good at harrassing, and good in large numbers in certain straight up fights.
and it's not obvious that undead is "based on" zerg at all. The only thing they have in common are ghouls and the fact that they can only build on that undead ground (/creep). Well ghouls are exactly like zerglings even with T3 adrenaline upgrades. Fiends were sorta out of place when comparing to SCBW but theyre exactly like roaches. Aboms definitely have ultralisk feel to them and teh way wyrms were played when i followed wc3 was a lot like broodlords/guardians.
and if you say that undead plays like zerg you never were any good in WC3. not a single race in Wc3 plays like any race in BW or SC2. Not even remotely. Heroes are way too much of a part of the game for that to be any true at all.
Well either i was bad or you are a newb and you have no idea how undead played out during RoC. In fact FE was a go-to strat for a long while in RoC as Undead. And why the blah blah blah. We're simply saying what WC3 races feel like what SC2 races and your argument is "dont."

I would rank him there with Artosis. I just wouldn't rank Artosis there with IdrA.
He is definately commentator 1st, player 2nd but he was good in bw and decent in SC2 in beta. Nobody reallly knows how much he have played after that. Maybe he is really good. I doubt he would try to qualify if he hasn't played at all

Gotta say that I'm surprised at how few Zergs made it through today. Especially when Blizz's ladder stats seem to indicate an increased % of Zergs in the top levels of the ladder - I took it as a sign that there were more Zerg wins going around. I know that ladder skill isn't necessarily an indication that you're tournament material, but it's not like we should completely discount ladder stats. Let's face it - you don't get to be in the top 100 by not knowing how to play the game.
I'm expecting those Zergs who do get into the Ro64 (and I'm still waiting on more this season) to go further in the tournament. In particular, I felt that we haven't seen Idra playing at his top. I'm sure this season, he'll avoid some of the mistakes he made in GSL1 and that he'll go far .

Well last time we had only few zergs and it went ok. At least we're going to have those few hero zergs to cheer for ^^
Does Idra play choya in first ro64 match? followed by iron/phoenix and then followed by loner/rain/ace/garnet? If it works this way (which is basically saying that all the names on the first post of the topic make up one section of the bracket) I think he has an easier path to ro8.

He had an easy path last time. But shit happens, he's gotta play incredible every series like Cool did regardless of who he's playing.
Jinro: Any other EU/NA players over there trying to qualify? According to the brackets there was one guy with an english sounding name that lost 0-2 in the first round.

Definitely. Why not try out? Tasteless is also commentating and living in Korea so he has nothing to lose. I daresay that playing in the qualifiers, he is able to meet and play people who may very well go on to be televised in the tournament or in future tournaments, giving him (and Artosis) further insight into the players so they can talk even more about him/her; bringing up their own experiences.

No disrespect to Jinro and Haypro but it seems like it would be a better idea for both them and the sponsor to come back to the US and participate in the many tournaments here instead of putting all your eggs into one basket (GSL) that you cannot consistently qualify for.

It seems that today was not exactly the day of the best players. Most of the guys who qualified will probably get knocked out pretty fast.
Can anyone of the mods or anyone else who is well informed about the qualifiers tell me if these day 1 qualified players will battle it out to reach the ro4?
As in Idra vs Choya and either irOn/Phoenix in the ro32 etc? I'm kinda confused and would like some clarification by PM or just in the OP.

as you seem to think about yourself as a big businessman let me tell you something. success comes over time. its a result of hard work. so they need time. their sponsor gives them time. your a very greedy person. hope you never have people working for you ;P

Only Zerg that I felt "deservers" to play in ro64 but failed to qualify today is Losira, althought Haypro is probably also a bit better than some of these players on the list. But even in Losiras case, he was dropped out by Tankboy, a very good player himself. Still 3 days to go, we will know more tommorow.

Yeah I probably jumped the gun there, still too early to say consistently. They are both enjoyable players to watch and it is just frustrating after seeing them in so many tournaments during beta and after release to not see much tournament action from them for a few months but hopefully if they keep practicing in korea that will change.

So you are saying that Idra or Phoenix doesn't deserve to be in ro64, or am i missing something here? Thats the most idiotic thing I've ever heard if so.

I dont know if it was a "good group" (it wasnt a terrible group, but it could have been a lot worse - there were a couple of high ranked 55%ish P players in it, the winner being an ex-pro, maybe someone else noticeable) but it wasnt a HARD group I think.
However losing 2-1 to some allins can happen when you arent significantly better than your opponent.
Id post the replays but I dunno if my opponent would want that.
I wouldn't mind if you posted the replays (if that's allowed or not bm).
Side note: Just checking on liquipedia, so there are seeded players for the season now? Cause that would be great to kind of guarantee Rainbow and Cool do make it to Ro64.

Unholyrai, indeed the current system makes qualification very difficult. It does strike me however that open, unseeded qualifiers would benefit from double elimination in order to provide a second chance from an unlucky loss. Indeed it would seem to suit the current structure where two people from each quali group are passing to the Ro64 anyway.
Double elim with bo3 would take forever. Like nearly twice as long as it already takes. I mean you can say the prelims are hard and unfair etc, but they use the same format (bo3) as they do in the mainstage of the tournament til semifinals so I think its not that bad.
Thanks for keeping the thread updated. Really glad those who made it made, and really sad those who didn't didn't. GSL2 is shaping up to be pretty awesome.

Mmm, I dont think its realistic unfortunately - and the really big names are probably usually gonna qualify anyway (tho in some cases, like Gon last GSL, they will get unlucky - he definitely was deserving of qualifying that time as well).
Lyn qualified? That's pretty ridiculously considering the fact that there is no way he could have had a lot of practice time lately... Awesome. Too bad Moon didn't

So you are saying that Idra or Phoenix doesn't deserve to be in ro64, or am i missing something here? Thats the most idiotic thing I've ever heard if so.
Yes, you are missing something.

Ive now added that to my post as well as edited it a bit to make it more clear...
here's everybody watching idra's last match he needed to qualify, as was talked about earlier in the thread: btw the TL jerseys are sweet but you know what I'd totally wear everywhere? those awesome oGs jackets somebody uploaded some short videos of moon and lyn playing:

Ah okay. im sorry! Should've pay more attention!
Btw, does anyone have any link (for the pics) or pictures from todays Qualifiers?

The only problem is no seeds which will be fixed in future tourneys...you can't really seed right now (although I think top 4 should've qualified at least) but you also can't do double elim just for 3 tourneys then take it out for the rest. OSL/MSL also don't have double elim so to do it for the GSL would be silly imo...I don't see anyone arguing that the winners of those tourneys are undeserving. If you're truly the best you'll win no matter what as long as its not bo1 or something.
Nice pictures! Damn... I feel bad for Jinro =[. And wtf? GoStop?! I haven't heard from that guy in many years. Nice to see him playing SC2 since he was pretty good in WC3.
I know some of them still play on CRT's at home which are that ratio. Also war3 didn't really support any widescreen resolution. So either one is the reason.
I'm eagerly awaiting the inevitable Artosis videos.
Wouldn't it be smart for Gom to at least give us VODs of popular players? Especially when two notables face off in the qualifiers. Obviously nobody cares about 90% of the pool, but videos for the ones we know would be cool.
Is it really necessary to play like this in the early stages of the game (first 2 vids)? :\
all he does is select all the scvs with mouse, select command center and set rally point 2mm to left, then 2mm to right, then 2mm up and so on....
Don't you think it's better to start with 250-300 apm and maintain it throughout the whole game instead of going from 50-100 and then jumping to 300 when the macro picks up? I do.
Thank you If I understand correctly, each spot for the ro64 is determined by playing a 64 man bo3 single elimination tourney ?
Top 2 of each '64-man bracket' advances to the ro64. From the first day, 16 have already qualified, leaving us with 48 players to qualify from 24 other '64-man bracket'.

i dont understand why people are so surprised when artosis doesnt make it in the tournament... i am by no means making this a bash-artosis post as i have nothing against the dude.... just never considered him more than a mediocre player... unless he has some accomplishment in sc2 i havent heard of?
he put out nice videos and interviews from gsl1 so hope he continues to do so with gsl2
No wonder Jinro lost. He was matched against Boxer. Well at least the ID is Boxer. Is Boxer using Boxer ID or Man...ID? Edit: OK it is Boxer. No wonder Jinro lost. He was up against Boxer

his replays he's been putting out are actually surprisingly impressive. his creep spreading, for instance, is immaculate, and he uses a lot of different builds in all 3 matchups
while i wouldnt call him mediocre, he's not quite at the level needed to compete in gsl2, especially as a zerg. im expecting to see even fewer zergs than last time.

BoxeR isn't Boxer the emperor. Lim Yo Hwan's two accounts are Manofoneway and Slayer.

o.0 how awkward would it be if those two faced each other.
Has there been any information released on how they will seeding previous winners/finalists? Didn't see any of the players that did well in the last GSL qualify.

They are not seeding anyone yet. So Rainbow and Cool needs to go through the qualifiers like everyone else.
Korea really needs more tournaments for SC2, so many excellent players not qualifying. Would love to see PL-like league so we could see more games from Liquid players.

i believe we will see it happen soon, just need to give it some time. With the attention of such a huge prize pool and some of the greatest BW Celebrities of all time making the switch, it's only a matter of time.

I was under this impression as well, but when I rewatched his Ro64 games against NexFreeSaga, he's actually a very strong mechanical player with great multitasking skills. The only thing that will keep him out of many future GSLs is practice time.
Too bad about Jinro and Haypro, but they'll have luck on their side sooner or later. Both are too strong to be left on the outside looking in for too much longer.
How many games does a player have to lose overall to be eliminated from the qualifiers? Is it just a series of best-of-threes?

You have to beat something like 4 or 5 players in best of 3's to qualify.
So it's a long journey. Losing even one of the best of 3's means you are out.

Thanks.
It might be prohibitive given the number of applicants, but it would be nice to see the qualifers expanded into round robin to account for strength of bracket. The organizers have almost certainly seeded the brackets to avoid having one big name eliminate another before the Ro64 even starts, but it's a shame that strong players have to sit out for a month due to a single Bo3.

I'm a bit worried, from what I've seen so far he hasn't been the powerhouse he once was. Imo he needs quite a bit more training...
[edit]
I don't understand the qualification process, can you explain further? Is it just one opponent after the other as soon as the previous winner moves on to the next person? It just doesn't seem like a fair way to adequatly find the best of the best...

This has been troubling me all day. It seems really counterproductive that the GSL is the only time koreans ever get to play actual games, when you see the huge smörgåsbord that the western players has to choose from.

purely coincidence. or purely lack of zerg players in general.. dont read into it, it doesnt mean anything at all, neither do any of the other 'lack of zerg' statistics that are so often seen. also pure chance that the 2 zerg who qualified happened to be 2 players very likely to make it very far into the tournament because of their high skill

I was / am expecting most UD players to play Protoss, hoping so anyhow.
have u ever played UD?
There might be some similarities but UD for example do not need to FE, ever in War 3 - if anyone needs to FE it's human or NE, then Orc the UD. UD can one base the shit out of people, also their buildings are 'summoned' like Protoss.
There's elements of all 3 SC races in War 3 and elements of War 3 races in SC2, to out and out say that UD = Zerg though is just wrong.

At one point there was 3 toss and 2 zerg qualified. It really is meaningless.

Yeah, i think the aggressive playstyle of terran and the harassment options allow for wc3 players to use their micro.
Its a shame to see moon not qualify, though this is not uncommon for moon. He failed to qualify for WCG several times even when he was considered unbeatable. When he did qualify he never got to the final either. Will look to see more from him later.
Best of luck to Idra, hope to see him in the RO8 at least.

Yes he did, grubby/moon (dream final) in like 08 I think it was.
People would love to watch streams of these qualifier games. You think they could just put tasteless and artosis up and have them pick whatever qualifying rounds they feel like casting so there's always one going? I'd put down my 20 to watch.
So WeMadeFox has BW and SC2 squads? Is Kespa ok with that? Is WeMade.Lyn the same WC3 orc pro? Where can I see the full list of SC2 players for WeMade?

Even a counter strike team. Idk. Yes he is, i loved him back in my wc3 days, so i'll root for him! I think just Moon and Lyn are playing for WeMade, (Nada contract with WeMade already finished).
So is the only to actually be able to watch these matches by paying for the season ticket? and if so when will the season tickets for season 2 be on sale?

For the 9000+th time, there are no broadcasts/streams of qualifiers. (Assuming that's what you were asking.) As for the ro64 to finals games, I assume it will be like last season (free LQ stream, limited vod access for non season ticket holders).
