[N] is a Normal Mafia game, [T] is for Themed, [M] is for Mini, [I] for Invite only games, [W] for Newbie games, and [V] for a Ventrillo (or Teamspeak/skype) mafia. I estimate the times when games will be done based on the current progress and amount of people alive.

Limit of 3 games in the queue per game type (to avoid a laundry list of games in the queue).
You may only have 1 game in the queue. If your game is ongoing, you must wait until it is finished to put another game on the queue. There may be exceptions if you're hosting a newbie. There may also be exceptions just because. Honestly this rule isn't strictly enforced but is there as a courtesy so everyone can have a chance to host. Be mindful of other hosts.
A spot on the queue is considered "open" when a game on the queue gets posted (and not when I say it should be posted).

What is this thread?
This thread lists all the mafia games concurrently happening on TL, as well as games that will be starting once the current ones are finished. Up above, you will find the list of ongoing games, as well as the queue for upcoming games.

Why does this thread exist?
A lot of people want to play mafia, and a lot of people want to host. This system helps to keep mafia games flowing at a steady pace, while allowing everyone to get a chance at hosting. Our system is not perfect, and we realize that. If you have ideas on how to improve what we have (either by a small change or a total revamp) please do not hesitate to post in this thread or PM me.

How does this affect me as a host?
TL Mafia prides itself on having a variety of hosts who are willing to dedicate countless hours to ensuring that others have a fun experience. That said, hosting is not for everyone, and there are many long-time members who have never hosted. If you would like to become a host, you must first cohost a game (but preferably more). The best way to prove that you will be a good host for our community is by cohosting. Furthermore, you must have played in 5 games on TL Mafia.

Once the above criterion has been met, you must send me a PM summarizing why you should be allowed to host (along with your 5 games that you have played in). This is not a college essay and I'm not expecting anything detailed, just a paragraph or two explaining what you would bring to the table as a host.

All games must have a cohost! Having 2 people hosting a game ensures that the game is run on time and in a proper fashion. Rules about cohosting are as follows:

1) If you have never hosted a game on TL Mafia before you must start by cohosting with a trusted host before you may host your own game (see above for a further explanation). Hosting games on other forums or in real life do not qualify.

2) Once you have found a cohost, either PM me or post in the thread who your cohost is. I reserve the right to deny you a cohost.

About balancing your game:
All games must be balanced to ensure that people have fun while playing. Nothing sucks worse to lose a game only to find out your chance of winning was next to nil from the start. Please note that TL Mafia may be different from other forum mafia sites, and some setups that work on other sites may not be appropriate here. If you are hosting a game you must get the setup approved by one of the following members before starting your game:

Foolishness, Blazinghand, Onegu

People on this list may refuse to look at your game for whatever reason (i.e. they are too busy with life). This is a volunteer job so please be understanding.

For an initial idea about how balanced a setup is please consult the balance tester located in the thread here. Note that this tester only provides a guideline about the balance of your game and should not be used as the absolute rule.

If you are an experienced host or player you may 'petition' to include yourself on this list. You must have at least a few games of hosting experience and several games of playing experience to be considered to be on this list. Send me a PM if you wish to be on the list.

Rules about hosting:
Please consult this thread for rules about hosting. These rules are established to ensure that our mafia games are run in a fair manner. If you break these rules too many times I will deny you hosting privileges. If you played in a game recently where a host violated one of these rules or did some other misdeed, please PM me and let me know.

Newbie Games:
We run Newbie Games in the form of "Newbie Student Mafia". These are normal games with standard roles, [W][M][N], where roughly half the players may only have played in three games or less on TL Mafia. The other half of the players are open to any experienced player. The newer players are thus able to be guided by the experienced players and get a feel for how the games progress. In addition, every game will have coaches for both Mafia and Town to guide the newer players.

Previously, Newbie Games were only open to newbie players. However, many newer players weren't able to take full advantage of these games for a variety of reasons. Having a few experienced players in a game can provide a bedrock of play that helps newer players and deals with the "blind leading the blind" scenario that can happen at times. Furthermore, it was often difficult to fill up a game with entirely newer players.

The Newbie Student Game queue is managed by kitaman27 and Blazinghand. Both are in charge of finding hosts and ensuring that the Newbie Student Games are put up in a timely and orderly fashion. If you have questions about the Newbie Game queue or would like to host a Newbie Student Game, please send either of them a PM.

Normal Mini Games [M][N]
Similar to the Newbie Games queue, the Normal Mini [M][N] has its own separate queue. When a game fills up a new game is put up right away. Normal Mini games traditionally have the most demand and are more flexible in terms of hosting and playing.

How does this affect me as a player?
Check this thread to see what games are accepting signups and thus are available for you to join! You can also see the expected times for the current games to end. Inactivity is a problem for TL mafia games, so this will help you estimate when games are starting and ending. Don't play in a game if you know you can't commit!

What this thread is not:
1) This is not a discussion about if it's okay for people to be playing multiple games at once.
It's up to the hosts if they want to stop that from happening, not me. A host may deny you entry into their game if you are already playing in another. As a reminder, here is the general thought about it:

Most people are not okay with people playing multiple games. The main reason behind this is that the player will find one game more interesting than another and focus on that game and half ignore the other game. While that's to be expected, it's not fair to other players who are expecting you to be taking everything seriously.

2) This is also not a discussion about game set ups, and what constitutes a "normal" or "themed" mafia game. See the other threads for that. If you're unsure, talk to me and I'll talk to the appropriate parties to get it figured out.

*Note: If you take a normal setup and rename all the roles for flavor this is still a normal game.

Wow this seems like a lot of annoying work. Why have you decided to do this?
In the olden days of TL Mafia, games were hosted sporadically and there were sometimes long periods (months) without a mafia game. As more people started playing there became an abundance of players who wanted to host without the demand of players to fill up games. The queue was created to help regulate the hosts and ensure that games were put out in a timely fashion. An organized hosting system also ensures that hosts are dedicated and know what they are doing. I took up this job originally and have been doing it ever since. Regulating the hosts and the games is my way of contributing to this community since I am generally too busy to be playing mafia.

Hello my minions!

As your glorious new pencil pusher I also think it is a glorious idea to put some sort of deadline on each game signups especially while we are in the doldrums of signups.

I do not think this will be an issue with many of the games posted as they generally do fill up at a reasonable rate and its only cakes game that has fallen a bit flat lately. 30 days seems like a safe idea, the only thing that would have me hesitate in this regard would be newbie games which I do not feel need a 100% startup date as hosts can just fill it with normal players if they wish.

And some heavy theme/Large games might need longer than 30 days to fill depending on the size of the game they wish to do.

Any other thoughts would be welcome also.

For example Infatuation Mafia. I wonder if people realize they have to put about 10x more effort into the game than they do in a normal game (which is why the setup is originally for 5 people + Show Spoiler +

and still dumb

) so probably it's gonna end up being a lackluster game and cannot even be played properly on phone because too hard.

I personally don't mind people hosting / playing games that are "unplayable", i just don't see a point in like "6 town vs 4 mafia" game.

Like BH is still around for questions I know. We probably do need a few more volunteers to look at weirder setups, unless people want bastard games obviously.

Most mini-normals are probably ok I haven't really seen much off in the way they are doing things pretty standard so far.

As an aside I do not think infatuation is actually going to start its been up for going on 3 months? But yeah its a super hard game.

No it's not if you just put like 5 hrs / day effort (and then get fucked as town because noone else did....).
It's not hard if you just use all your life to play mafia, it's just beyond dumb because of what it requires for players to actually play the game.

I will also try to update this thread as often as I see a change that needs to be made and/or send out PMs when to start new games if they havent been posted. Ill PM Damdred whenever I do something just so it doesnt get double posted.

Also I think a regular normal is due sometime if someone wants to host it. The last large game we had was Dota 2 mafia and the last TL mafia game has been over a year.

I will add [M][T] Dota 2: Part 2 Mafia back to the queue since it wont start until after I am back from Thailand. Ill just put it after spellcaster.

@rayn since you seem to be insinuating that my game is unplayable and/or isn't balanced. Do realize that the current "Speed Dating Mafia" (QT-only gimmick) that you see is not the first-choice setup. It's a fallback that Rels and I selected as an alternative, smaller game that could still fit the theme.

The original setup (infatuation/lover mechanics) would have been balance tweaked according to number of players, and the plan was to run it past the balance team / experienced hosts not in the game before it started. However, based on the slow signups, it did not look like it could be feasibly done -- with too few players the game would end too quickly before the mechanics could properly kick in, so we opted to look for an alternative setup that still could be run.

Yes, the QT-only gimmick makes for different gameplay. Having to interact with every other player individually rather than collectively in thread might seem daunting, but I think it's surmountable by using a more chatty/conversational approach as opposed to trying to brute-force WoTs everywhere. I can understand if that's not your cup of tea, but that doesn't make it unbalanced.

@Damdred / @Onegu I'm just looking to at least run something so that the players who've been signed up haven't queued in vain. Will poll the game thread to see what people want.

I don't wanna post the Spellcaster game now. The reason being that it is, like the original Infatuation Mafia, a themed setup that needs a minimum of 15 players to be played and the more the better, perfect number being 20-22. But Infatuation didn't manage to get it, so I don't see why my game would. I guess we'll try later.

Infatuation is also a vastly different type of game also, its a unique setup that requires different things.

Palmars game had no problem filling (<3 Palmar). So I mean yeah maybe maybe not but just because one game doesn't fill does not mean another one will not

I think you should probably let go of the all vanilla setup and make the game 9vs3 in generic games btdt.
Especially in the setups with a cop i find 3 mislynches a little bit town favored with that many roles. JK+vigi is also fine with 12 ppl since shooting a townie doesn't lose town a lynch.

general guide to mafia i used this guide before my first game and i did pretty well until i got super lazy and bad

How to improve this is an analysis of an old game that was stickied because it contains a lot of good tips. I recommend reading this after you have a grasp of the game.

Imho just sign up for the next game or if you want to wait for a newbie game you can get a coach who will help guide your thought process.

Just be prepared for a high volume of posts. Some games aren't so bad but a lot of new players get overwhelmed when they wake up in the morning to 10 new pages of posts.

Note that this is a 2×, 9 persistent-player, micro, themed game with identical open setup.

So there are 2 games in total, sharing the same game thread and voting thread. Day phases last 3 days apiece.

Once the deadline is up, an --additional, in case a hammer (a majority is reached) has been achieved prior -- hour of twilight marks the transition period, i.e. the second game becoming the active one. When that hour runs out the former's silent Night phase and the latter's Day phase kick in.

is Anonymous SK Mafia, and I'd appreciate any reviewer notifying me via PM upon suspecting imbalance.

The voting thread will be located on omgus.net. Votes are posted anonymously (no need to sign in) along with a password. If the password matches one of those privately handed out by me to each player separately then the vote counts.

The SK controls two voting slots. Both will be added to votecounts, but only one of them counts for the lynch, and the other becomes the kill. The SK is not informed which voting slot is which; because they get randomized upon daystart.

2 mafia control four voting slots, two of which, if the passwords provided are correct, are integrated into votecounts but don't count for the lynch.

Each player is requested to provide 30 passwords anonymously during signup stage, and claim them via PM to me before the game can begin. The passwords provided will be slightly modified to distinguish them from the original, and distributed randomly among players. Roles will be chosen based on them, somehow, and will not be randomized.

One in two passwords from the list of passwords given out each dayphase to townies can potentially confirm them as innocent to the Cop, who decides each night whose marked passwords to obtain. Therefore Cops are handed out an extra list consisting of the marked passwords of their target in their original form, not their mod-altered form, along with the same amount of innocence-marked passwords exclusive to the SK.

The 1 time bulletproof SK receives the same list of innocence-marked passwords as the cop, but in its mod-altered form. Neither the Cop nor the SK know which is which (which are SK-exclusive and which are not), therefore the SK one-in-two-chance risks role exposure to the Cop's target if the SK uses any of them, not to mention too many.

If the Cop targets Mafia, the list will look normal, but since Mafia will receive different passwords than those on the cop's list they cannot use it.

Along with the list of passwords, a Mafiosi receives that of every other player (minus the partner's extra list for the pseudo voting slot and the special SK and Cop lists) and the list for the anonymous pseudo voting slot, as well, along with who provided them during signups. Based on this information, possibly along with anonymous in-thread posts, mafia can narrow down the search and deduce the identity of their partner in order to safely establish private communication.

I may anonymously post non-game-breaking hints as to how the scum role distribution may have come about, and provide the Cop and Scum with extra information in order to help weed out decoys, at my discretion.

Is there any interest in my hosting a Mini + Themed game.

High-level concept is as follows:
(1) Vanilla only

(2) Each day cycle split into 2 phases of 24hrs.
Phase 1 = Nominate 3 for lynch (including No-Lynch).
Phase 2 = Plurality Vote from Phase 1 pool

(3)Night cycle is 1 phase of 24hrs following standard NK mechanic

(4) Post minimum per PHASE is 1 game-relevant post (i.e. 1 post every 24hrs).

(5) Post maximum per PHASE is Total pages to be equal or less than # of remaining players / 3 (rounded down, and always greater than 2)
Therefore, if the game has 13 actives, the maximum PHASE page count is 13/3 = 4 (rounded down)
If the game is down to 8 activities, the maximum PHASE page count is 8/3 = 2 (rounded down)

The intent of this is to encourage quality posting by those that are extremely active, whilst, not flooding the game out of reach from those that prefer a more casual approach.

My hope is that points 1 to 5 will contribute as follows:
(i) Simplify setup complexity for first time host + first time concept.

(ii) Encouraged FOCUSED discussion across both halves of the day. Phase 1 requires scum intervention to secure lynch pool. Phase 2 requires intervention from players of any alignment, and gives town & mafia a reduced-guilt option to lynch questionables.

(iii) Discourage flooding for casuals; and encourage focused posting for actives.

A - I am happy to host the game immediately
B - I am happy to work out finer details with the community and/or co-hosts.

I generally don't like all vanilla games as you don't really have any town power to overcome and bussing has no consequences. Maybe do a single 1 shot blue role like Mafia for Busy People if you want to keep things simple.

With point 5, is that the limit for the entire game or each individual person?

Hmmm i would say 2 votea per person for phase 1 with caveat that you can pile both votes together. This gives some unpredictability without potential to completely derail in last 2 minutes with "triple" hammers.

Point 5 was intended per person. Like i think 2-4 pages ia reasonable to expect. 5+ in 24hrs is prob too much spam even if lots of drama happening.

Im ok with simple blue or each nominated person in phase 2 can mason with a person of their choice for the phase.

Scrap the mason as that could be abused.

I think if it is your first time hosting the game you might want to run a Normal setup. Rather than having 2 phases in the day and masons and stuff. Just do a normal with a few roles if you want, from my first experience that will be more than enough.

If you really want to do the 2 phase thing. I'd keep it simple with 2 players going into the lynch pool and no lynch always being the 3rd option.
With 3 players I can imagine trying to keep track of tiebreakers will be quite difficult.

With regards to maximum post counts, I would just make a message in the OP asking people to avoid spamming and giving a guideline of what you would expect ( number of pages or number of posts w/e ). You could also say you will give friendly warnings by PM if a player starts flooding. It's a bit of a pain to monitor tbh.

I have co-hosted before so am comfortable with the execution side of things.

I think key areas to address are:
(1) Trial a mechanic to encourage positive posting across different activity levels;; and,
(2) Maintain a modicum of balance with the mechanic.

Prior, 2 mechanics were referenced:
(1) Restricted lynch (i.e. nomination pool)
(2) Min/Max posting requirement.

In retrospect, I think the easiest solution for first run-through will be a standard game with the min/max posting trialed.
Therefore both areas are addressed (balance and new mechanic).

Thus, the game would look something like this:

Setup: Semi-Open,
A - 13p - 1 blue role,
B - 13p - 2 blue role,

Deadline: 22:59 GMT (+00:00). Days = 48 hours. Nights = 24 hours.
Activity Requirement:
Day Cycle:
Minimum: 3 game-relevant posts.
Maximum: 80 posts = 4 pages per day cycle (all posts inclusive of non game-relevant).
Night Cycle:
No min/max.

Penalty for not adhering (applies after first 24hrs of each Day cycle)
Failure to meet minimum requirement: Apply 1 vote for each missing post. (i.e. 0 posts = 3 votes, 2 posts = 1 vote).
Failure to meet maximum requirement: Apply 1 vote for first additional page. Apply 2 votes beyond.

Votes: Use ##vote No-Lynch. Self votes and unvotes are not counted.
Votes outside the vote thread will not be counted.

No replacements. If you can't be bothered to log onto TL and post once within 48 hours then don't sign up. Exceptions might be made for exceptional circumstances.

Lynch mechanics: Plurality. In the event of a tie, the person who reached the highest number of votes first is lynched.

Kill mechanics: Town can no-lynch. Mafia can no-kill. If there is a cycle of no-lynch/ no-kill then mafia must shoot first.

Game mechanics: Mafia do not know the setup.

Regarding Modkill
- 1 warning for not following game core rules (standard stuff, behaviour/non-vote/non-posting etc)
- Modkill after warning, or at host-discretion. Preference is to avoid.

Seems like the balancer(s) are rather busy. Everyone is.

However I’ve balanced games before so I’m not terribly worried. Once Pandain takes a look I’ll post the game.

Also I think a tiny bit crazy once in a while isn’t bad, especially when it’s a themed closed setup

e: I might not end up hosting anything June/July though because I have a bunch of travel at the end of June into mid July. Will see. Leaning toward not hosting ATM as I've received some interest but I think activity is low.

However I think you might remember playing in one of my games, in which occurred honestly probably the greatest two individual mafia performances (regardless of alignment) I've ever had the pleasure of watching essentially live.

This game: Wheel of Fortune I gave that a skim the other day and I was blown away again.

yeah, I'm aware, I'm just making that observation on the number of games/how long each of the last two ones took for sign ups & people missing confirmation PMs etc.

also as far as hosting goes I want to host a closed theme game, so I would like at least someone to sanity check the setup (though I think it's probably fine) and I'd essentially have to post the game this weekend and hope it fills up in a week otherwise I'll neglect my hosting duties around when the game is supposed to finish :p

This is a 2×, 9 persistent-player, micro, themed game with identical open setup. So there are 2 games in total, sharing the same game thread and voting thread. Day phases last 3 days apiece. 

Once the deadline is up, an --additional, in case a hammer (a majority is reached) has been achieved prior -- hour of twilight marks the transition period, i.e. the second game becoming the active one. When that hour runs out the former's silent Night phase and the latter's Day phase kick in.

You need to log into a voting smurf and snowball the votecount with every new addition. If the password incorporated into votes matches one of those privately handed out by me to each player separately then the vote counts.

Each player is requested to provide 30 passwords via PM to me before the game can begin. The passwords provided will be slightly modified to distinguish them from the original, and distributed randomly among players.

2 mafia control four voting slots, two of which don't count for the lynch. This means that along with the list of modified passwords for their real slot a Mafiosi receives modified passwords for one pseudo slot as well.

One in two passwords from the list of passwords given out each dayphase to townies can potentially confirm them as innocent to the Cop, who decides each night whose marked passwords to obtain.
Therefore Cops are handed out an extra list consisting of the marked passwords of their target along with the same amount of innocence-marked passwords exclusive to the SK, all in their original form, not their mod-altered form.

The 1-time-bulletproof SK controls two voting slots, too. Only one of them counts for the lynch, the other becomes the kill. Furthermore, the SK receives the same list of innocence-marked passwords as the cop, but in its mod-altered form.

Neither the Cop nor the SK know which innocence marked passwords are are SK-exclusive and which are not, therefore the SK one-in-two-chance risks role exposure to the Cop's target if the SK uses any of them, not to mention too many.

If the Cop targets Mafia, the list will look normal, however, Mafia receive different passwords than those on the cop's list,

Mafia also receive every living player's passwords for the dayphase (minus the partner's list for the pseudo voting slot and the special SK and Cop lists) along with who provided them during signups, in their original form.

The Basics:
1] You may have other directives that drive you, but aspiring to win should be secondary to none.
2] Upon having been lynched or killed, you are out of that sub-game only. Do not post in it anymore until the game is over, however you may post whatever in the game where you're still alive, including "Bah!" posts. Usually you do not talk about ongoing games but since this is part of a 2 game bundle, you may freely-save-for-votes discuss the other ongoing game.
3] Aspire to good sportsmanship. Please don't be a jerk to your fellow players. [spoiler=My subjective take] on personal attacks is that on the internet, especially in games about lynching, shooting and stabbing where you have to put in considerable effort just to participate let alone deliver an astute performance, obnoxious and poorly argued discrediting of intellectual investment is way more detrimental to enjoyment than derogatory names, insults and flaming. I wouldn't censor expression to shield impressionable people from taking vulgarity too personal but I refrain from imposing my way of seeing it. Heated discussion is fine, but vehement personal attacks, insults and flaming are not. If I feel that your behavior is preventing other players from enjoying the game, I reserve the right to force-replace, mod-kill or simply issue you a warning.
4] When someone gets hammered (a majority is reached) Twilight is in effect until the deadline of that dayphase (regardless of time of hammer the flips get announced then). Players may continue to talk during Twilight, including the player that has been lynched, only if they are alive in the other game.
5] Only the cop has to send in a check target. If e doesn't before the specified deadline, I will assume that they're not performing an action on that Night. If e knows e'll be unavailable during a Night phase, e may schedule check targets the preceding Day/Night phases if e so desires.
6] The SK is informed which voting-slot-exclusive passwords are announcing the kill.
7] Deadline extension requests can be sent via PM and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
8] You will be expected to post at least thrice every 72 hours. If you go more than 48 hours without posting 3 times, you will be prodded. If you receive a prod, you will have 24 hours to post in the game thread. If you do not respond to your prod within 24 hours, you will be replaced. Additionally, if I have to prod you more than two times, you will be replaced.

9] Votes should look like this: [insert password]##Vote: Philosophicarrion, using the bold tag, no nicknames. You shouldn't waste passwords on Unvotes.
