Hello dear TL.net community. I saw a thread in the beta, when someone tried to gather all casters to do an little tournament against each other.. My friend "good old" DalaiLameR had the idea to revive this topic and influenced me on the groundrules:
- 16 Casters shall participate
- I like the IEM system, so i think its a nice idea to do an exact copy of it.
- There shall not be a fix schedule, but it would be nice to have every game as public as possible. So games have to be announced here at time!
- There is no pricemoney, we play for the ladys!
- Every caster has to cast themselves while playing! This will be very distracting, being silent is for wussies! So grab the caster gear and train hard xD
- I hope you will record your games and upload them on youtube, blip or whatever the caster uses.
I am ready for signups, but its tough to draw a line who is a caster and who is not. So for now this tournament lives with the community as every caster does:
After the groups are set in stone, I please djWHEAT to use his official IEM bowl to draw the group settings. <3. Afterwards we use the whole september to play our matches. I want to have an daily updated matchticker in the OP. Every participant has to have 1 game until september the 30th, two games until september the 7th and all three at september the 14th.
Please note, that groups are still not set for sure. I hope for more artwort of the fans <3

Rules: + Show Spoiler +1. TournamentThe tournament is a copy of the IEM system.  There will be 4 groups of 4 players each. I will create and upper and an lower, maybe a medium pool, but probably i just create groups to set some cool matches like you demand, to be sure that they will happen. The best 2 of each group advance. Then a single eleminstion bo5 round starts. We do not need to do bo7 finals I guess, but we could extend anything on demand. 2 MapsI will seed the first map, every other map is loosers choice. There can be custom maps for the first map, so feel free to post and send suggestions! (Note that we still want to play serious Starcraft 2). 2.1 Mappool:(2) Steppes of War. (2) Scrap Station, (2) Blistering Sands, (2) Xel'Naga Cavern, (4) Metalopolis, (4) Lost Temple, (4) Delta Quadrant 3. ScheduleThere is no schedule set so far and I do not want to pressure anyone. We won't split the games into groupdays and I do not want to have any match overlapping with another. So, when the groups are set, every caster gets a deadline to play his games and announce the time and space here. When someone can not find free time, he need to be DQed. (Well, lately we call it "QQed", right?) 4. CastingEvery caster casts himself on his stream and records the games to upload them afterwards on his Youtube, blip, whatever - Account. That means that you are talking all the time. The idea of 15 seconds silence = DQ is very strict, but please be a caster in game, otherwise we really need to replay games. 5. to be continued

What was the BigT vs BiggerT deal? I heard about it on one of DJwheat's weapon of choice casts in which chill made a plug for ChoboPeon's SCcenter show. Couldn't find what he was talking about tho and didn't want to go through 2 weeks of old news.

Forsti, I think you need to clarify something. Is the tournament for people, who usually cast other players' games (like Day9, etc.) or for people, who cast their own games while playing (Gretorp, Nony, and so on)?

We talking PSY the zerg player or PSY as in me? A lot of people confuse us cause of the similar spelling so make sure you specify Psy as in psyonic_reaver or PsY the zerg. =p
I've casted and played before. It's fun but it can be draining depending on how long the game goes. If more interesting people sign up then put them before me but I am interested in this.

the only problem i see is how you gonna get all the ppl on kinda one stream? cause making them all play on their own stream is kinda unpractical for the viewers who will have to switch streams every game and for every gamer/caster.
but thats more of a technical issue.

Nono, every caster shall cast on his stream. This shall not be a one day tournament, so you will find upcoming games here and/or in the TL.net calendar.

This will be great hopefully Day9 and Tasteless can make it, but then again, they're both busy
edit: I want to suggest to put some Community made maps to mappool (maybe iccup maps?) because players aren't good (except day9 and tasteless, but I doubt they'll make it) and map balance at plat-low diamond isn't big. I think we're all tired of same old maps+ it promotes map mapking

Yes, Vods will be on youtube, although I meant more directed to livestream viewers. Hopefully we can make the commentaries entertaining enough to warrant people watching the same game twice!
If you are looking for custom maps, Morrow has quite a few maps that I casted an event for, just some pro's playing friendly games on them.

Guess I'm not as cool as I thought. *cries* On my old channel for iccup I had a bunch of things I've casted saved in the archives, but it's all gone now with the channel change but I can assure you, I am a very active caster.

I'm a caster. Same as you. I was with ICCup...After all..I did cast the ITC, the first original one..and helped do all the planning for it, for a while. I also continued to cast with various other groups and people. Such as the KitCat tournament and the Sc2tourneys.com 8/8/10 Tournament #1 $50 for first. I also joined Ragequit Tv for their 48 hours for minerals and helped cast a bit there. I also use to join the brent and kenny show..I did the Minerva tournament and continue to do casts and I am currently working on 2 more tournaments for the community. So how am I a nobody or not a caster? It says in the op a caster known by the TL community...and I did post quiet a bit before you guys. However if you all asked nicely, I might be willing to not play so someone more well known can play. However, at the moment..I continue to be interested in this tournament and hope the tournament moderate will allow me to play. I can show what I have done, maybe its just not constant enough for your liking Ryan..I'm sorry. I am trying to improve that. I just got a new pc. So hopefully I can do commentary more often. ^^

Hey Ryan, its no problem at all. I just didn't want you to think I was just trying to over step my area or something. So I felt you deserved an explaination. I'm sorry if there were any misunderstandings. Oh goodness, I'd rather forget the minerva at this point. ^^ It was quiet a mess. I love the idea for the tournament; it sounds like a lot of fun! I think this should be extended to more casters. 24,28, or 32 could work with an IEM setup. Lots of great casters in it but there are still some good casters that aren't in it. I think the every match should be at least bo3 so that the casters who get roflstomped early on can still cast a good number of games. I also agree there should be a rule with how often a person must talk to not get disqualified while playing . I'm looking forward to this baby.

I think Psy deserve to be in this tournament ! He's a excellent player and as a caster, he helps his viewers to get better !

Maybe there should be a deadline for casters to accept and then a poll for the public to choose? It seems like that might help to clear up some of the issues with which casters get in.

no hurry, i get messages like every second and it was a really tough decision to exclude trump for now, which made me sad. i just forgot about you because of that. please do not be upset so fast. i'd love to have a 16 people tournament but its so tough to draw a line!

At this point, it's rather clear who would probably will this tournament with guys like tasteless, artosis, day9.
I'm just excited to get to know some more of the casters, play some competitive games, and give more back to the community! Can't wait.

Trump has 1400+ viewers on his stream at all times. More than pretty much all of the other stream viewers combined at any given time.

Can the outcome of the match somehow be influenced by the quality of cast? Say someone (just picking 2 names at random) like trump beats tasteless but trumps cast was boring and tasteless' cast was hilarious so the casting skills trump the in game outcome.

I think the point of the tournament is that the caster has to cast himself continuously while he himself is playing. This is multitasking extreme and what makes this tournament probably one of the best. We get to see the VODs after. Otherwise it might as well be any other tournament out there. This is a test of playing while casting

This is the best place for a 'Chill vs BigT' match I can imagine.

IMO Debo and Destiny should be invited. Both are consistent streamers / self commentators since beta with a good amount of viewers. They will also provide for some good comedy / entertainment.

I can stream and record at the same time, though I'm not as well known in the SC community as a lot of the other names I have seen in the list, I would still love to be a part of this tournament. I am easily more of a caster than a player, just ask any of the guys that were at the NE SC2 LAN last weekend.

Just set the in game resolution to 1920x1080 and tell your graphics card to not scale the image! Sure, you will get get black bars on the top and bottom, but it's what I have to do with my 16:10 Samsung because of the rendering in SC2. Would love to see you in the tournament.

Awesome idea. I'm sure a large part of the TL community wants to see the casters duke it out! I kinda wish there would be a prize pool to reward them, though, since playing and providing entertaining commentary is quite a bit of work, but you can't have everything. Maybe in the future~

The point of this is to involve all the casters that are contributing to the community. Day9 is definitely one of those people, whether or not he is considered a pro. To exclude the most popular caster because he is also extremely good at starcraft is kind of a slap in the face.
To assume he couldn't make the games he plays/casts interesting is silly. Pretty sure he could scale his play against certain opponents to make things interesting if he wanted to.

i got 24 signups. there will be a 8 ppl player grid and a 16 ppl castergrid. i check some accounts to be sure that all really strong players are in the playergrid, so we can see epic caster-selfcasting finals. the winners of both grid will have a "super bawl", making sure who has the super bawls.
I poke chill again, because he is actually my favorite caster in this lineup, but maybe the whole young sc2 scene.

I can't speak for the other new posters, but I'm not entirely new to the TL community. I've been using the site and lurking since March, and I probably visited occasionally when I played BW years ago too. I made an account because Sahara isn't as well known as other casters I like who are pretty much guaranteed to be in this.
I don't check all the boards obsessively, and so I'm glad Sahara did alert his viewers to this particular thread as I would have missed it before the deadline. In fact, I would say he would have done his viewers a disservice had he not made the announcement because a lot of us really enjoy his particular style of casting and feel it would add something different to this tourny.
EDIT: It should also be noted that Sahara didn't post a video to specifically tell all his viewers to vote for him here. It was a 15 second announcement (among a couple others) at the start of a cast.

I just don't think asking, verbally, during a commentary, for less than 10 seconds, for my viewers to come help me out (when the OP of the tourney explicitly says casters will be picked by if people request them...) is wrong or bitching or martyrdom or whatever other completely non-sensical words were chosen...I mean, I said "hey guys, this tourney looks really fun, and I'd love to be in it, stop by the thread and let them know if you wanna see me in it." That's it. How is that a big deal?

I don't understand where your anger is coming from exactly, unless I missed part of the thread.
I suggested SaharaDrac for this when the thread was first made because he is genuinely an entertaining caster. I didn't personally see any youtube video insisting that I do so.
Sahara has been producing content since the very beginning of beta in the exact same fashion as HD and Husky, except he provides commentating in a less accessible manner than HD and Husky (as he is geared more towards adults), and thus is less popular in terms of viewer volume. He has been part of the sc2 community since the start, whether he frequents TL or not.

As a matter of fact, SaharaDrac posted in this thread to sign up when the list was almost empty. He was completely and utterly ignored. When the tournament admin made a post about not wanting streamers, but rather casters, he explained that he was a caster.
If you've ever watched any of Sahara's commentaries, you'd know just by hearing him speak that arrogance is not present in his personality.
Sure, if expressing his desire to participate on youtube, in the face of being ignored by the tournament admin, leads to a bunch of new accounts being made by "Non-TLers" to show their support for him, it might be considered a bit silly.
However, I feel it is far worse to allow rampant elitism to prevent an excellent supporter of the starcraft 2 scene like Sahara from being given a warm welcome to Team Liquid, which is what's happened here.

I like Saharadrac. During beta before my invite, I watched all his casts.
Forsti gave his reasoning why he hadn't added ANYONE else to the lists, because he was figuring out details, like who will go in what division, and how many people were gonna compete.
There was only about 24 hours or less between Saharadrac signing up all of these people pouring in to 'vote'. Give Forsti time to figure stuff out, hes organizing/running this on his own time. That's the only part I thought was rude. Sorry if it came off as a personal attack.

First, you don't understand what martyrdom is in terms of forums. Martyrdom is suffering for your cause, ie. proclaiming you will be banned for your views. There's nothing wrong with withdrawing from an event because you don't like how it is going.
Secondly, Never_GG organized an event and then canceled it because she didn't like how someone talked to her. I haven't organized anything here, so you should easily be able to see the situations aren't the same.

What are you even talking about? I dont give a fuck about people "deserving" to be this tourney beacuse they've done alot work for minor tournies. It was stated that it should be casters known by the general TL public.. and most of these are not.
This isn't some best caster rewards 2010 event where all your hard work is rewarded. Its a tourney for TL.nets household caster to put on a good show for their fans..
I dunno why you make yourself look like some sort of victim just beacuse you as a new caster don't get the same attention as the veterans in the starcraft scene.. it is what it is. I'm just stating what would make it the most fun and exciting tourney for the general TL users..no offense to all you lesser known, hard working casters out there.

I thought this thing would be fun and simple to set up compared to other tournies???
The organiser sorts out who plays who and links the VODs (kinda simple really) while the casters do the rest basically (playing whilst casting n recording then uploading). Reward for the casters is self-promotion and a massive chance to get your name out there to those that dont know you. If casters dont want to do it/havnt got time etc then give their opponent a bye. I feel I might start losing interest in this soon if things arnt sorted.
Please Forsti.henning can you sort this out??? Get this thing moving please!!! This isnt gonna be another HDH2........ if you need help PM me or ask someone who has run a tournament before.

Why back in my day we just would have made the tournament bigger rather than trying to bump people out. The whole youtube rule is stupid imo seeing as how the Broodwar community has used a plethora of video delivery services, however since it stands it should be first come first server with no bumping.
Oh and to the newer youtube fans or youtube casters. Your commitment to the game and esports isn't questioned, it's just new. As such it's pretty BM to walk into someones "house" and talk about how their guests people don't want esports to grow especially when the house was built to do just that.
There is always someone ahead of you that has done more work, put in more effort, and interacted with the community more than you have. Like our Korean bretheren please show some humility.
That being said Gretorp is gonna bop some clowns ezpz cause talking and playing is his trademark (that and he's streets ahead of everyone else skill wise). He was doing what he does when most were piping music through their audio. Hell I even watched him hold a conversation with IdrA , the chat, and explain his gameplan while playing TvT on Destination.

i think its a great idea to promote some well created community maps along with this tournament. On the one hand it is an opportunity for some maps/mapper to get known along with feedback included on the other it allows some more stuff to talk about for the casters.

Awesome idea, BUT Desert Oasis should be in the map pool, simply because many casters praise it as a map with interesting matches and because of this they should "feel the pain" themselves. I am pretty sure they have thought about lots of funky ideas there too.

not really. knowing what to do and actually doing it are two different things. how do you explain professional sport commentators who possess excellent knowledge but doesnt have playing experience at the top level? it certainly helps if you have but its not a requirement.

Did you say read the SC2 strat forums 0.o ? I gave that section every chance in the world but if there is a weakest link in TL that is it. Most good players gave up on it forever ago aside from a random gem here and there.

I'm actually going to defend the last statement here by Sfydjklm. He said any reason "other" than laziness. So having a job, a wife, and a kid, are obviously not being lazy. If I spent every hour I was home and not sleeping, I'd have more than 2 hours a night to game and increase my skill dramatically. My my 3yr old would starve and I'd end up being divorced. And as a caster, I'd have to stop doing the commentary unless I start doing POV only.
Now on something another person mentioned. Could we get the brackets up? If I'm one of the ??? people, I would like to know for this weekend. Because the weekend after next (25/26th) I will be in Maine live-streaming a tournament on location and won't have time.

I personally hate to say this..but is there anymore info henning? I have 3 more sc 2 tournaments I gotta plan. 1 for this month and 2 for October..plus an event I gotta plan for the radio station, ontop of everything else I gotta do. I hate to say it, same as other casters and people have said..but we all do have lives...sooo..At this rate..many of us wont be able to do anything. I know for fact I cant even pretend to play today or tomorrow. So please...any update at all?
Btw - to those who want to say you have to be in Diamond to do commentary..I dare any one of you..to keep up with half of the people on the list..Even pretend to be involved in the community as them..pretend to have the knowledge as they do...Then do the commentary, help the community, answer questions and host tournaments...All ontop of actually having a life. As a matter of fact, he posted his desire to participate very early in this thread and was completely ignored.
He mentioned for half a second in one of his videos on youtube that he really wanted to participate and was hoping people could show their support for him here.
I suggested that he should participate in the first few pages of this thread because I genuinely find him to be an extremely entertaining commentator. I was not directed here by a youtube video. I am very disheartened to see him get the treatment he has been getting from the TL community. He is a very humble and funny guy, he just suffers from being committed to a starcraft site other than this one.

This is why I'm especially upset about the way this tournament organizer has handled this thread and this tourney. ( I am Sahara BTW.)
What you fail to see is the part of the OP, which Forsti edited, saying directly: "I haven't heard of everyone, so some casters will be chosen by user requests in this thread."
So I ask, in one video, one time, for under 15 seconds, for my fans to stop by and request me, since that is explicitly what the tournament organizer asked for. But now he decides to delete that part of his OP, and now I am getting a bad reputation with people I respect (such as you), in addition to getting snubbed for the tourney despite all the requests, for simply doing what the tournament organizer asked of us. There was no "sending of the legion", there was no evil plan, there was just me getting shit on and the shaft directly up my ass.
So yeah, I'm quite sad at this turn of events, I'm not out to cause chaos or burn bridges, this is the second event (the first being day9's countdown party) where miscommunication and unreasonable hate has tarnished my rep with a community I cherish deeply.

Asking for something in the OP and then blasting said caster when he complies with your request is not a good way to do things in my humble opinion. Saharadrac did nothing but bring attention to this tournament, which should be lauded, not condemned. I don't have any interest in being involved anymore. This sounded like fun but has become a bit of a disorganised dramafest.

what about forsti stepping back from the tournament and offering his place to sahara.
would be a gesture of good will and a nice way to burry this hate ( hate is a too strong word, but i think you know what i mean ) caused by miscommunication - this really bothers me ... in general - because of that, some shitstorms were started in the past

and @Sahara I missed your post in the spam and that window in which that was in the OP so I never saw that. So sorry about that. This whole thing hasnt been set up very well and if there arent reasonable time frames for each game I"m probably going to have to withdraw as well since I'm going to be leaving for one possibly two live events in the next several weeks on top of my normal schedule.

Well, I'm very glad I was allowed to participate. It was never my intention to create problems or tension, but I thank the organizer despite his previous mistakes for helping me out with this.

The problem is okay now he's in a group that no offense to Sahara he's probably going to get smashed in that's not very helpful and the tournament organizer is still in the tournament in a spot that would be better for Sahara plus the vast majority of TO's don't participate in their own tournaments as it causes problems. When I was made Super Admin of the Tournaments section on iCCup first thing I did was add a rule saying admins cannot play in their own tournaments.
The problem is still here and right now looking at the schedule I have 10 days not too bad for my first game and then. For the second game I have 7 days of which I'm going to be gone for possibly 3, casting for 2-3 so I have maybe... one day to play a game. I might have to withdraw at which point just give my spot to Sahara so he can be in a proper group.
edit: or a third solution possibly switch faze and sahara? As faze posted in the thread WELL after sahara did and he has a grand total of 4 videos? Im not sure how he qualifies as a caster.

No offense taken, all 3 are better players than me, though I'm up to about 1110 points in Diamond now, like rank 14-15ish in a tough US division. Regardless, they will probably smash me, though I could probably hold my own. Either way, I will play anyone and have fun doing it.

From what I understand, the streamers also play, but are separated from the normal casters because they're usually better and don't specifically cast tournaments (I'm mostly sure this is the situation, but don't quote me )

I usually cast with other people, at this point there's about 15 videos on Ragequit.TV with me casting. I most always cast live without VoD content to Livestream. In the past I've casted live games by myself on my own channel for HuK, MorroW, qxc, Sheth, and CauthonLuck among others. There are a ton of people who may "out qualify" me - but I've done my fair share of casting.
If you have any more questions about my "qualifications", I'd be happy to answer them.
If you want to switch me to the streamers bracket I won't complain. I need the practice anyways

This was a very nice idea but I am going to ask that I be removed now. I no longer have the time for this. I have a beauty pageant and other tournaments I must pay attention to.
