Why is incineration zone one of the listed maps to be used in the tournament...
What about xel naga caverns and delta quadrant?
Why?

I left incineration zone on the list cause it was a map that I miss from the Beta and I wanted to see if anyone else would choose to play on that map.

Xel Naga caverns, looks like I just over looked it. I'll add it to the list thanks for pointing that out.

Delta quadrant, was left out for more of personal reasons. I don't like how "guarded" the expansion is and I felt that would lead to longer turtle games, but if the public does want delta quadrant I will add it as well.

Thanks for pointing out Xel naga caverns though I appreciate it.

@Quake- just like Whiteshadow said, its not whether or not you'll get crushed, but its whether or not you have a fun time with others who enjoy playing the game also. and who knows maybe you'll be the underdog who pulls out some amazing victories. Its all up to you.

@CharlieMurphy- I play Zerg and I enjoy that map. I have found a few little tricks to it for Zerg and I enjoy it. during my time in beta I never really found a Terran who abused the map, but then again maybe I didn't play very creative Terran during beta. if enough people request its taken out I will do so.

@Whiteshadow- it's $75 for 1st and an extra $5 for every person over 7. We are not doing this for profit, but I have put in some of my own money for this (computer rentals, trophy, dog tags, cash prize, etc) I am just looking to get the money back that I spent. After the math, following that model will give me back a return. Now this being said if only 3 people show up all the prizes will still be as stated I will not lower them to make sure I get my money back, I will eat the loss.

Yeah I am still actively promoting, but any friends that you may know feel free to show them the thread and get their interest in it.

I actually have been in contact with GameStop and hopefully I can get them to allow me to post fliers in their store. I am also in contact with some other people outside TL.net, so we can hopefully expect a lot more as the tournament draws closer. I noticed the thread for the other AZ tourney has been open for about a month and they have about 12 attending so far, so I think 6 in just about a week is pretty good.

P.S.
I am picking up the trophy today after work, so I will be uploading images of it here in about 2 hours. I hope you all like it

I will be there along with 4 or 5 other people from work who play the game quite often, I will have them contact you with registration information...most are platinum or diamond players. Will you have ample space if we bring our own computer? My setup is a bit large compared to most lan center setups.

Why is there a $20 registration fee and only a $75 prize. Not to mention travel time and such.

Anyway.

Sign me up for now. Although if the prize doesn't go up significantly I won't be able to justify going out there.

to be quite honest, i have to agree with qxc. lol, maybe the custom dog-tags can disappear and pour more $$$ into the prize pool.

@Stranix, yes there is plenty of space for BYOC feel free if you prefer. I'll keep a look out for the messages from your friends.

@qxc & yourwhiteshadow, I have decided to change up the prize pool and how it will work. The first place prize will be $100 + $10 for every person over 10, so pot can get up to $320. 2nd place prize will be $50. and 3rd will remain the same. Trophy and dog tags will still be provided for winners. I will be editing the OP to show the changes. If tournament grows past the 32 player limit we will consider and see if we can increase the size. This of course would increase the prize pool.

let me know what you guys this of the changes

Is the registration still $20 if you bring your own computer?

Also, is this a Blizzard licensed event? (http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/374722123)

I'm sure the 20$ is standard, if you bring your own setup or not.

1. The rental fee
2. The prizes and prize money.

Having worked at a lan center before, just being on the computers is nothing. its the time and space you take up.

annnnnd if qxc is coming i may have to not have a life for the next week and a half and just play massive amounts of starcarft.

@Girlscoutcookie: all the information has been submitted for licensing. Yes, Foren.sick pretty much nailed it on the head for the price of BYOC, there is still the $20 fee, but if you feel more comfortable with your set up feel free to bring it. I will post specs of computers here over the weekend.

@TheComeback: I went a head and removed incineration zone from the map list. This should make some people happy

Ok for everyone that wanted to know the house PC specs at Cyberzone me and Plair E stopped by today and grabbed them, this is what you guys will be working with:

Processor: Intel Core 2 CPU 6420 @ 2.13 GHz
Ram: 2 G of Ram
Video Card: All are equipped with at least a GeForce 8800 and up
Keyboard: Standard Microsoft Brand
Mouse: Standard Microsoft laser mouse

Plenty of space for BYOC if these specs dont meet your standards, however I have personally played as well as Plair E on these comps several times and they run just fine.

Shout out to every one
were getting close to the tournament date and its getting more exciting as it gets closer!

So far we have 13 people registered to participate in the tournament (we have more attending, but do not want to participate). If you want to participate please be sure to get your spot reserved by filling out the registration info.

As it stands with the 13 people we have playing the 1st place prize consists of $130 cash prize, the TriStar Open 1st Place Trophy, and the custom engraved dog tag.

Remember the prize grows as attendance grows, so tell you friends about it, so we can all have a good time nerding out with SC!

And you should know that I checked your tournament page afterwards and it literally said NOTHING about changing race or the race you picked locking you in. You should have clarified. People in the forum post said they played multiple races. I understand locking in races but that was my first tourny and I was following your instructions to the letter.

Only hours away gentlemen. Gorillafunk and I will be at cyberzone 10am to start setup and we will be good to go by 1pm.

Feel free to come before and get some practice owner of CyberZone is giving all tournament players a $1/hr (not sure on rate if you brought your own comp)

We will have the stream set up on a nice flat screen tv. No projector/theater room for this tourney like the one last week, but it will be a nice setup.

Look forward to seeing everyone there in a few hours!

Okay, seems like a few people are going to be running late, so it probably wont start untill about 1:30 or so.

so far were getting a good turn out some of the local people have decided to play as well, so at this point we have 3 additional people who were not on the list.

I want to thank Jae down here at Cyberzone for being a gracious host and allowing us to use his facility and time.

PlairE and GorillaFunk, thanks for throwing an amazing tournament and inviting us to cast. it was really fun!

we apologize for gaps in the commentary and any mistakes in commentary....commentating 5-6 hours straight is quite the task (even husky/hd/day9) take breaks. also, big shout out to tesla, who was joining us after being up for the past 48 hours. GET SOME SLEEP TESLA!

PhiliBird/Psyonic: congrats on 1st and 2nd. the first four games were really EXTREMELY entertaining and VERY worthy of a showmatch. lookin forward to seeing you play in the future.

for the now it doesnt seem there is much going on besides the SCAR tournaments that are bi-monthly.

be cool and do it monthly! also should try to make it double elimination, that way people get their moneys worth

Yeah, I think from now on we'll do double elimination.

Gorilla and I gotta get on the ball for prizes for the next one if you guys want a monthly deal. we'll see what we can cook up.

We'll probably be screening GSL finals here in the auditorium at the school when those come around... more info when that comes up.

SCAR 2 is tentatively scheduled for the first Saturday in November. Those of you that didn't come missed out, as the attendees will tell you We are running every two months, as regardless of what people say they will ultimately burn out on events if we have them too often.

@athalus I understand that you are trying to spread word of your event, but I would appreciate it if you could keep the posts regarding your event in your thread. I have been respectful by not "advertising" in your thread and I'd like the same respect in return. In this thread I would like to keep the focus on making the future TriStar events better, much like you want your thread to be focused on your event.

thank you.
