[VODs] Altitude TL SC2 Open #1
September 18th, 2010 08:46 GMT
The Altitude TL Open #1 is over. Thanks for playing and watching!
Results: + Show Spoiler [Show Results] +1st - SeleCT ($300) 2nd - Strelok ($100) 3rd/4th - Drafter ($50) 3rd/4th - Tarson ($50) Referee Notes: + Show Spoiler [Show] +- SeleCT vs Drafter Game 1 was disconnected. Referees reviewed the replay and determined that there was no decisive advantage and that there should be a replay. Thanks to PainUser for his help.
- Morrow DQ in Ro32, Mana receives default win. Players were delayed 90 minutes due to Morrow playing in the finals of ESL Viking Cup. Morrow was disappointed but understands our decision. He apologized and said it won't happen again.
Thanks: Mango, Carnac, Nyovne, Chobopeon, Snowdrift, and Xxio for refereeing, and R1CH for programming the tournament system. Thanks to Ragequit.tv, Wolf, Millenium_TV, decemberTV, and orb for streaming this event. You guys did a great job. Finally, thanks to Chill and djWHEAT for casting semis and finals -- it was three TvTs but the casts were very entertaining.

Altitude TL SC2 Open #1 FAQ
Who is playing in the tournament? Where is the bracket? The current registered player list is located here. Please note this is not a final list, as check in is not completed yet. The bracket will be released when check in completed.
Will replays be released? Replay pack will be released after the tournament concludes. You are free to cast the replays afterward, but please credit the event and link to TL in the description.
Will there be a live stream? It will be part live and part replay. Pre-approved TL Streamers will have the option of streaming matches live before the Ro16 if both players agree. If either player refuses, there will be no live stream for that match. From the Ro16 on, all matches will be cast through replays (distributed to the pre-approved streamers). The Semifinals and Finals will be cast from replays by Chill and djWHEAT.
Ro512 to Ro32 = Live casts by pre-approved streamers IF both players agree. Ro16 & Ro8 = Replay casts by pre-approved streamers. Semis & Finals = Official TL cast by Chill and djWHEAT.
Can I stream the TL Open #1 Live? If you would like to apply to cast the TL Open #1, please PM Hot_Bid. Approved streamers must have an embedded stream on TL and should be ready with a replay bar blocker. Since these pre-approved streamers will cast the Ro16 and Ro8 from replays, you do not need a EU account to cast our tournament, any realm (US, EU, SEA, ASIA) is acceptable. We will give priority to streamers who have casted previous events and are active in the TL community.
Why cast Ro16 through replays? We chose to do it this way because there is no method to 100% ensure player integrity when there is a live stream. Currently we cannot effectively delay the stream, and we do not have a way of checking if a player has it open in the background or is receiving messages from a friend watching.
But other tournaments cast live, can't you just trust the players? We have always felt that competitive fairness is the most important thing in events with money prizes. All TL events follow these guidelines, and while we understand a live stream is preferable, we will not compromise our fairness standards for a marginal increase in viewer excitement. In the future, if there is a way to delay the stream or ensure nobody cheats off it, then we will cast live.
No observers? Players can say "No" to streamers? We feel that many tournaments are burdened with multiple observers in game. This leads to competitive fairness issues, lag, and other logistical problems. Our goal is to make the tournament experience as enjoyable and smooth as possible for the players, while simultaneously maximizing entertainment for our users. All fans can watch the casts during the tournament or watch VODs and replays afterward.
Who are the referees and approved streamers? The full referee and streamer list will be available to players after check in. When the tournament is running, the streams will be on the sidebar. Each will be streaming a different match. As stated earlier, semis and finals will be casted from replays only by the official TL channel.
What if things go terribly wrong? We hope the TL SC2 Open #1 is an enjoyable and entertaining experience for both players and fans. However, if things don't go according to plan, we hope you guys understand that this is our first large scale open SC2 event. It is a learning process for us, and we reserve the right to modify rules or procedures to fit the circumstances.

Can't wait! This will be epic!
|
I have a question, must you play the race which with you registered, or can you change it?
|
Sounds like a really well thought out arrangement, with the casting from replays and clever usage of all the commentating potential of the community! Also great that there is such a large player base, since it will probably allow some new semi-pros to advance and get some recognition!
|
Going to be great event. Can't wait!
|
Thank god for casting from replays, hopefully a few select organizations take note. GL to all with euro accounts, waiting for the USA one.
|
HYPE
I'm so glad with TL's streaming policy in comparison to other tournaments. TL always looks out for the players and fairness first.
And thanks Altitude.

I would love to know as well. That way I know if I should just catch the content afterwards or if there is somebody I would want to watch live.

Tentatively, the Ro16 should start around 12:30, but we never know if the tournament will be delayed or not. Barring some sort of unforeseen disaster, the semis should start by 3:00 or 3:30 EDT (0400 KST).
|
Looking forward to this :D

Can't wait! Should be an awesome tourny to watch!

in the rules it says only "approved" obs can observe. does that mean my buddy can't observe me play? or does it mean that both players have to agree to the obs?

Both players can agree on an approved caster to broadcast, but there are no obs allowed in any game if they are not pre-approved casters.

Not really interested in any of those. Might tune in later for the quality of players after the first few rounds.
|
Yeah this is so cool! =D I am so happy that my fever just ended today
Strange to see so few Terrans in the tournament :o
|
this event should be great... just thought i'd note about the streaming.... if you use livestream there is an option to delay the stream for as long as you like meaning you could easily cast the games live instead of from replays using a 5 minute delay. I know its too late for this one, but in future it might be an option.
Good luck to everyone!

Good luck to everyone! Well, streamer could give info about what's opponent doing to other player... It is always possible ^^

Ever since Razer TSL Team liquid has been a role model in how to run tournaments. I hope this huge open tournament goes according to plans

Big ups on the strict rules on casting and observing. It's about time tourneys adopt these kinds of rules and it's great to see TL setting an exampe.
|
Lol, totally missed the check-in times because I was only paying attention to the stuff that was written on the white background. Maybe you guys should have put Check-in timer on top of TL site to remind people that such thing exist?
Oh well, shit happens, gl to those who actually checked-in, lol.
|
Hotbid, question about the Semi-final and Final games being casted from replays. Will you start casting the moment the first game is over from the replays or will you wait till all games are done for the series? Thanks
|
Awesome job with the participants and rules. Wish I there were more EG players but Nony, Huk, Kiwikaki! Protoss represent. (Like most posting above, loving the obs rules and the very clear disconnect rules -- burden isn't being placed on players to decide or not!)
|
Yeah, no obs in games. Players in this tourney will love TL forever for doing this. Really, TL is always ahead of other sites because they always put the game and the players first. Love you guys so muchhhh
|
If any caster could follow Tyler in any upcoming games I would be greatly pleased.

Nooo, ret. That was like one hit away from killing the cannon TWICE!

Replay casting is not a that bad thing, aside from those big breaks... + Show Spoiler +that is, if there was no match history and people wouldn't tell results everywhere t_t Still i hope for delayed "live" streams in future, so that we don't have those breaks etc.
|
a tournament planned right.
i hope i can post again after it is over and say, "a tournament done right." good luck TL!
|
Best ruleset on the scene! Too bad I hit Goody in round 2 lol.

Can anyone help me get a hold of qxc's replays?

The stream was really, really bad during the finals for me.. 10 seconds of stream, 3 seconds lag continually. One of the games was lagfree though, so I dunno.. too many viewers on one stream or something?
|
I had zero lag throughout the Djwheat/chill cast.. Excellent games.
|
Is there an ETA for the replays ?
|
Really well done Tournament starting with the rules , the bracket system, admins helping people in the chat and the stream it was just really well done. The only thing that sucked was me lossing first round but that is because of my inability to play ZvZ <.<. Well done TL looking forward to more stuff like this =)

Damn, that's a lot of Swedes
Great tournament overall and grats to the winner!

Yeah he was a top NE player in WC3/TFT before deciding he could make more money playing less competitive RTS games, I think he won every DOW competition in the world for like 3 years while the game was still being played in that scene.
It's good to see him playing blizzard RTS games again, always enjoyed his WC3 play.
|
Sigh, we are never going to hear the end of this. [Spoiler holds, well, spoilers on tourny ] + Show Spoiler +Up until now one of the only comebacks to people constantly bitching about Terran being OP was that if they are so OP why aren't they winning all the tournaments. Now we have a 3 placed Terran tourny.
|
I really liked orbs casting yesterday, ragetv was sadly not so entertaining.
|
At least scrubs can't argue the Terran-only semi's are a result of more Terran signing up than Z or P this time. Yet another tourney with mediocre T crowding the right half. That with the disappointment of seeing the 2 best Zerg knocked out by P cheese really reminds me why this game (in its current state) is an absolute joke.
|
i have a huge problem watching replays, i put them in the right folders and all, so i have no idea wtf is going on.
|
Lol at the top 4. )= Great games but I want to watch sc2 not terran2.. oO Crossing my fingers and hoping for the patch to do some good.
Also kudos to everyone working with organizing all the tournaments!
|
Great tourney, it was TvT semis and finals but there were some great games, and that was out of your power. Please consider Orb streaming, he's a very intelligent and fun caster. I definately didn't think he was that type of person, but he was amazing, IMO on the level with top casters in making things interesting, just a slightly smaller understanding of Zerg and Terran.
But I really really want to see more of him!

Do you not see them when you are in game? If you double click the replay file (from explorer), does the game not auto-load it?
Are these the first replays you have saved? If so, you might have to make a new folder in your replays folder called "Multiplayer" (without the ").
Hopefully this helps.

Was a nice tournament with great games and amazing organisation, awaiting the next :D
|
I had alot of fun in the first round, though I lost pretty hard. I also want to say that I watched Orb's stream for the remaining matches and it was good stuff, good insightfull breakdowns on battles.
|
cool tournament. i cant wait for the next one!

So I was just watching the VODs on the teamliquidnet youtube channel as linked in the OP, and suddenly they're all "removed by the user"? They were all there 10 minutes ago...

The VODs will be back up whenever I can get Youtube to stop causing massive audio desync on upload. :/

For some reason I've never been able to conveniently add videos from a user channel page into a watch queue and it's really nice to just be able to have the entire tournament queued up to play while doing other things.

VODs are back up and there will be a playlist when the last two games finish processing. Whoever invented FLV sucks. :>
There will be 3-11~ seconds of no audio at the start of every video; I shifted the audio to sync with the video instead of re-encoding the video itself. You aren't actually missing anything since those first 3-11~ seconds aren't supposed to be part of the video anyway.
