Game 1: [Oops]Reach PvZ Oversky - EVER Forte
Player stats:
Reach: 24:28 PvZ
Oversky: 7:3 ZvP
The match commences with Oversky at 8 and Reach at 4. Reach starts his first pylon at his 2nd choke, the one below the ramp, and scouts north. But when he fails to find Oversky at 2, he sends a second probe out to the west, spotting Oversky's first ovie crawling towards 5.
Reach builds a gateway and then a forge at his choke, effectively blocking it. Oversky, meanwhile, starts a hatch at his nat followed by a pool. Reach gets his first zealot out and it heads for Oversky's base, while he also starts a pylon at Oversky's 2nd choke! Two cannons start to warp in, and OVersky is forced to rally all his drones in an attempt to stop the cannons. Just as the cannons finish, Oversky's lings arrive and the combined drone/ling focus on the cannons while being struck by zealots and a probe. Oversky barely manages to take down both cannons while losing all but 3 of his drones.
But the antics don't end there. Reach insists on trying to start cannons at Oversky's 2nd choke, and for several minutes the scuffle continues, with Reach repeatedly trying to warp new cannons while pumping 1 gate zeals, and Oversky stopping him time and again with zerglings. Eventually Reach gives up, as he expands to his nat.
Oversky shows a severe lack of drones at this point (he has about 10), and no longer has an expo advantage either. He starts massing many speedlings in the centre while teching to lair. Reach, meanwhile, is making 4 gate zeals and has started zealot speed as well. When it finishes, 7 speedzeals leave his base and head for Oversky's nat. Oversky does not try to stop him, but instead gathers all his lings and attacks Reach's well-defended choke. He loses a number of lings doing this while Reach loses only a few shield points.
Oversky's nat razed, Reach heads into his main. Oversky, with a sunken and a handful of lings for defence in his main, tries a second assault. This time Reach does not have zealots to fill the gaps between his buildings, and Oversky manages to overrun the choke and destroy Reach's sole gate-powering pylon with about 8 lings remaining. The lings take a poke at Reach's nat, but he has erected several cannons already and is safe from harm.
On the other side of the map, Reach decides to attack Oversky's main with around 8+ speedzeals and soon Oversky is left defenceless. With no hope left, Oversky GGs.
Reach > Oversky
Game 2: JulyZerg ZvT Midas - Ride of Valkyries
Player Stats:
JulyZerg: 18:13 ZvT
Midas: 4:4 TvZ
July gets his game on at 7, while Midas gets comfortable in his new SKT1 uniform on the right.
July sends his first ovie in the right direction (obviously) and starts a hatch at his nat. He also sends a drone to scout, but it is denied by a marine at Midas's ramp.
Midas starts to build a bunker at July's choke, and is momentarily stopped by July's drones. But then the observer shows 6 more SCVs and 2 marines coming to help, and forces July to run back to his main and cancel his nat. His opening spoiled, July starts amassing lings below his ramp and teching to lair. Eventually he storms the bunker and tears it down with speedlings. He continues towards Midas's ramp, but is stopped by marines behind SCVs. Moments later Midas's academy finishes, and soon he is moving across the map towards July's base. July has a hatch above his ramp and starts building sunkens there.
Midas arrives with about 6 rines and 4 bats, while July has ONlY ONE sunken finished and a second one near-completion, plus 2 hydras. Midas decides to play safe and retreats. Meanwhile, July managed to get 2 hydras out before Midas arrived, and now he pokes at Midas's nat with his lurkers, forcing him to move back up his ramp. July repositions his lurkers to catch Midas's returning attack force, but Midas anticipates it and spreads his infantry, scanning and killing one lurker while the other unburrows and runs away.
July continues to make lurker/ling off of one base, while Midas continues to make MMF. While Midas waits outside his nat, his MMF are overrun by a some lurkers and a large number of lings. But after the battle is over, July has lost most of his army while Midas has an even bigger force of M&M with tanks and vessels ready to move out. Midas moves across the high dirt in the middle as July evades him. While Midas approaches his nat, July tries a small counter at his nat. Midas starts to withdraw his troops, but soon the small force is eliminated and Midas resumes his advance. He sieges up below July's ramp and starts shelling the sunkens atop it. July runs down his ramp with the last of his lurker/ling in a desperate attempt to survive, but thanks to Midas's unit positioning, July loses everything whereas Midas loses just one tank. With his defeat at hand, July types out.
Midas > JulyZerg
Game 3: Iris[gm] TvZ [GsP]JJu - Luna the Final
Player Stats:
Iris: 3:2 TvZ
Jju: 12:10 ZvT
Mr. T starts at 1 and his adversary starts at 8.
Jju sends an overlord north and a drone east as Iris starts a rax at his ramp and scouts towards 10. Jju takes a quick look around with his Drone, then brings it back to mine before Iris's first marine emerges. Jju places a hatch at his nat followed by a spawning pool and gas.
With 2 rax above his ramp, Iris begins a CC in his main, preparing to expand. He also takes his gas. Jju puts up a sunken and starts his lair. Seeing that all is clear, Iris moves his rines to his 2nd choke and floats his new CC to his nat.
Jju's choice of tech is: hydra den and spire, one at his nat and the other in his main. Iris's small group of MMF moves out towards Jju's nat, but heads home just as they arrive. It is likely that Iris scanned Jju's spire and is preparing to defend against Jju's fresh mutalisks. Jju's 4 mutas fly around Iris's main, never choosing to fight, as he morphs lurkers near the middle of the map. But Iris has more than enough M&M to stop him from doing any damage, and Jju returns to his base.
As Iris continues to tech, Jju finishes an expansion at 11 which Iris soon finds with an SCV. Jju also morphs a queen's nest and techs to Hive, probably aiming for the powerful lurker/ling/defiler combo.
Iris walks back and forth outside his nat for some time, until he is finally ready to move out with a large gropu of M&M with tanks and a vessel. He encounters a large group of lurkers and with quick rine spreading he annihilates half of them while the rest must run for their lives.
Ignoring Jju's expo, Iris heads straight for his nat and starts to pound it with siege mode. Jju does his best to delay while waiting for Consume to finish. He also positions some units to the left of Iris's base, then advances with swarm into Iris's choke area. However, he cannot get far and only manages to raze a rax and kill some marines before his strike force is eliminated.
While this occurs, Iris, with 2 starports, attacks Jju's nat. Jju tries to stop him with swarm/ling, but firebats reduce them to embers. His lurkers start to burrow and he covers them with swarm as well, but Iris starts running up his ramp! Only to be turned away by more reinforcements, Iris turns back and decides to destroy 11 instead.
Jju has also expanded to 5 by now, but 3 rines and a medic overcome 2 sunkens and raze it. Soon, 11 falls as well, and Jju is left with only his main and nat. Jju has also completed an ultralisk cavern, but he does not have the resources to make much use of it. Iris now marches to Jju's nat and tears most of it up as Jju uses various units to try and stop him. Just as Jju is finally cleaning things up, Iris arrives with a large group of M&M + tank beneath a sci vessel canopy. Upon seeing this, Jju promptly gives up.
Iris > Jju
Game 4: stOrk[gm] PvZ YellOw - Neo Requiem
Player Stats:
Stork: 1:0 PvZ
Yellow: 19:14 ZvP
Yellow wishes "GoodLuck" at 12 and Stork returns the compliment at 6.
Yellow opts for a pool-gas build as Stork starts his pylon and 2 gateways in his main. Stork also scouts across the map, finding Yellow and unveiling his plan. Yellow uses his first lings to chase around Stork's probe at his nat, blocking the ramp to stop it from re-etnering his base. Stork amasses zealots and starts a secret hidden gateway near the back of his main. With about 8 zeals and a few probes, Storm moves out, giving Yellow an opportunity to sneak 6 speedlings into his main. However, 2 more zealots soon emerge and Yellow's lings must run back out.
Lucky for Yellow, he has started his 2nd hatch in his main rather than placing it at his nat. He morphs 3 sunkens to prepare for the assault. Stork does not hold back and attacks. Yellow tries to shield his sunkens with drones and thanks to some smart placement, he succeeds, though with the loss of a number of drones. At the same time, Yellow sends his speedlings back into Stork's main, killing several probes before Stork chases him back out again.
Stork's zealots look around Yellow's main, searching for a target. By doing so, he manages to see a spire in the works. However, he has only just started his cyber core and assimilator! Stork starts erecting cannons for defence, but after about 8 tries he only has one cannon to show for it, since Yellow's speedlings continue to run around his base and stop his cannons one after the other. Soon Yellow's first mutas arrive, but Stork has started making dragoons and Yellow's 1-base mutas cannot overwhelm him.
Yellow expands to his nat while Stork starts a pylon in front of his own. Yellow is still using muta/ling, and starts a couple of sunkens for defence. Stork starts 3 cannons of his own, followed by a nexus. He currently has a fairly big army of zeal/goon, much stronger than Yellow's current forces.
Yellow uses his growing muta flock to harass Stork, but Stork's goons prevent him from doing any real damage. With his nat finished, Stork starts on a citadel while continuing to produce goons.
After a couple of minutes of harassment and macro, we see some lurkers morhping at Yellow's nat. But Stork has already built a robotics facility. He also starts a templar archives and a stargate for sairs.
Though he has lurker tech, Yellow continues to produce mutalisks. His new form of harassment is very effective: picking off probes one by one from behind Stork's nat by flying in and out over and over. After doing this for a while, he drops 2 lurkers behind Stork's nat and uses his muta/lurker force to kill many probes and stop the mining at Stork's nat. But with the help of an observer and an HT with storm, Stork is able to reclaim his nat and starts a cannon to defend it.
Stork moves out into the centre with his large zeal/goon/HT army, and Yellow -- who has also expanded to the gas expo "behind" his nat -- starts morphing a large number of sunkens to defend. This prevents Stork from doing any damage, and Stork simply sits his units in the centre with no real purpose.
Stork expands to 3 and fortifies it with cannons and an archon. This is enough to stop Yellow's muta cloud, but soon Yellow drops it with lurker/ling and Stork's units run from the centre to try and save it. They arrive too late, and Stork loses the expo. He also loses his obs and so he cannot even clear away Yellow's units from 3.
After building up his army a little more, Stork decides to take action: he attacks Yellow's sunken/spore/lurker-defended nat with everything he's got. He manages to take down about 10 sunkens while Yellow continues to build more, and in the end Yellow manages to hold Stork back. Using his large mutalisk fleet, he eventually destroys Stork's archon and chases his goons back to his base.
While this has been happening, Yellow has dropped the lurker/ling left at 3 into Stork's main, killing a cannon and all of the probes that were mining there. Finally Stork and the observer notice this and Stork sends some units to deal with it.
After rebuilding much of his army, Stork goes to attack Yellow again. In the meantime, Stork's nat has run out leaving him with no mining bases, so he tries to recover his economy by starting an undefended nexus at 7 -- despite Yellow's mutalisks flying around. Perhaps Stork could feel the game slipping from his grasp, as Yellow was still mining from his "island" gas expo. And so, Stork decided to attack Yellow's reinforced nat again. Yellow defends with lurkers, lings, sunkens, and guardians, which defeat all of Stork's units.
Back at 7, Stork's nexus has warped in and he is mining again, but not for long: as he warps in a pylon, Yellow's mutas sweep in and destroy everything, including Stork's only chance to get back in the game. Thus Stork concedes the game.
Yellow > Stork
ODL R1 Group B: Winners' Final: JiHyun ZvP Pusan - Ride of Valkyries
Player Stats:
JiHyun: no OGN ZvP games
Pusan: 4:2 PvZ
Pusan plots at 4, JiHyun at 8. Pusan starts a pylon at his nat choke followed by a forge. JiHyun does a 12 hatch 11 pool build.
Things heat up as Pusan starts a pylon at JiHyun's choke as well. Pusan has 3 probes with him, and this forces JiHyun to bring all of his drones to try and kill the pylon and shoo the probes away. But Pusan, with his probe in JiHyun's base, sees JiHyun's reaction and counters by bringing an equal number of probes to reinforce! As 2 cannons warp in, drones and probes fight it out in a microwar. JiHyun comes out on top with 2 drones left vs Pusan's 1 probe, but these are JiHyun's ONLY remaining drones, while Pusan still has plenty mining at his main. Pusan's cannons finish just as JiHyun's lings arrive. The ling/drone combo focuses on one cannon, but only reduce it to 1/4 life before the lings are killed and the drones are forced to flee.
JiHyun takes a deep breath, and tries to get back in the game by mining through his other choke and sending a few lings out towards Pusan's base. However, Pusan already has a cannon up at his nat and a second warping in. 2 lings survive and make it into his main, but Pusan has 15+ probes and JiHyun is unable to do anything. Meanwhile, Pusan's probe is still alive in JiHyun's base, where it has already killed a (probably weakened) drone, leaving JiHyun with exactly one drone left!
JiHyun concedes to his opponent, who has yet to build his first gateway.
Pusan > JiHyun
