If you are a hundred percent on top of your inject larvae, and you know when to expand or put down another hatchery, you will never be short of larvae. If you know how to balance your production cycles, you will come out way ahead as zerg.
Replay:
One Queen. Two bases. Nil saturation on both bases. Three hatcheries. Money skyrocketing before 10 minute mark under no pressure and you`re complaining about the macro mechanic? I didn't even watch the rest cause it was obvious that early on. You skimped on your larvae inject about 5 minutes in. Don't assume things are broken when you can't even do them properly.

No I did not play BW and yes I know when to build drones but I am not so smooth with it and I need practice. I know most things yes but ITS a different story to actually play... maybe u know that. Its hard to do 40 things on the same time as u need with zerg. Some of u gave informative answers some did not. So simply I did learn some.
And to say change race because I don't know the race too well is just plain stupid. I am an ok zerg player - a bit above average but i play very unstable. So I maybe was wrong about the drones but in the game I seemed soo weird. Now let's not be friends "Release the hate!!!!
EDIT: and yeah the game was not good play at all but I wanted to show only the issue.

You cannot say there's an issue if you're not even doing the solution to the problem (larvae injection) properly. There were so many mistakes in your play that it's impossible to just say this is the problem.
It's like saying pizza tastes bad when the one you ate had burnt crust. Does it taste bad? You can't say because you haven't tried it properly.

Anyway it's no doubt that they are hard to play, but also the nicest race to play imo. And I know zerg has good macro but is these games I played I was just chocked and still am. Lately is seems like having 2 hatch in 1st base is great :D if u have 40+ drones and build lots of lings and transition to ultra against T. 40 drones on one base is way too many. 30 on one base should be the absolute max saturation, and really any drone past 22 is giving you lower and lower return on investment. You shouldn't need 2 hatches on one base for macro with spawn larva. It sounds like you're missing some injections if what you say is true.

I just watched the first 10 minutes of your replay, and it looks like you created all these problems you're describing for yourself.
-Your build looked really wacky. Something like 17 hatch+pool+gas all at once. You should try pooling earlier and getting a queen out faster. -By the time your queen popped you had around 400 minerals and 3 larva doing nothing. For the period I watched you actually seemed to inject regularly, but you weren't using your larva? -You constantly supply blocked yourself between almost every overlord. -Even when you weren't supply blocked you frequently had multiple idle larva and 500/250+ minerals/gas.
I would suggest visiting liquipedia.net to hammer down a solid build-order you like, and after that you just need to practice your mechanics/macro.

The way zerg has produced units has been the same the entire time Starcraft has been around, it is not the issue zerg faces.
As Day9 pointed out today, the game is a month old today, if starcraft 2 was a human being they'd still be sleeping 20 hours a day and have a soft head. Instead of declaring you've found the reason zerg are underpowered, go play games and work on your timing/control/fundamentals.

1000minerals without any lava. At 400-500minerals, you should add a hatchery and a queen inside you own base(If you can defend 2nd then expand to 2nd). Now you have enough lavas to make a zillion lings and queens Hey queen is good tank with tranfusion man.
|
this is zerg's main advantage
yeah, it's not easy but it's way better than any other race's macro
|
imagine if protoss could train probes out of their gateways and zealots from their nexus
that would be imba, right?
that's zerg
there's nothing stopping you from continually building one drone at a time as soon as the next one finishes just like terran and protoss
being able to make a bunch at once whenever you can get away with it is better in every way

If I like my pizza crust burnt, is my opinion about pizza invalid? Because if I haven't tried pizza properly all this time I'm going to be rather disappointed.

This boils down to another mediocre player with a big ego thinking the game is broken becuase he isnt raping face in diamond anymore. Players get better the more you win its called matchmaking for a reason. Good players are suppose to pressure you and make you play out of your comfort zone. Welcome to Starcraft 2 baby. Now lets stop the zerg whine fest about having to be "superior" in talent to yield the same results as other races and move along. As for the drone versus scv/probe debate we can only make 1 at a time you can make alot more then that at a time if you so choose injected hatcheries rock

I think a good way to improve your situation without having to majorly change expand times/unit composition would be just to practice every 40-50 seconds forcing yourself to spawn larvae, then even if you dont use all of them they'll stack up.
More you practice that it will become auto and then when you get limited by resource/food count you'll know what to do next.
Plus i always find it sometimes helps to have 4 or 5 spare if i'm ahead incase of drops or other surprises

Why is this thread still open? Its pretty much exactly what Meldrath says.

I second zaaam's notion and move to strike lol

I haven't watched the replay but Queen injections are crucial. Practice enough where your hatcheries dont stop spawning larva FOR EVEN ONE SECOND. It takes some time to master, but once your exceptional at it you become a much more nasty zerg player.

I'm Going to be much nicer because I am a novice player and don't have the "game" to be cocky enough to harass you. If you have loads of minerals, and no larvae, make hatcheries. If you are low on gas, and already have 3 workers on all your current geysers, expand with those hatcheries.
That seems like it'd fix both your problems. Had you made one hatchery in your main base, a hatchery expo where 2 extractors would likely almost double your gas income, and added anywhere from 6-14 more larvae to work with, seems like your imbalances would just.. disappear.
Another thing. 1 queen but 2 hatcheries = a big nono. If you want more larvae AND a mineral dump: building queens for all of your hatcheries is a good idea. Because then you blow 150 minerals more per hatchery, and get all those extra larvae which turn into units and workers, which cost minerals, which dumps your minerals! Now you have the economy and the army!
If you are zerg, and you are playing this game right, you'll either have a bigger army than him, or a bigger economy than him. If you have a bigger army, you can pump out loads of drones at a time to equal out any economy difference and still have the huge army. If you have a huge economy, you can go ahead and pump out a crud load of units to form an army. If you have a weaker economy and a weaker army, he just simply outplayed you and you need to watch all of your macro to see what you did wrong.

On August 28 2010 10:44 Orion-TF wrote: Anyway it's no doubt that they are hard to play, .
I think that sums it up. From my experience(only 450 diamond) I've found zerg to be much more difficult to play because you do have economy vs army choices that T and P really don't have. Maybe you need to switch to protoss, you'll still have decent mobility(obviously not as much as Z) and you don't need to sacrifice units for workers nearly as much.
One thing ya kinda gotta understand also is that most great Z players generally run VERY thin defense in the early-mid stages of the game. I don't scout well enough personally to run a style like this, but if you watch any top-level Z player, they always look like they have less army than their opponent...at least until they've powered up main+expo, fend off an attack, then power-army and attack.
|
Biggest problem is movility, and making zerg more "user" friendly, creep+larva injection is a pain and the opening of the zerg is also a problem, its to vulnerable and way too easy to put pressure on better movility and optimizing something extremly important as production is imperative
