Hey all!
I was just trying to load the latest editions of the laddder maps (post patch) in order to familiarize myself with some of the changes (i was wondering how they merged the upgrades for terran together).
However, It seems I cannot upload a version of say-Derelict watcher past the 1.0 (launch version)
Any ideas? I've tried to manually look for updates and change dependencies..
Thanks!

There are a few misconceptions present in what you're trying to do. To begin with, melee maps don't have balance data imbued into them, the dependencies they use tell them what balance they're supposed to have as they're supposed to have it. Simply put, the balance and the maps are separate, opening a melee map to look at balance changes won't yield anything - the exception perhaps being a balance test map.
Also, when you upload a map yourself, it's treated as a new entity, and the first publishing will either be version 1.0 or 0.1. It really doesn't affect anything, and anything you publish will have current balance - but again, you won't find it in the map itself.
As for how the upgrades were "combined", they probably just deleted one, and modified the other to include the other upgrade's effects. As for the triggers that do this, I don't know shit, but otherwise I've shared what I know.
Hope this helps.

So how does one go about editing the data that was put in by a prior patch? For instance, Let's say I wanted to add damage to the siege tank or whatever. Would the discrepancies I use override them? Would they supplement those change I make?
Basically, how could I "add" to the recent changes?
Thanks for your time :D/

Yeah anything you change on your map should override whatever dependencies the map has (whether automatic or manual dependencies afaik.)
|
Changes that you make to your mod (aka dependency) take priority over default data. This means that when you import your mod into a map, it will override any default values used by other dependencies in the mod.
So for example: You created a new mod, and with this new mod you're using SwarmMulti.sc2mod as your dependency. Now you edit the Siege Tank's damage effect. Your mod will no longer use SwarmMulti.sc2mod's Siege Tank damage effect and use your value instead. When you import your mod as a dependency into a custom map, it will override the Siege Tank damage effect value already in the map (and any other dependency's data values).

it's pretty easy, just go into the data editor -> Upgrades -> [upgrade name] -> (basic) Upgrade Effects
and just add/subtract from there.
edit: this is after loading the standard melee mod, ofc. Or a ladder map which is using it.

Thanks!
I didn't think that my changes were supplemented by the dependencies, i always assumed they were overridden regradless.
many thanks!

so.. how is the op supose to understand wich is which ? sorry this brings me back to when i did threads such as this one instead of using the simple questions thread.. and got the same amount of varying responses ; while being ignored by people with good answers (this "presumably" to get posters to comply) sorry, nostalgia is a powerful agent
so, if i was answering in the simple questions' thread i would type: each blizz map has a data editor that should/can be in synch with the latest patch.. but that is not the case all the time
when you download a blizzard map, the map you will have is for a "visit" mode only until you change something in said map (no need to confuse op with mod/map since it is irrelevant here)
of course you cannot change a blizz map and replace the original on bnet (fun idea)
once you've change anything in said map .. you have to record it on your hard drive and this will become an "x" version that you can do what you want with (well some of what you want)
as for checking patches in the downloaded maps .. there is no such possibility available
why? because the map you are downloading is not the latest for sure
as with all of its ladder maps, the updating takes place after the patch .. at blizzard's leisure
the data actualy used in play on bnet is indeed carried by "dependencies" which come and change the data present in the data editor of the map to insure it is up to date
confused ? i'm not done yet though.. [at best, the reader sighs at this point]
one also needs to have a patched editor to insure the latest information (latest patch) to be featured in galaxy, and while it is done solely by blizz (nothing seems available to "update") ..there is no guarantee that this has been done on yours ..
if you really want to do all you can, go through "normal" complete patching in sc2 (which "should"update your editor) and then upload a map on bnet with your account, .. those are the bases for what you want
however, again: blizzard disclaimer: blizzard has to update its "in house dependencies" that supersede the data present in the map you downloaded from them, they cannot update the accessible data as often/quickly as they do the dependencies, since they do not NEED to do it.. not to mention they do not support the editor)
tldr: should really learn to appreciate reading
