. Today i received a bulk order of beta keys from the Blizzard ESports Team - thanks guys! (You can thank them here too ). Yikes! How do we give away so many? Well after cleaning our pantaloons, we gathered around the round table and broke the keys down into a few categories.
Staff/Contributors [8 Keys] These are the people who make Teamliquid run every day. Mods, coders, graphics guys, writers, liquipedia admins. Countless hours of work and i think you would agree that the least we could do is hook them up with a golden ticket.
Veterans [10 Keys] There are some guys on this site who have been here from the beginning. What makes this community great isn't the games or threads, it's the people. While most of our veterans had keys from friends in the community (another great reason to stick around and build those connections!) we found a few who needed a helping hand. And a hand they received.
New Posters (Noobies!) [12 Keys] As big of a reputation as we have of being unwelcoming and elitist, we (staff) feel this is mostly unwarranted. We just like to build a community based on strong posting and great contribution. I posted a thread asking who needed a beta key and as suspected, many of our newer users flew out of their lurking shadows. Rather than giving these coveted keys to just anyone, i went through everyone's posting history to seek a few who stood out for what we consider to be important standards or posting and discussion. Putting in some effort to your posts always reaps benefits kind of like these. Congrats guys, see you on bnet

Nomination [10 Keys] We can't do everything, right? This is where you guys come in. We are looking for the the most worthy members, new or old who need a key. Eg vs Liquid` Show Match [5 Keys] As I'm sure you are all aware, we have a great show match coming up this weekend between legendary Team Liquid` and the American power house Evil Geniuses. During the broadcast, by our very own Sean "Day[9]" Plott, we will be giving about 5 beta keys. More details to come in the next couple days - stay tuned!
The R1CH/Hot_Bid Challenge [5 Keys] R1CH is a powerful wizard. He tried to explain his desire to find young budding apprentice wizards (tech gurus) in the community, but i got lost in a sea of technical terms....R1CH's first challenge of 5 has been posted (and solved). I don't even know where to begin with it, but if you have the skills then be sure to check it out . Hot_Bid stole a couple from the pile and is running a Tl Scavenger hunt - check the sc2 forum!

I have to say, even though I don't belong to the new posters here that did get a key, that I am sincerely impressed with how TL is handling this. That they even give out to the total newcomers, based on the little posts they made so far is impressing. you really made my day. I just came home from work and checked if i got a key from blizzard and nothing as always. So i go to my favorite website TL to check it out and see the news with 50 keys. I haven't expected myself on the list at all. Wow i am really really surprised ! Thank you guys
I wish I was new so I could a key too. Damn, I'm frustrated. I don't suppose anyone wants to nominate me so me and my two best friends can play a bit? I know it doesn't work that way. Did I already mention I'm frustrated?

I really don't know what to say. I've been waiting to play this game for 3 years and the opportunity comes at the most unexpected time. I couldn't be more grateful for this act of generosity.

And to everyone who still hasn't received a key, there are still so many opportunities to get your hands on the game. There are a number of contests on various forums and youtube channels devoted to starcraft 2. Contests that apply to sheer luck, your creativity and your ability to make interesting videos (if you have the technology). As well as a great deal of time before the game makes its release.
Because I just got lucky, and have been a hopeful for three years, I understand the frustration and near-agony of not being able to play the game after such a dreadful wait. I wish luck upon you all, and hope to see more of an open beta motif come along in a few weeks. There is still a ton of balance work and testing to be done.

Just signed up on the site. Been a reader here for a while, just never had a reason to post. I'm from the old cF, when we had some good BW and WCIII players, some of the older members of the Battle.net East people may remember cf. This is back when nohunters and x-17 were big and WCG was doing up BW big time.
Anyways, now its official, im no longer a TL stalker. Most likely I will be putting up video's on youtube on tutorials for build orders and eventually matchups once the game comes out. I did a video for Halo Wars (don't laugh, i was tired of BW and wanted to play an RTS of some kind) and i have some new equipment and software so I hope to do up the SC2 tutorials. I finally get to play with the guy who got me into starcraft (Jibba), I know hes more than deserving. Very cool, I'll have my keyless friends working on the remaining!
If r1ch needs some inspiration to come up with some technical challenge, I have some great Cryptography, Steganography, Programming and Internet exploits challenge myself.
The problem with these things is that the ratio of sweaty nerds to beta keys never goes below 20:1, so you can always rest assured that you probably won't get one, no matter what you do.
I nominate myself. There's not really a reason why I specifically should get the key, but as you say you want to "select 10 lucky winners", it seems like this key giveaway is based on random luck but meaningful contribution to this site. :-) [I'd of course still be very grateful!]

I'm trying to install the beta client tho, and it installed fine, but when i click the icon to load sc2, the updater comes up and attempts to install patch 8. but, when it finishes installing patch 8, it just loops back to installing the patch again... and it just sticks on this loop and never allows me to click the "play" button. I'm on windows XP SP3 and i really dont know what the problem is. I tried googling but no one else seems to be having the same problem...

Since I'm still new to TL, I guess the ones really deserves these beta keys are those veterans and loyal supporters of TL, gl getting the beta keys guys.
It is so cool of TL to do this, but to be honest it is a huge shame and somewhat painful for every sincere fan of Broodwar (at least to me it is) that this is even necessary. Blizzard should NOT have given keys to WOW or WC3 players that much, but focus on the Starcraft-fans instead. There is enough time for the press to write previews of the game or for WOW players to sell their keys if they hand them out a few weeks before release.
But all the guys really wishing to get a key should have gotten it already, before I got mine (pure luck) I was really pissed that so many noobs and people who dont give a damn already played since the beginning of the beta! At least TL is cleaning up the mess, Blizzard left. I got a feeling this will not be the last time.
I wonder what the last 3 challenges will be from r1ch and hotbid haha i rather like them even though i don't win but games are fun also if i do win i can give it to a friend who been wanting one i got plenty of those :D
Yeah, I actually never opted in for a beta key since I was still in school, but exams are going to be over in a short week and a half for me. So I guess I am saying that I would be interested as well if you are still looking to give them out.
That being said I have no special consideration to be given one, haha. Except that I am getting married in a couple months, and maybe if I get a key my fiance will be more supportive of me playing SC2 when we get married...
Congrats to all the posters who got keys, especially the vets. I remember the joy I had when I finally got my beta key, so I can imagine the emotions being experienced at this moment. Awesome.
You kidding, im always to late for those challanges, lol. After weeks searching on the internet for key contest im still stuck on a friends account, but that sucks cause he plays like 90% of the day lol.
Well I stand no chance of being nominated since I am new here but I will be an active member of the community in the years to come once I get SC2 beta and/or retail, right now I avoid too many community sites since the wait is torture haha.
I can't say I have done anything big to "deserve" a key, I would LOVE one though, I have been playing Blizzard games since my family first got a computer and Starcraft 1 was new.
I am obsessing over this game watching any and all casts / videos I can get my chubby little fingers on and would be eternally grateful for a chance at a key.
You know I'm grateful to Blizz for the 50 keys but that CVG or whatever website is planning on giving away 800 keys over the course of 8 days. Insane...

Oh god, I sure do hope I win. I've opted in for the beta for such a long time now, entered in every single key-contest to date and really struggled to play this game. I've even considered buying a beta-key but my current economy would allow me . I know this is a lost cause but if there by chance is a nice soul sitting on a extra key...
Wow. This site is awesome. I've been patiently waiting for a key through my BN account but nothing coming. Now that my hockey team has won our championship, I have nothing left to do except to play SC2. Hopefully, god willing, I'll get a key!
I like to nominate myself to a Starcraft 2 beta key. I remember back when I played the demo of Starcraft 1 and it was so cool. I tested Starcraft 2 a few days back at a friends computer and fell in love with it right away. Now I hope to be able to play even more!
I am after a key for a friend. He's a huge Starcraft fan (much bigger than i am) and was meant to pre-order the game with me so we could each get keys and play together. He has just found out that he will be moving to South Africa in a few weeks however and so did not pre-order the game.
I've had a look around the net and teamliquid seems like a really hardcore starcraft site. I figured this would be a good place to look around for a key for him. Can anyone give me any advice as to where i should look? You guys seem to have a bunch of threads giving keys out, but most of them require advanced knowledge of the original. I myself was a fan but not a hardcore one. My friend is way more into starcraft than i am.
p.s. The beta is awesome, i'm finding it a really fun game but it's extremely punishing (i'm quite new to hardcore online rts)
I'm trying to get a key for my friend, as well. He's a huge StarCraft fan, been since day 1 of SC 1, he's been trying to get a key for, well, years, but can't. I'd like to get one for myself as well, but if I can only get one, and give it to him. That'd make me (and him :D) so happy. He really wants it, and even though I do as well, I really think he deserves it. Thanks, I hope you can make him happy
