More information about the IEM American Championship. For those who missed the announcement at Gamescom, New York Comic Con will host the American Championships. Here's the details:

Comic Con hosts American Championships

The 2010 New York City ComicCon event will be the host of the first ever IEM American Finals from October 8th to 10th with $59,600 in prizes to be given away for StarCraft 2, Counter-Strike, and Quake Live. Sponsoring the event will be none other than Intel and Razer.

This year's ComicCon will feature a stage and seating area for matches, so anyone attending can watch live action as some of the best gamers in the country go head to head. ESL TV will be providing coverage of the event with broadcasters to be announced for each game. They will also provide streaming video of the event for fans online so no one gets to miss out on the excitement.

The Intel Extreme Masters Group Stage is still underway, so the list of qualified players is still to be determined over the next few weeks. These players will include top gamers from their respective games, like the infamous Evil Geniuses and compLexity for Counter-Strike 1.6, the defending champion Rapha for Quake Live, and well known names like Qxc, IdrA, Silver, and HuK for StarCraft 2.

The New York City Comic Con attracted over 77,000 attendees in 2009, easily making it the second largest comic book and pop culture gathering in the country, and Crain's New York Business has ranked it as the second largest event in New York City.

If you are in the New York area and want to attend, check out ComicCon's website for ticket information.

There's enough prize money that if you make it you can pay for your trip. Plus you earn money online to help pay for the cost.

The TL tournament tracker says 8 players but it's actually 16, letting you know to fix.

ESL is doing huge stuff for sc2, don't understand why so much more attention seems to be on MLG atm.

In new york city?
Good luck to TL players!
That's a fat prize pool.

No Group Stage is 16 players and is all online. The top finisher in each group plus the winner of the 2nd vs 3rd place go to the LAN final in NY. 4 first place + 4 relegation winners = 8 players.

Huk can't play. Silver, Huk, qxc and Thisisjimmy have all qualified for the Group Stage so they are out of the next Cup on Sunday.

I have a Terran "ThisisJimmy" in my plat division. Wonder if this could be the same player since he is doing very well atm 40-13. He might need to lose to be promoted.

If they qualified for the IEM Group Stage already, they'll have plenty of opportunity to rack in the cash.

The Intel Extreme Masters (IEM ) is a global tournament made up of continental championships (America, Europe, Asia)

Germany is a country, so it has a national championship - the ESL Pro Series (EPS)

In general, the winners of the EPS go through to the IEM (as they will in CS), but obviously with the timing this season, there are only quick qualifiers for SC2

Well, as far as I know, both the IEM American Championship (all continental finals) and the IEM Global Challenge(s) offer the opportunity to qualify for the IEM Global Finals. At least that's what the video says.

it's always been a little bit terrible in that regard. the counter-strike community was not exactly known for its tact during gotfrag's heyday. but that's not their fault and the site did great things back then, so its awesome to see him still around.

I use to own and run GotFrag.com but it was bought by MLG couple of years ago. I worked for MLG where I started up their WoW tournament before I left. Now I'm running National ESL, the North & South American League for SC2 and other games.

Posted this on the other thread for the Cup qualifiers so I figured I post it here too....

You have to qualify for the Group Stage, 16 players. We will be looking at the situation once MLG announces their sign ups and we have our qualified players. We have a tight schedule to be ready for the American Championships but if there's a big issue we will look into it.

Also we announced our Group Stage when SC2 was released so we didn't know MLG would be doing SC2 that weekend.

Because MLG gets on TV sometimes. They are just more well known. ESL deserves it more though.

Updated thread with Cup #2 details. Sign ups have been going pretty crazy with new players being added. IdrA signed up and will look to get his spot in the next round. Remember you can sign up for ALL THREE CUPS. Your name will be taken out only if you secure a qualifying spot (place top 4).

These qualifiers are so confusing, I can never actually navigate the website to find out when the tournament (other than the one 2 weeks ago) takes place or how to sign up, or when future tournaments are.

Darpa: When you go to www.nationalesl.com, hover "Play Now" and select "Starcraft 2". The nav bar will list our ladders and events under the "1on1" menu item. "2on2" is coming soon

Can I ask when the group stage is? Because I'm pretty sure most of the 16 qualifiers are also attending MLG>

Main Group Stage
- $25 per map win

So, I'm guessing this will make people play the 3rd game in the case of 2-0?

Actually I was wrong, its $25 per map win but the loser can't win money. So really its $50 per match win.

I think this kind of sucks for QXC who I personally think is the strongest TvZ and TvP player in the group, but I feel like his TvT is worse than his other MUs. I'm a big qxc fan especially after his series against Machine at Green Forest LAN, he really showed how good of a multi-tasker he is, would be macro-ing and micro-ing 2 drops all at the same time so fast that I couldn't keep up (didn't help that he was purple and the screen was pretty dark).
I always try to shield slam face, just to make sure it doesnt work

These are the groups correct?

A
- IdrA [z]
- TT1 [P]
- Fenix [T]
- suggy [P]

B
- Huk [P]
- KiWiKaKi [P]
- Lastshadow [T]
- machine [Z]

C
- Silver [T]
- Qxc [T]
- thisisjimmy [T]
- Murder [T]

D
- Drewbie [T]
- painuser [T]
- Cauthonluck [T]
- Artosis [Z]

A - Idra and TTOne. Idra should have no trouble in my opinion. SUGGY and Fenix are great players but I think IdrA is just far too good and TTOne will make it in 2nd if he does well.
B - I'm hoping that HuK and Kiwikaki make it out of this one. Protoss bias though probably. Anyone can make it out of this group though in my opinion. This is the toughest one in my opinion.
C - Based on the TvT's I've seen of these guys I'm thinking Silver and MurdeR. QXC has never impressed me with his TvT. He seemed better at other match ups like someone else said. Still an insane player though and if he gets to top 8 he will probably be able to pull off wins and make top 4 or top 2.
D - LOL Artosis and 3 Terrans. I'm thinking CauthonLuck and Drewbie will win this group.

Can't wait to see these games

I'd like to suggest to perhaps add http://www.esl-world.net/masters/news/133384/ to the OP, and I also want to ask if all the games in the tourney will start at 20:00 CEST (Central European Summer Time) and will perhaps day9 be the caster again?

Someone should take the initiative to make a new thread for this. iCCup TV will be casting at least 1 match from each round of group play all day today and some tomorrow. I would make a new thread but I have to shower before casting. =D
