Update: Mana vs Castro will not be cast on Saturday. Kolll vs Morrow will be broadcast instead.
Saturday Casters: Dan "Artosis" Stemkoski and Nick "Tasteless" Plott + Show Spoiler [Show Caster Bios] +Dan "Artosis" Stemkoski was a top American Terran player before beginning his casting career by covering mainly non-Korean online tournaments like Ascension. After casting the Razer TSL in 2008, Artosis moved to Korea and now does interviews and coverage for IEG, the media giant that sponsors the eSTRO professional gaming team. Artosis joined Tasteless to cast Blizzcon 2008 and 2009, as well as the WCG Grand Final this year. Artosis is known as "The Wikipedia of StarCraft" for his comprehensive knowledge of the game.
Nick "Tasteless" Plott is regarded by many as the top English professional StarCraft commentator. Tasteless began his career with WCG USA Finals in 2005, and casted several other live events throughout the United States. In 2008, he became the first English-only caster to move to Korea, covering all seasons of GomTV's TG-Intel Classic and the WCG Grand Finals from 2005 to this year. Tasteless also casted many events for Blizzard, including their World Wide Invitational (since 2006) and Blizzcon (since 2007). Tasteless's nickname is the "Storm Observer" for his energy, humor, and enthusiasm.

Chill was Artosis' casting partner for the Razer TSL and also moderates TeamLiquid's Strategy Forum. Chill is known for his strategic knowledge, dry humor, and brutally honest comments.
Sean "Day[9]" Plott is Tasteless's younger brother and a top American Zerg player who was invited to represent the United States at the WCG Grand Final three times. He currently hosts the program Day[9] TV on TeamLiquid.net that analyzes recent professional Korean StarCraft matches. Day also casted for hundreds of TeamLiquiders at Blizzcon 2009, providing refreshing analysis and live commentary of the OSL Finals between Jaedong and YellOw[ArnC]. Day is known for his deep strategical analysis.

3 of the 4 best players in R3 aren't being streamed. That's disappointing.

What I really want to see is a cast featuring both Tasteless and Day9. I wouldn't care who's playing.

What do you have against Ret? And why are so many qualifiers not streamed?

Can't wait for these casts.

Why Bo5? I'm assuming that the first round of Ro16 is a Bo3?
seems weird to jump from a bo5 to a bo3 is all

Can't wait for some real nice casts of the games! Thx to all the comentators, and everyone else working on tsl, for putting all this effort into the event!
|
Oh wow! I can't wait to see Mondi vs Shaman! This will be one epic match-up! I love TSL! <3
|
TASTELESS!!! did he do the last ones too? i'm gonna go check, i didn't watch the last streaming ones and etc etc
should do Tasteless + Day[9] cast srsly
|
is this the first time tasteless has done a teamliquid casting??
|
NOoooooooooooooooooooo
I was hoping for plott brothers commentating together!! =[[[[[[[
oh well, i guess we'll see it eventually...
maybe not cause i think tasteless and artosis do it because they're both in korea? so its like easier to handle the schedule or something

|
Oh boy. I'm really stoked for this. TSL is so good!
|
|
It's like cristmas all over again...
|
Mondi vs Shaman was always interesting, and I have a feeling Shaman could take it this time.
|
I think double Plotts would be too much to handle o.O Nonetheless, Tastosis fighting!
|
I distinctly remember Tasteless making a tweet that named the casting duo "Artasteless" =O
"Artasteless" > "Tastosis"
|
|
My cup runneth overfill!
You guys are doing a stellar job. Rock on!
|
Man I'm stoked.
Day[9]/tasteless is a treat for the ears Thanks TL and Poker Strat!

No he didnt. Artosis and Chill did it and it was over one Match up only (Nony vs Idra).
|
hope i'll get to watch this live.
i love the games you picked.
can't wait to see Shaman, Mondragon, Infernal and CaStrO playing.

After watching casper vs dreiven . Im very excited to see casper vs fenix. Should be a very good set of games.
|
THIS is going to be very interesting mohaha
|
lol, Tastosis sounds like some kind of a testicle disease. Anyway, I really like the choice of games that are to be casted live, can't wait for Saturday to come!
|
|
|
excited for tasteless to be casting some TSL. This will be good
tasteless should enter the commentating contest for sh-ts and giggles
|
No Ret vs FlaF game
I know...zvz. But we are talking about Ret here :D .
|
Altough i won't lose no matter what game is casted i wonder why not the top ranked players are not streamed instead of these games?
Any official response?
Ty anyway!
|
Still waiting for epic Plott duo =(
|
2 great casters, chill and day9 will be great!
|
I wonder why people wish to see more of the "top ranked" players games being casted. Those games have a very good chance of being one-sided rapes... The casted games will be awesome. 1. No mirrors 2. equally skilled players for the most part
|
HYPE! TSL is friggin awesome! Can't wait!
|
Awesome. Great job to all the organisers and people behind the scenes at TSL putting up another great event.
|
You`re streaming Fenix vs Casper, and not streaming Ret vs FlaF or White-Ra vs CloseR or NonY vs HoRRoR ?
|
On January 11 2010 22:36 shiner wrote:You`re streaming Fenix vs Casper, and not streaming Ret vs FlaF or White-Ra vs CloseR or NonY vs HoRRoR ? i dont think you will be disappointed. the other matches (that u named) werent picked because they are expected to be one-sided/less interesting while fenix vs caspar is probably going to be a really exciting series with interesting games. i think many ppl are eager to see more of caspar and fenix is such a great pvt gamer. i actually hope caspar wins but realistically speaking its about 60%+ for fenix, but then again im right in about 1 out of 3 bets at anything lol

The answer goes with a question. Why does people like to see flash or jaedong or stork or bisu playing?
We enjoy the most high lvl players playing and raping anyone they can no matter if it's one two three or four sided

|
Seriously. This is way too cool. Stop it. Now.
Cheers TL!
|
It would have been great imo if tl had actively been engaged in outsourcing the games they weren't themselves going to cast.. for instance reserving a livestream for non-tl casters (willing to commit themselves to a fixed schedule) to cast the games.. I actually thought that the casting challenge was at least in part designed to fill this gap, but it doesn't seem to be the case. Reps are fun too I guess.. and not as time consuming. Anyways, I hope Ret doesn't lose. Also rooting for XiaOzI and el Nonyo. Looking forward to all the matches!
|
For everybody begging for a Plott brothers commentary: It's not going to happen in this TSL http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=105717
Those are the commentating teams and further on in the thread Nazgul confirmed they will stick to that. The explanation for this is probably so the casters can better adjust their commentary on their partners style thus resulting in a better overall commentary.
|
May the best players win!

Ty anyway! We decided against the potentially one-sided games with a favorite in them because at this point right before TSL explodes we would prefer to broadcast the better series and give the other players some more well deserved exposure. You will be pumped to see Nony and White-ra in TSL regardless of what they show next weekend, these other guys in the matches we picked are amazing as well and we are hoping this is an opportunity for them to show this to you.
|
|
very well done picking those matches !
|
Can't wait to see results for ret's games, I really think he might lose unless he has gotten better in zvz, but I wish he would move on since he is such a nice guy. And Castro has to lose otherwise his next streamed game might get paused for an hour since he will likely be at work
|

Thanks Nazgul.
As i tould you i would never miss even if it was my sister playing. But in the end you guys are right
Let's give others the chance to shine and maybe get some fans over there. Maybe even me :D
|
dang looking at that list, I see a lot of really good players who aren't even going to get into the ro16. one match with a lot of potential for disapointment is ret vs flaf, if ret loses (a possibility since its a mu he just learned) then we won't see him in ro16 at all, and flaf is also a really good player who was unfortunate enough to get matched with ret.
edit: it will be great to watch the other more unknown players too, it makes me wish i was better at the game so i could be in this ... maybe tsl3 :D
|
Looks like all the losers of the DC LAN have something to watch (at least for a bit).
|
Really looking forward to this.
|
Sen is gonna rape GhosTa
Cheering for ret, Sen, Nony, White Ra!!!
|
4 games I would have preferred to see casted over either of these: White-Ra vs Closer, Morrow vs Koll, Nony vs Horror, Sziky vs Tarson
oh well
|
i think they cant cast every game 538.
|
Go Ra, Nony! Gonna be amazing games :D
|
i LOVE the picks!
so much looking forward to this.

Damnnn, Artosis + Tasteless followed by Chill + Day9. Only thing better would be all 4 of them casting the same games.

Thats a stupid comment with no reason given.

cant figure out a reason not to stream ret and flaf.. Dont you guys want to know if he has improved his ZvZ especially against a person like flaf who has the greatest map control ever. I think it was nazgul wrote that the matchup with the least one-sided factor was chosen. Still it's going to be great to hear from the handsome nerds again.
Morrow is going to cheese the brain out of kolll

Go Morrow! I expect him to do some brilliant cheese in atleast one of the games!
|
in this tsl ONE GAME MUST BE CASTED BY TASTLESS AND DAY9 I WANT THE PLOT PWER ^^
|
saturday is gonna be an awesome day of starcraft yay
|
Ah, come on, your streaming castro, fenix and infernal but not Ret, white-ra (two clear favorites in this stage) or nony and kolll (everyone wants to know how they will perform)?
I am disappoint.

We had a long discussion about the pros and cons on staff irc and this is what we came up with, I think it's a very balanced list...
Also, every single subsequent match will be casted, so you'll get other chances
|
For those that have work on Saturday will it be possible to download a VOD of the cast or is simply replay heaven as the backup plan?
In either case looking forward to this, thanks TSL
|
Germany / USA16648 Posts
there will be VODs of course (on youtube/nevake and on the tracker)
|
I love how these R3 matchups turned out ... very few mirrors (as was noted earlier) and every game is multi-national!!
|
Super pumped for RO3 this weekend! Gonna be some nice matches.
|
Really nice to read, going to be a exciting round again ;D
|
noooo my birthday party is on saturday
|
Will the casted games be live or just replays?
|
Germany / USA16648 Posts
Always replays as stated numerous times. Live is simply not viable.
|
I'm fine with that as long as the results are kept secret. But not once it happened for players to tell the result to their friends, and then more people will know the results. Anyone could get them if he really wants to. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I heard.
|
Germany / USA16648 Posts
I don't remember any results being spoiled early during TSL 1, the same goes for NonY vs IdrA.
The results of qualifier 1 and 2 for this TSL were posted on TL as soon as they happened, so this was different. Results of qualifier R3 (today) and all following TSL matches will be kept secret and not be revealed before the broadcast. Players are not allowed to talk about it etc.

3 hours until it starts, rite?

I assume Morrow vs. Koll has replaced the other game by popular demand. What were you thinking lol? Mana and Castro will cheese each other like noobs, Morrow and Koll have real skill.

i hope all of hot_bid's brain cells right now are concentrated on; getting the games/players/casters all synchronized, and giving us that damn stream link ^_^;;;;;

The server seems to have a problem with the flood of users coming online. The stream should be delayed (well it already is) until they fix things!
We'll just have to wait for an official statement.
On a side note, they just bought me enough time to go run to the shop to get something to eat before the show starts! I just <3 TL delays so much! Thanks guys! :D

Ahhh good ol' TL.net's streamed events - always late and site always lagging because everyone F5's. This is the atmosphere i will always remember, it doesn't even make you stressed (though you want to watch it VERY badly )

I have Windows 7 and am experiencing no problems. I'm using the Google Chrome browser, and it appears to be running in Windows Media Player within the browser. Maybe make sure Windows Media player is set as the default to open video files?

uh voice quality is horrible for me.

mics are making the voices shatter, can they be fixed ?

windows 7 works just fine here.

my ears :<, really bad quality audio sadly
|
|
Someone IM artosis and tell him to back off of the mic -.-
|
the sound quality is quite bad for me also
hope they can fix it
|
ugh this microphone hurts my ears :-\
|
The precise problem with the audio is that the gain is too high.
|
Turn down the volume on the microphones a bit because the sound is distorded. It's really annoying.
Edit: can someone call them or sth?

11 gate? How does that benefit a P?

GosI[Terran] goes for one rax expand, which was recently more popular among progamers.
Is GosI[Terran] in the same clan as GosI[Flying] was? That would make his name Terran.

I thought a 110 push or so counters 2 base arbs pretty hard, since arbs are not done in time.. Go Infernal, pull a miracle!

Thats not even close to iNfeRnaL's A-Game. You have no clue. Nonetheless that goon move was genius and even Artosis and Tasteless didn't get why. First it was to get time and secondly it was to cut the VULTURE reinforcements that were so important. Terran couldn't send vultures to support his tanks and he lost his timing push/all tanks to massive amounts of speedlots because of that.
I shaked the whole game just because I know iNfeRnaL was training so hard, with all possible terrans, with me, I warmped up with him and he went through all his builds like a million times. I'm happy he won the first game, so he's a bit more confident now, I hope he playes his A game now. Could be a 3-0 then.
Sidenote: iNfeRnaL is ~90 - 95% win vs GosI[TerraN] in practice.
|
When you mentioned the whole thing about Tossgirl and the Marine with the screen names always having basic tier 1 units... i must disagree. Incontrol had his screen name listed as ToT)Ultralisk( on the tot site a while back.
Ultralisk a very high tech, tier 3, "invincible" unit

Destination just favors toss quite a bit. So many viable builds - fast carrier, fast arb, standard play, fast reaver, 12 nex etc - while T's just usally go for the flash variant or some cheese involving the area behind the nat. Infernal should really take this: he's better and the map is made for tosses.
EDIT: And yes, GG, nice play from GosI. That failed reaver really hurt Infernal.
|
I hope iNfeRnaL will switch to carrier when arbiters don't work out, because he's insanely good with carriers o.o!!

1) EMP was ready for arbiter 2) gosi[terran] left no opening for an effective use of the all ground army of infernal 3) gosi[terran] had an effective counterattack while carriers powered up
imo infernal was playing safe and waiting for gosi[terran] to make a big mistake, but no big mistake ever happened. if protoss plays like infernal just did on destination, or most any 2 player map, then a solid terran player has the advantage

Naruto please stop pretending practice matters. You are not superior by winning practice you are superior by winning the games that matter.

Andro game, 2-1 for GosI. INfernal, P, at 11 GosI, T, at 5
P scouts cross, does 12 nex at min only. T does supply, rax, no gas into CC and gas nat. No action yet and P reacting by taking gas only and doing faster tech. Not really cutting probes, gonna have sick econ if 3rd allowed online without interruption.

Andro will make it 2-2. I hope he wins Tornado-_- how did he choke in that game? it seems like the game went like he planned but it just didnt work. 1) EMP was ready for arbiter 2) gosi[terran] left no opening for an effective use of the all ground army of infernal 3) gosi[terran] had an effective counterattack while carriers powered up imo infernal was playing safe and waiting for gosi[terran] to make a big mistake, but no big mistake ever happened. if protoss plays like infernal just did on destination, or most any 2 player map, then a solid terran player has the advantage
Since I really respect you and you are really a good protoss I'll reply. I think he shouldn't burn so much units when switching to carriers, he did 6 port - carrier, that was overkill. Also he didn't have quiet enough high templars to make up for his ground army disadvantage.
Usually iNfeRnaL is a bit more concentrated on balancing his army unit wise. He knew if he burns so many units and builds 6 carriers at once, he can't match terrans ground army and did it anyway. Thats where he choked in my opinion. Trust me I know iNfeRnaL's A-Game and saw him playing In_Dove, Sea[Shield] and many other progamers, his A-Game is scary and thats not even close to his A-Game. Even in that Fighting Spirit game were he won and showed a few really good moves, it wasn't close to his A-Game and he will be really angry even if he wins 3-2. He went 10-4 or 11-4 vs Strelok yesterday and was so angry he lost 4 games.

Thats simply wrong Nazgul, but I won't argue with you since you just will ban me. You are superior if you are the better player, 1 series doesn't matter. Check his WCG results.. he lost to so many players that are a lot worse etc.
|
Arb tech incoming for infernal, which gets countered quite hard by mnm tank, since you don't have energy for stasis. Unless he gets DTs and manages to burn all of GosIs scanner energy. P 30 supply ahead and adding more gates though.

has infernal seen the marines and medics?

Now yes, he will try to get time and then hopefully rape.

Artosis calling it a build order win. I say that if Infernal gets enough speedzeals the rush CAN be countered with good goon micro.

Infernal's observer died. The anticipation from gosl[terran]'s coming mnm attack is high.

|
Deserved win, but still the worse player won.
|
GosI rolling over Infernal... Who's the "better player", again?
|
ffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!

this is just sad. the only entertaining play by gositerran in this series wins him the whole thing
|
So he decides to counter then stops at the middle and goes back meh still had food left for 5th game
|
GG
GosI[Terran] 3 - 1 Infernal
FUCK SHIT FUCK DAMN IT.
|
Sick games today. Really fun watching.
|
Gosl you got yourself a fan, sick push!
|
Fuck this shit-_- I bet even JianFei (who doesn't choke in tourneys) but has inferior PvT will win easily vs Terran-_-;;
Oh well, ggs.
|
|
terran won 3-!? :o well i knew juan is good like rly good infernal too, thats why i wanted to see this match
|
|
wow i was rooting for infernal but gositerran was a baller, that was one of the sexiest plays i've seen in this tournament so far
|
Fuck yeah, I love MnM strats vs Toss. Awesome game!
|
should have countered T's main and made pure DT imo
|
yea i thought he was gonna counter .... but he comes back prob going in terran base and sniping scans could be good but as always infernal failing in imporant games
|
Good play by GosI. Props for doing good builds when needed, but would've loved to see infernal go through. I like his style.

Ye right, if you know how passionate a player is and how much he puts into it, who the better player is and then he loses in such a fashion. Remember I'm his teammate and also tried to help as much as I can so I'm frustrated myself, not even mentioning how Pat feels now.

Infernal T-T He said tune into the recordings but where will they be? youtube? and gogo mondragon!

NiGoL check how iNfeRnaL loses in lots of tournaments to superior players who gets knocked out the round after. JianFei is probably Terrans next opponent. JF is really good PvT but not as good as iNfeRnaL if you ask me, but I'm sure he will win.

Honestly, this was soooooooooooooo fucking well played by Gosi Terran. I've been raping Terrans left and right in practice and Juan just played soooooo much better today than all of them did. He clearly was the better player today, I did not choke or anything, I did 2 decision making mistakes in the last two games and that's what did cost me the games. I do think the games were very entertaining and I want to thank everybody for cheering on me / following me in the TSL2. It was a pleasure for me to be a part of this sweet tournament and I sure do hope there will be a TSL3.
@Silv: We both know I'm good at practice but I told you often enough that I know its not practice that matters the most. He's definitely the better player because he's showing better results than I am. How can you even doubt that, he was 2nd in ASL and is now in the Ro16 of TSL while I am not.
All that is left for me to say at this point is - good luck to everybody in the Ro16, congratulations to Juan and GREAT WORK to all the admins, TSL is simply the best tournament ever.

Damnit I'm not sure I've ever been so sad about a player losing

So Awesome. Great matches. Thanks for the casts Tasteless / Artosis.. and TL. Had a big crowd crowded around our TV all day so into it.

I never said Terran is bad or anything. He's good, he's greedy, he risks stuff with that no gas expansion etc. Thats because iNfeRnaL is not really agressive. Try that no gas expansion vs a 10/15 gate without scouting.
I know you have to risk something to win, but still... I don't like that stuff.

yeah you are really right there, juan is a risky player but he mostly gets a win out of it, which means he probably knows what hes doing. Infernal should have played maybe more agressively there but well? Its not easy to be what do u call it "after smart" we say that in sweden lol :|

thats called preparation as you said they practice with eachother so gosi just used superior bo's against infernal. Prob infernal could go for some fast dt or smth at least one game but thats all to the player style.

Everybody understands frustration. But it's easy to be calm, collected, and nice when you win. The question is if you can do it during the bad times.
|
About that: I think playing a daring and innovative build to counter fast nexus, that is otherwise supposed to give protoss a freewin so easily that even Idra fell for it, deserves full credit. I don't think it was more risky than entering a game on Andromeda with iNfeRnaL iNfeRnaL is a great player, impressive both in play and attitude, and I would have really liked him to make top 16, but that build and Terrans decision making was just genius.

Maybe the problem was that infernal practiced too much against people like horror and strelok. Who most likely wont have tried to copy gosi terran's style to help infernal, but were also very focused on their own TSL matches. Just a wild guess though.

Naruto, you really look a bit immature when you have been posting the same things for the last 10 pages, followed by Infernal making a very classy post, and then you continue to whine on his behalf? Maybe you should give him the courtesy of telling us what he wants without you putting words in his mouth. We can all appreciate the hard work he put in and how disappointed he must be. Dwelling on that would be understandable if he posted it, but it's seems pretty out of place for a practice partner to be going on and on about it.

Think your not getting the support because you come off as a whiny kid, with your "my dad is stronger then your dad" arguments, with no backing other then hes good in practise. Guess what, you dont win money in practise, you dont get ranked in practise, so just get over it. Having a potential and being able to release your full potential are 2 different things.
The games were indeed great, and both parts played really really well. I especially enjoyed the game on Destination, was so close it was impossible to tell how it would turn out, and I guess I changed my mind like 10 times during that game. 2 great players, sucks that only 1 could advance
Hopefully we will se more of Infernal in TSL3

Could someone stream the replays here on TL.net plz? :| btw are the replays out yet?
|
|
Props all around:
-To all four players for playing interesting, exciting games -To both losers for being classy -To the TL admins, for choosing to broadcast these matches instead of the ones involving favorites -- as they predicted, the more even games were a blast to watch.
Two potential improvements:
-Was there something wrong with the mics? I'd say the casters were sitting too close to them, but I kinda suspect those two have this sorta thing down by now.
-The discussion of players/maps could probably be cut down a bit.
Overall, very psyched about tomorrow's casts and the upcoming RO16.

I don't think it was the mics, everything sounded fine to me from in Ventrilo. We'll try to figure that out for sure tho!

I'm obviously no sound guy -- didn't think transmission could add that sort of problem. Even with that, it seemed things went smoother (technically) than the Idra/Nony cast, so I'm psyched to see how professional things will look by the time the "real" TSL starts.

As for the mics sound it sounded like typical too low bitrate issue. Perhpas you by accident lowered the value of transmission somewhere? (I understand that the commentators audio went to video broadcast and was broadcasted from there, considering the delay. Then, commentators audio was mixed with game audio?) This may be not the reason, just saying that it sounds like that when the bitrate is very low.

Maybe I'm a dumbass but I think it's kind of hard to find the stream tbh. What's the link to the official TL stream?
One more thing, I understand it's only 2 days but the VOD:s from Saturdays commentary aren't uploaded. I think would be a good thing to get them out ASAP if you don't want people to loose interest. I don't mean to be rude at all, just saying.

I second Foucault on this one.

Agree with Foucault and War_Minister above me. I've spent the last 5 mins trawling the site for replay packs/vods of round 3 and still haven't found them. Managed to get the (btw awesome) games of Morrow vs Koll but that was because I searched youtube... the only link I could find on TL was the torrent.
Morrow vs Koll can be seen at: http://www.youtube.com/user/nevake#p/u/8/rMzQKriByEE
edit: Aha! The Saturday rep packs can be found here: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=110166 and the Sunday rep packs here: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=110217
I blundered into links to these posts by mistake and have discovered that they all live in the News section of the forum rather than the TSL section. I think it would be really helpful for people like me if there were just posts there pointing people in the right direction.Looking forward to knockout stages!

Eh?
The green bar links you to it if you click for results

Ah good point. I didn't notice that. But I thought the most obvious place to look was the TSL section of the forum and it's not there and there aren't really any links from there either.
edit: fixed here to there
