We'll have another poll later during or after GSL.

I should have been more specific. It had MORE Day9 and less what I would call "filler" casters. Like personally I find HD a bit hard to listen to.

1. I loved the casters, and the mixing of the two casting teams, really nice to see Day[9] and HD side by side. 2. I like the fact that it was open because to me that is one the BEST opportunities for unknown players to really shine and make a name for themselves. 3. Compared to the IEM , the MLG organization and setup was much better quality overall, and I wanted to emphasize on the stream's excellent quality: free, visually pleasant to watch and above all, free of lag. I live in France which is really close to Germany but the IEM stream was kind of awful compared to MLG's.

And I see several people seeing MLG as more professional and less drawn out etc. I think it was the exact opposite. In MLG they always had problems getting players into games, so there were alot of awkward pauses... the casters never really knew what was going on, and the games they chose to cast always seemed pretty random. Overall IEM was more streamlined, and the coverage with the players was alot more interesting.

![]() MLG: Variety of casters, better crowd / atmosphere, socke vs drewbie, return of the toss and of course the first glimpse of the HuK pillows. all in all, both were great for SC2 and esports in general. edit: i forgot day9's troll face.

Then analyze the results deeply, theorize possibilities, make polls for the expectations etc etc. The hype grows and grows and grows. The semi-finals and finals of such events were way more exciting and memorable. IEM and MLG may have had better rosters, better prize pool, better stream quality, live audience, better commentary, even better games - but they are mass events, done very fast, as part of a bigger event machine, and it's not the same.King of the Beta? ![]() Between IEM and MLG, I vote IEM>MLG, because the upper/lower bracket system, used in MLG, is a bit annoying, and reduces the clarity of value throughout the event. However, I suspect MLG has been the most fun for the participants / visitors, who were there. If I was one of the players I would have enjoyed this kind of event probably more.

1. Videos were in regular Flash 2. Videos were made immediately available for those who didn't catch live casts 3. IEM announcer switched from talking English to shouting in German (gave me a laugh each time)

In terms of perks, IEM had Take which obviously made the event, it felt much more of a spectacle and an event in comparison to MLG, which just felt like another online tournament with no sense of interaction with players and the crowd. MLG's free stream was better, but IEM's high quality stream was worth their price easily and easily better/on par with the MLG "HD" stream. I disliked having to have random caster's at MLG, although at IEM it was a choice between high quality stream or Day[9], where I could pick my favorite commentator, at MLG I was forced to endure commentator's I personally don't like so much, and more so with bad observer work, at IEM most of the action was never missed whereas loads of action was missed at MLG, which is always frustrating as a spectator.

1. Time zones. 2. Games, IEM just had more fun games that I watched. That and watching 2 streams from them increased the chance of a good game by a lot. Basically I feel IEM lucked out and was better due to that. ^^

MLG: Much better detailed, longer running(a + for me), more FUN(Casters doing random shit \m/ ) more Drama and upsets(good players getting KO'ed) ect they both had their pros and cons i think, but overall i enjoyed IEM more, but that's not to say MLG wasn't a blast to watch

MLG was better in other aspects; better interviews, more shots of the players enviroment, better atmosphere (no pathetic rapper/kids jumping for T-shirts). For me watching the stream though the better quality games/casting matter the most.

For a variety of reasons, which I suppose I will list on the off chance that a tournament host ends up reading this thread. 1) The Casting IEM had Day[9] casting the entire event which is about as ideal as it gets. Also his co-caster for the event was moderately well spoken and had relevant things to say, but also was aware enough to let Day9 set the pace and take the lead casting role, as lets face it...its whats expected. The MLG caster shuffle was ok at first, but eventually the novelty wore of and I personally found myself disinterested in a lot of games HD/Husky casted. Don't get me wrong I think they are good guys and doing an amazing job for the community with their VODs and media, but just overall lack the depth and high level commentary required to cast these major events. ( sorry ![]() 2) The Games IEM had the stronger lineup and overall just more exciting games. Thats not really something that can be controlled, but its just how it worked out. Also the quality of casting contributes to this in indirect ways. 3) The Event IEM felt very big and exciting. There was great shots of the players, the stage, and the event. MLG focused heavily on the casters, lacked a real stage, and just overall had a "local lan" feel to it. 4) Coverage This is probably the only place MLG came out on top. Great quality free stream with great bandwidth and the option to even upgrade to HD. Very well done by MLG, props. Thats about it. Overall both events were great and very exciting to watch and im thankful for both events.

IEM has better games and casting imo things seemed smoother etc. MLG just had better quality streams which really helps i mean the stuttering on the IEM and poor quality hurts but nothing quite breaking and at the end of the day it's about the players and the casters not how good you can view them.
