Tournament Roundup - Apr 1-14 2011
April 19th, 2011 03:39 GMT
Results for April 1 – April 14, 2011
Greetings and welcome to International Tournament Roundup! Sick of wading through countless threads, posts, and articles looking for recent SC2 tournament results? The TeamLiquid International Tournament Roundup is the one-stop shop for all of your tournament result needs, and it's coming to you twice each and every month.
Don't be fooled, the GSL is great, but there's a massive amount of talent outside of Korea. Foreign juggernauts are battling it out in epic games, and in epic tournaments, on a daily basis. After all, our boys have more than proven that they can compete.
Who's the current top dog outside of Korea?
Please note that if an event is not listed, it is likely because it either didn't make the prizemoney cutoff, didn't conclude within this period, or results were simply not properly recorded in public view by tournament administration. Thanks!

Total Prizemoney: ~$57,205 USD (+ Prizes!)
Top Dog There's a ton of powerhouses outside of Korea, but who's this edition's top dog? Let's take a look at which players have posted the most impressive results over the past 2 weeks.
Note: This isn't a prize-money or medals ranking, but instead based upon overall player performance.
+ Show Spoiler [Honorable Mentions] + White-Ra !! Although he only shows a 2nd place Dreamhack finish in this compilation, I think we can all agree that White-Ra deserves a mention for his performance at Dreamhack. The 'Beast from the East' went undefeated on his way to the final, and he managed to take the first two games off of the seemingly unbeatable MC before he rallied back. Despite this, White-Ra is the one of the VERY few players who has been able to make MC look like a mortal man. Minigun !! This player's name has been thrown around a lot lately, especially after taking down the 'Success Pays Invitational' a short while back, but his skill has really shown through these past couple weeks. The showmatch machine, Minigun took part in 3 showmatches, winning each and every one of them, taking down quality players CrunCher, ViBE, and Kyhol. Total Prizewinnings: ~$250 USD Nerchio !! Last edition's bronze medalist, Nerchio once again proved that he's a force to be reckoned with. Taking down a Gamecreds Cup, and just narrowly escaping the top slot in a Sennheiser Cup, a 4pl.de Cup, and a Competo Cup, this player barely missed out on retaking the 3rd place slot in this ranking. Total Prizewinnings: ~$285 USD
Third + Show Spoiler [Third] + ClouD !! Everyone's favorite cookie monster continues to show improved performance as of late. He stole a Sennheiser Cup, almost snatched a competitive Go4SC2 EU Cup, and was gloriously cheesed out of the finals of the massively overlooked Ultimate Gaming Championship. Total Prizewinnings: ~$1,745 USD
Runner-Up + Show Spoiler [Runner-Up] + Kas !! Having once again showed the most medals, Kas sits comfortably in our second slot. He continues to be the true king of online events, smashing through the Go4SC2 March final, the GCPL Individual tournament, and a GameCreds Cup. In addition to these dominating performances, he also placed 2nd in a Sennheiser Cup. Kas is certainly showing he's not a one-trick pony, and I have no doubt that we'll continue to see him up here in the next few editions. Total Prizewinnings: ~$1,355 USD
Top Dog + Show Spoiler [The Top Dog] +
Medal Podium
Note: Only players with multiple non-showmatch podium appearances are included.
Next Edition: Early-May 2011!

Awesome, love these posts.

Nice roundup, crazy how well Kas does every week. Cool to see Cloud up there too.
Also sick to see CES thing in there!
|
MC's race icon is T for the DH invitational, might want to smooth that out.
Really nice stuff!
|
Love these posts.
The only possible way to keep up with the huge amount of tournies.
|
how did i miss an $8k to the winner SEA tournament? Awesome and grats to Ace.

cannot agree with this more, It seems almost impossible with all the tournaments and leagues these days to keep up with anything but the biggest events, so its super helpful to see results from the weekly cups as well as tournaments with less publicity :D
|
Thanks again for the roundup. Extremely appreciated.
|
Thanks for these summaries. I don't have the time to keep track of all events and this helps keep me up to date on event outcomes.
|
Great to see that CES is up there! =D

I generally only post tournament winnings in the denomination they are issued, but I suppose I'll add this since it's a lesser known currency. I feel that everyone here should be familiar enough with USD and Euros so that I don't need add such things to those currencies.
|
I don't watch anything sc2 related outside of TSL so thank you for keeping me updated, these are great
|
Naniwa also won that large lan tournament in the UK. It had similar prize money to MLG. Seems like it isn't listed at all in this post.

*edit* My bad. This was played after the 14th. Might be interesting for the next Tournament roundup though. I guess you might miss it otherwise since it wasn't even listed on the TL Calendar
|
Kas is rocking the house, i hope he wins TSL^^ against MC in final, that would be awesome
|
The Gadget show Live finals were on the 17'th, so they should show up in the next one.

Was never broadcast live I believe. I believe there are replays floating about somewhere if you can manage to find the thread. Home court advantage is clearly meaningless to Ace.

You forgot to mention:
Kas won in the Ttesport-Final at 17th April 1337 € !!! This doubles his amount of money in this month...
greetz HQ
edit: ok i forgot this roundup counts only until 14th April ^^

seems like all big tournaments were won by protoss

MC not Top Dog with his Dreamhack performance? :o

Come on dude. I assume you're talking about the "Featured Events" where 4 out of 4 were won by protoss. But one of them was Ace vs a bunch of (relative) scrubs and another one was the invincible MC. Also noteworthy is that 2 out of 14 of the "Recurrent Cups" were won by Protoss.

Excellent write up, it's so nice to get an overview of who's winning what.
I wonder when the first time we don't see Kas mentioned somewhere in these articles will be hehe; hopefully this helps people who are only now being introduced to him via the TSL realise why Euro fans hold him in such high esteem ^^

Kas continues to do great, glad to see.

Craft Cup seems to no longer host tournaments at a prize-money level that meets the minimum for this post. It appears they only host $20 cups now.
Lancraft also fails to meet the minimum prize pool for a regional LAN. Additionally, it has no dedicated English coverage, (or any coverage) that I could find, to even confirm any results.
In short, refer to the italicized portion of the top of the post:
Please note that if an event is not listed, it is likely because it either didn't make the prizemoney cutoff, or results were simply not properly recorded in public view by tournament administration. Don't blame me, blame the event admins. I can't do their job for them. Thanks!

Widz, no. Outside of date range.

Ah, nevermind then. I thought the Tournament Roundup is suppose to cover all participants of tournaments outside of Korea.
|
Sweden is sick, Dreamhack just trow in money to sc2 KEEP ROLLING! Hopefully a non Korean can beat MC so we don't get all the money there ^^

Ha... all the recurrent cups that were won by zerg had a lack luster roster... so dont give us the "relative scrubs" comment then say but we didnt win the recurrent cups... there is a reason your race is winning everything and it won't be much longer after reviewing the recent projected changes from blizzard.

actually Nani went 24-0 before the finals (he was 26-2 overall and 4-2 and the finals, but finals was an extended series)
|
|
Kas is so sick. I really hope he is going to attend to more lan events in the future. Naniwa is obviously on a hard run.
|
Man i love these! Thank you so much as usual. No way you can keep up with all the tournaments without these posts.

I have to stop betting against Kas :|

Kas is beating the hell out of online tournaments.
Hope to see him in some LAN's too.
|
awesome, I really like the round ups =D
|
poor zerg .... in all the big tournaments only one zerg placed (idra) 7th and 4th
|
Rough two weeks for zergs in big tournaments, they're doing very well in weekly cups though :O
Edit: Actually they're dominating, wtf so many in top 2s.
|
$57k in prize money, helllooooo SC2.
|
glad to see DeathAngel doing well, he's really amazing
|
|
the result for "the V" showmatch (april 8th) and its description don't match, one of them is incorrect.
|
Is there somewhere, where you can see every players total tournament winnings overall?
|
It's amazing how Kas is always in Top 3 in this roundups!! It's amazing the amount of tournamnets that sometimes go un-checked and have the best games, I guess it's why this is for!!

I think you're confusing the verbage 'defends his title' with actually winning.

You don't need to defend yourself over everyone who criticizes something you say, its an internet forum, just learn to ignore people who do that

Thanks for the tip, but sorry I'm not okay with letting people think this post is a joke by missing things or being an unreliable source of information when it is not. =P

No idea why Attero wasnt invited to the NASL, he is an amazing toss player and has been since beta.

Wow, the protoss players are cleaning up sooo many tournaments!

Wasn't there some sort of 'issue/scandal/DQ' with the voting thing?.. or was that Avilo? Sorry for my ignorance about the situation, haha.
But yeah, he really tore it up. I like his play. I was gonna give him an honorable mention (along with hasu) but didn't want to end up highlighting too many players.

Dreamhack really pays well...my gosh.

i love these writeups. pure appreciation here <3<3

The Naniwa run in MLG was amazing!
I was also so hyped watching Dreamhack (top level production values!!!) especially when White-Ra was up 2-0 to MC. I love both players and regardless of the outcome that has to be my favorite final to date in SC2
