A final note: I don't mean to offend anyone or diminish the hard work that obviously went into making this film, I just wanted to give my honest reaction to it. I think it's important to remember how blessed we are as a scene to even have things like this made so again, very grateful to the people involved.

I will say for me personally I enjoyed it, but it most definitely did not live up to the hype/expectations I had. I feel like if you aren't already heavily invested into SC2/Esports/TL you will find this documentary incredibly boring and confusing. I feel like it doesn't do a good job at explaining pretty much anything. Like others have said it's essentially a bunch of interviews cut together. Now for me, I found them interesting and entertaining for the most part but for anyone else who isn't as invested/interested in the scene I don't think this will be something they would want to watch. I guess if the goal of the documentary was to have the target audience be people who frequent Teamliquid, then that was accomplished. Although I hesitate to actually call it a documentary as it kinda didn't really document anything besides how/why the players joined TL. It feels like they're was so much they could cover. All the events they were at were completely ignored. Also there was a huge lack of information on who they were even interviewing. You would see DJ Wheat or Day 9 pop up but there wouldn't be any sort of text to remind the viewer who this was. Overall I was entertained I guess but it definitely left me still feeling kind of disappointed. This is very obviously a reaction to something you were expecting that wasn't fulfilled. This documentary is very obviously not about starcraft. Instead, it's about team liquid and the people that make the pro team, it's about the soul of the team, which is the players. If the documentary was supposed to be about starcraft and eSports, I'd wholeheartedly agree with you, but this is not the case.

No actually it isn't because he's just saying he expected it to be a documentary when really it was just a series of interviews.

I suggested we watch Liquid Rising tonight. I told her it was a documentary about SC2, one among a few that were being made, and she agreed. We both really liked it. We thought it started a little slow, but it picked up after about 15 minutes or so. She thought it was all really interesting, hearing about these different characters and how they approach this game I've been playing. An earlier poster said it didn't meet his expectations and it was just a series of interviews. I think you underestimate how much you already know about this team and these players, and how much that makes a lot of this old news for you. For someone like my wife who has never heard of TLO, all the stuff about him was really interesting and totally new. Documentaries are often like this--lots of interviews, learning about real people and what they do. I personally learned something new about every one of these guys. It was 90 minutes well spent. Final thought: I've been sort of gently nudging my wife to try out SC2 for two years and she never bit. But today, after the movie, we had the following exchange: Wife: Is it possible to create a free extra SC2 account? Like a trial account or something? One of these days, I need to just play it just in case it turns out I'm a mega gaming genius. It would be sad if I am and never knew it. Me: Sure. But you can just play with my account if you want, it's fine. What race will you play? Protoss. They're the prettiest.

I think the guy is less saying its supposed to be about esports as a whole and more saying that because the lack of actual explanation of events and esports, and lack of main points that the main stream audience could identify with, this documentary isn't really something that can be shown to and loved by a more mainstream audience. I for one was planning on showing this to friends and family who i could use an amazingly produced documantry to, in a sense legitimize sc2 as more then "just a game but this documentary seems to be more catered to people who already love liquid. Im not saying that it was bad or anything it was just a little different then i was (and i guess others) were wanting or expecting. As i already said in another post i loved the documentary and think it was a really well done documentary!

On the whole though II really enjoyed it. Victor speaks a lot of sense and it was great hearing what he had to say about each player and his philosophy in managing TL.
