The other part of it is TL's forums doesn't enjoy a good reputation. They took down their forum rules and decide on a case by case basis what should and shouldn't be allowed, which has absolutely lead to issues with bad apples. I can think of several cases where frankly, moderators here should have been fired and banned but weren't. Now days it's pretty rare though but when you decide to say "screw the rules, it's my house and I'll make them up as I go along" then people stop taking you seriously, even when you exercise considerable restraint after an initial crazy period.
That combined with the other variables=the issue the OP mentions.
