This is a post restricted mini normal with heavy flavour. Knowledge of Australian aboriginal culture is not required.
Ruleset: Change Log Spoilered, however please review the resolution period and more critically, my post restriction policies. 22 July - Clarified that players giving others posts should occur in the main thread, NOT the voting thread. 24 July - Clarified what qualifies as out-of-game activity that can/cannot be discussed.
+ Show Spoiler [Ruleset] +Introduction: Mafia is an educated guessing game of epic proportions. The objective of the game is to lynch or kill all mafia members before they outnumber the rest of the town. It's much like a game of poker because mafia members are also part of the town during the day and may manipulate the vote to their liking. If the mafia at any time outnumber or equal the townspeople, they win. The town's goal is to lynch all the members of the mafia. The game is typically very active, so the thread will get big quickly. However, it is essential to read the thread to play the game. If you do not have the time or patience to read the whole thread, do not play. I will not compensate for ignorance.
Rules: Cheating:Cheating includes (but is not limited to): 1. Posting after death. You may have one polite goodbye post, but it may not contain any potentially game-changing information. 2. Ruining the game by doing something like hand out your mafia's member list to the town. 3. Logging on to someone else's account to get their role or looking over someone's shoulder to get their role. 4. Comparing role PM times to determine roles. 5. Posting screenshots of your inbox. 6. Posting or sharing any PM you receive from a host. 7. Getting yourself modkilled to help your team. Your non-majority-decided death may not be used as a bargaining chip. 8. Signing up more than once using smurf accounts. 9. Betting items outside of the game in exchange for in-game benefits. 10. Sharing accounts with other players unless cleared by the host in advance. Otherwise, only you may post on your account. Cheating is not tolerated here. The punishment will be severe.Posting: Mod Font: This is mod font. It is reserved for moderators. Please do not use it.Question Font: This is question font. You may use this font to ask the moderators anything BEFORE the game. Anything asked DURING the game will be ignored.Activity:
You must post in this thread TWICE per day/night cycle and vote every day while you are alive. Failure to do so will result in a warning; a second offence will result in a modkill. Smurfs/Hydras:I will allow smurfing. Please send me a PM with who you are playing as. Hydras will not be permitted. Post Restriction Rules:This game is post-restricted with a limit of 80 posts (4 pages of filter) per player per day/night cycle. Players are permitted to sacrifice up to 10 of their own posts to other players by typing ##give X posts to (player) in the main game thread ( not the voting thread). Moderators will be tracking players' aggregate totals and if you are found to be exceeding your limit, you will receive a warning. Posts in the voting thread will not count towards your limit. Posting after your warning AND beyond your aggregate limit will result in a modkill. If you are at your limit you can still vote or change your vote in the voting thread without penalty. Please keep track of your limits. Rules for spam are unchanged. Spam is not tolerated, nor is any off-topic material. Do not discuss Proleague here. Do not talk about Starcraft II here. Play Mafia here. This also means you should condense your posts when possible. 15 one-liners in 30 minutes is unacceptable. Encryption:
Don't do it. Editing:
Editing is not allowed for any reason. Editing will result in a warning. If we discover you to have changed any content whatsoever, you will be modkilled. This is the one part of the site where it is okay to be double posting, even triple-posting. While I ask for everybody to post as concisely as possible, post again using the acronym (EBWOP: Edit by way of posting) if you want to clarify/correct something you just posted. Inappropriate posts:
If you want to post something insulting or inappropriate and know the TL mods would have a problem with it elsewhere, don't post it here. If you do, a host will warn you or modkill you and request that you be banned from future games. The hosts have the final say on what is inappropriate. If you do not like how someone is talking to you, please PM a host, Foolishness or GMarshal before involving the TL staff. If you are unsatisfied with how the situation is resolved, then you can appeal to the TL staff normally. Reporting posts:
The report button is a nice feature for regular TL, but not for this forum. We prefer to deal with things in house if possible to avoid confusion among the TL staff. If you have a problem with how someone is posting, talk to the host, co-host, or GMarshal before using your report button. Please do not use your report button for anything other than inappropriate posts which you feel are not being dealt with adequately. Ban discussions:
Please wait until this game is over to talk about modkills and bans resulting from this game. Play to win.
This means you play your best to help your team win while you are alive and in the game. However, this does not mean that you should try to win by being a jerk to the other players so they all want to quit playing. This also means that you cannot leave the game without a good reason without a ban. These situations will be dealt with on a case by case basis. PM me or the co-host if you need to leave the game. You have been warned.Voting rules: This game uses plurality lynch. The player with most votes at deadline will be lynched. 1. Voting is done in the voting thread. The voting thread is linked in my important posts spoiler. Please keep votes there, and only vote there. Do not PM me your vote. 2. Please vote in the following format: ##vote: Half the Sky. Votes not done in the correct fashion will not be counted. I or my co-host will update vote counts whenever we get the chance. 3. If you change your vote, please ##unvote before posting another vote (can be done in the same post). 4. No conditional voting. 5. You may not vote for yourself. You may not vote for anyone dead or outside the game. 6. You may not vote for a no-lynch. 7. Voting is mandatory. You may NOT abstain. Failure to vote will result in a warning on the first offence. Subsequent offences will result in a modkill.Signups and Wisdom of the Crowds: Signups will be open to all players regardless of experience. Please exercise caution if you are new to forum mafia - I would recommend you sign up for the newbie game which will have coaching available. The hosts also reserve the right to deny participation to those individuals that are known to disrupt the playing experience for others. If we also receive more than five (behaviour based) objections on a specific player, we will most likely not allow that individual to play. We want everyone to have a positive experience playing on TL regardless of their skill level. Game-specific rules: Modkills:This game follows the TL Mafia Ban List. If you are modkilled, your punishment will go beyond being eliminated from this game. Please refer to it for questions about your punishment. If you want to use this game to sit out your ban, please PM us and post in the Ban List. Behaviour:1 Simply put, do not be a dick. We will pre-warn, warn or modkill you if you approach or cross the line. I am specifically most against personal attacks. These games are meant to be fun for everyone; play the game, but don't ruin the experience. 2 Absolutely, positively, no discussion about other concurrent games in this thread. This can affect other games and is unacceptable. You may discuss players' activities external of TL Mafia, but do not discuss any play in any other ongoing game. Violation of this rule will result in a warning; subsequent offences will result in a modkill. Replacements:This game uses replacements. Replacements will be made until Night 2. If a player needs to depart after Night 2, he or she will be modkilled. No exceptions. If a player is modkilled before Night 2, they will be replaced by a player on the replacement list if possible. Type /replace if you want to be put on the replacement list. Clues:There are no clues. The storyline in my game is for entertainment purposes only. PMs:PMs are not allowed in this game, with the exception of the scumteam and masons. No out-of-thread communication of any sort is allowed for other players. The scumteam and masons, if any, will be provided their respective QTs to communicate in. Coaches:As there is a newbie game currently open, and separate analysis provided, there will be no coaches allowed this game. Shadows:I will permit shadows this game. If you shadow a player, I will provide a separate QT for you and your shadow. If your player happen to RNG into the scumteam, you will not have access to scum QT. Observers:Please PM the hosts for the Observer QT once the game has started, otherwise, type /obs in the signup thread. Time Cycle:This game will follow a 24 hour night/48 hour day-cycle. The deadline is 22:00 GMT (+00:00). Please note the deadline is xx:59 and I will not accept votes/actions at xx:00. Do not post after the deadline. Any alignment relevant information posted after the deadline and before the flip will result in a modkill. The game will resume when the night post is up. There will be no resolution period for night actions. Credits:Thanks to pretty much every TL mafia player/host/mod/etc who has hosted and revised rulesets/guidance. Many thanks to Blazinghand, Artanis and Kitaman who have all provided me with much insight and guidance regarding hosting over my time here at TL. Credit to Ver for his approach to post-restricted games whose policies I use for mine. A shoutout to Tictock and Fidei86 for helping me cohost this game and Damdred for providing post-game analysis. Much <3 to all of you!

Cast of Characters![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/GkLkqXC.png) This is a semi-open setup. Possible roles are known but the exact number is not.
Aborigines and Allies
Win condition: All poachers are eliminated or concede or nothing can stop this from happening.
The Anangu (Town Vanilla) The Anangu are an ethnic group residing largely in Western Australia and the Northwest Territory. You win with your voice and your vote.
The Yamatji (Millers) You are not one of the Anangu but having shared their territory, you are vigilant against intruders and poachers. Unfortunately because your dress is closer to that of a poacher's, you will return as a poacher to alignment checks. You are not aware.
The Noongar (Wanderers) You are not one of the Anangu but being semi-nomadic, have wandered into their territory and have been mistaken for intruders from time to time. You are not aware.
Breshke (Detective) A university student and aspiring conservationist, Breshke has scored an internship for the winter term that has him all over the Australian outback. He monitors hunting and visitor activity and as such can check one player per night to learn their alignment.
Jessica Mauboy (Tracker) An Australian pop singer whose family originates from the indigenous in the NW territory, Jessica visits family fairly often and her career takes her touring nearly everywhere on the continent. She is able to track one person per night to learn their whereabouts.
Kelvin Kong (Jailer) A prominent surgeon, he can heal or take care of one player per night, however whilst in his care, the player cannot take any action.
Sue Gordon (Banisher) Dr. Sue Gordon is a magistrate based in the NW Territory who presides over cases involving abuse and violence in aboriginal communities. She can order away one player of her choosing per night (removing them from the game overnight) and that player can not be killed or have any action taken upon them.
Christine Anu (Town Vigilante) A prominent singer, Christine is accompanied by bodyguards and can order them to take out anyone she feels is a threat to her. She has only one attempt and if roleblocked, cannot do so again.
Ernie Dingo (Veteran) Ernie Dingo is a Yamatji-based Australian actor who has had a very long career and has spent years promoting Aborigine equality. As he is no stranger to violence, he has a few bodyguards accompanying him and his family. They will protect him from 1kp, but he will succumb to additional attacks. If roleblocked, his guards will be unable to protect him, and he will be vulnerable to poachers.
DarthPunk (Named Town) DarthPunk is on a long road trip to Perth, driving quite noticeably through the Australian Outback. But the hazards don't deter him in the least.
Poachers
Win condition: Bring the numbers of the Aborigines and their allies equivalent to your level, or to a condition where nothing can stop this from happening.
Park Keeper (Mafia Godfather) A native to the Outback, and with his people subject to poverty, he takes bribes to allow illegal access to white rhinos brought in from Africa. Returns Aboriginal to alignment checks, and is untrackable.
Expedition Leader (Mafia Roleblocker) With South Africa clamping down on poaching, the outback is slowly drawing illegal activity related to poaching. The expedition leader is skilled and adept at not only finding his prey but also throwing authorities off track. Once per night he can select one individual whose efforts to hamper and that person cannot take action for the night.
Captain (Mafia Framer) Sea captains are ravaging the dugong population through poaching off the shores of the north and western territories. Even worse, they somehow manage to not just get away with their crimes but also incriminate innocents on the coast in the process. Each night the captain can select one individual who will return the opposite alignment when checked. He cannot frame himself.
Sniper (Mafia Vigilante) The sniper, solid with aim, can spot threats from afar - animal or human - and can take them out. The sniper has one shot at taking out a human thread and if roleblocked, loses that bullet.
Team Rover (Mafia Rolecop) Tracking between poacher camps, he is on the lookout for authorities and natives that protect their territory. Each night, he can check the role of a player.
Hunters (Mafia Vanilla) Novice hunters help support more experienced poachers with the basics - setting up camps, laying traps and the like. Ah yes, and they carry KP too if they please.

Game Mechanics and Setup
1 There are no notifications unless absolutely necessary. 2 There are no alignment changing mechanics. 3 There are no third party roles. 4 If the vigilante is either roleblocked or shoots into protection, (s)he will not be refunded. 5 A mafia powerrole may carry KP and use their ability on someone else simultaneously. 6 The mafia RB always supercedes the banisher. 7 The mafia RB and town jailer resolve simultaneously. The jailer loses protective ability and the RB, if delivering KP, will have that delivery stopped. 8 The veteran is roleblockable. 9 KP from opposing factions resolve simultaneously. 10 The scumteam are permitted to hold their shot if they wish.
Mafia KP = 1kp KP must be delivered by individuals and subject to RB/tracking rules.
If there are any questions on roles or rules, you can ask openly until game start. Once the game starts, everything must be kept in PM land.

Damdred has volunteered to be doing post game analysis. Many thanks!
Please let him know by voting (and only if you intend to play) which type of analysis you want.
Town based is where Damdred writes the analysis based on his own reads of players in the game not knowing who is what alignment.
Example of town based - Assassination Mafia http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/mafia/485668-assassination-mafia-analysis
Mafia based analysis is where the analyst has full information on everyone and their roles and writes it that way.
Either way I feel this will be a great tool for those of you looking to improve your play.

There is a minimum for inactivity and per post restriction a maximum.

Post donations are in the main game thread.

Updated with poll

Playerlist updated.
Post-restriction policies have been clarified, edited to note that players giving posts to each other should be occurring in the MAIN game thread and not the voting thread.
If there are any other questions, this is the time to post them.
Roles will be up soon if not tonight, then definitely tomorrow.

Also if any players want to shadow or host shadows, this is also the time to make those arrangements. I will provide QTs for those doing this.

As for Ras, I'm just going to call her Ras-pew-tin from now on....she's scum in any game I play with her until she does something to prove otherwise. xD

Prologue
24 July 2015 Alice Springs, NW Territory, Australia
"So we have an unusual crime wave going down in the Outback?" radioed a park supervisor to police. "Is this any different from the alcohol abuse and domestic violence cases we've been seeing in the local communities?"
"Well," replied the police sergeant, "this is actually even worse than that. The natives have their own problems and we have had the infrastructure to deal with those but recently since South Africa's rhino poaching issues have gotten worse and some of the population has been temporarily imported to Western Australia, some of those poachers have decided to set up shop here and we don't have the infrastructure to deal with those people. We overestimated the outcry that would occur as we didn't think poaching would be a problem then."
"This is rather stupid," responded the supervisor, "poaching off the shores is nothing new, ship captains have been getting fined and arrested for years."
"I'm talking about LAND poaching, not sea!" the sergeant exclaimed. "We have sparse supervision in West Australia and the government has been very slow to respond. There's been a string of deaths too as these people have been violent and it can only get worse depending on how far and deep they have spread in the Outback. Crocodile hunting deaths are also exceeding the maximum allowed and this has a lot to do with the influx of these poachers. Interference with the aboriginals would be a disaster."
We have 13 players, and ready to go. Confirmations start now. Please type /confirm in thread (or respond to my PM).
The game starts tomorrow 24 July at 2300 BST.
Once we are at 30 minutes to game start, or 21:30 GMT (+00:00), there is to be complete silence in the thread until all role PMs are distributed and the daypost (Day 1) is up.
Observers and replacements can still /obs or /replace and shadows can still make arrangements until the silence period.

Those of you who have not voted in the post game analysis poll on page 1 (below my mechanics post) please do so before the silence period.
|
Currently we stand at 9/13 confirms in and 1 replacement.
Voting Notes and Reminders:
EoD is 22:00 GMT (+00:00) with nothing counting after xx:59:59.
A couple of things regarding voting - this game WILL be utilising Xatalos' script tracker. The separate voting thread is necessary because of the post-restriction but irregardless, we will use the tracker to help us count votes.
Xatalos has a page for each game where all votes are kept in the order they were made in the voting thread. That page is here, but is also linked in the important posts spoiler in the OP.
You may place your votes in here but only votes in the actual voting thread (here) will count. This part does not deviate from most other games with voting threads.
That way if for some reason you have exceeded the post limit and especially if you are already on a warning for that, if for some reason you need to vote or change a vote you can still do so without incurring further penalty. Votes in the voting thread will not count against your limit.
But because we are also using the script please absolutely make sure your vote is in the correct format otherwise the tracker will not pick it up.
That said, we always manual doublecheck things, we always want to get things right here, but as nearly every host is testing Xatalos' script (more on that here) for widespread use, we - and Xatalos - would appreciate your cooperation with this.
If any of you notice any problems with the webpage tracker or think there's a bug (outside of our manual counting), please post in the votecount tool thread or PM any of the moderators.
|
Xatalos wrote the following to me:
The goal of the app is to make the lives of hosts easier by reducing the need for manual labor (votecounting). However, there are currently some restrictions that need to be followed so that it works properly: 1) Votes need to be made in the proper format. That means something like ##Vote name or ##Vote: name, not #!Vote name. In addition, the vote targets need to be spelled correctly. Currently all names are changed to lower case (so "Half the Sky" -> "half the sky"), so that much variation is allowed, but if the characters are different, then two different vote targets are created and the final votecount becomes harder to use (the host needs to combine the separate targets into one). 2) Every cycle change (Day/Night) post needs to be posted by a host (the names written in the Host(s) field). In addition, the cycle change post needs to have the text "Day X" or "Night X" as the first text on the first line of the post. Styling ([b]) or empty spaces (" ") before the text are allowed, but no line breaks or other text. What's more, the cycle change post can't include the word "vote" anywhere in it. That's because votecount posts are ignored that way currently.
TLDR - I think I erred with my own Day 1 start post. But the target name is not case sensitive. Hold on...
|
If it doesn't pick up with my edit, then I will PM Xatalos, because I am sure now we are both following directions with voting.
EDIT: According to Holyflare there is a 15-20 minute delay in the reading of the thread. In any case, I'm leaving Xata a PM regarding this.
|
On July 24 2015 13:33 Onegu wrote: also is the vote tracker Case sensisitive? If it is will never play in a game with it again. Annoying to not write rsoul already
I will say this much - if I cannot sort out this issue by the silence period, I will scrap the use of the tracker altogether and we will count manually. We will count manually regardless because this script is just starting to get used and Xatalos has had to make some tweaks to it. But rest assured we will sort it out one way or another <3

FirmTofu will replace yamato77. Waiting on Palmar to confirm...
|
On July 24 2015 19:02 Xatalos wrote: Yeah, everything else works now but every time it scans, the last post in the thread is ignored... And permanently ignored too, since every post is scanned only once...
I'll look into this again a bit later.
Alright, thanks for the heads up. No worries if it's not in time for game start, we will count through manually. I guess that's why it's not had problems in other threads if people post right away after a vote.
|
I've sent Onegu a PM. If you don't think it's viable to use in any voting thread at all, please let us know and we will scrap the tracker and I will use it in my next game that is not post-restricted.
|
|
Xatalos, thanks for everything you are doing - not just for this game but the tool in general will help hosts across the board massively.
And what do you mean it's not a word clarity? It means the same thing as irrespective or regardless?
|
I just looked up the word.
I hate the English language >_<
|
Tictock has confirmed to me that Palmar PMed him that he is in. Shy of FirmTofu having to back out, we have our 13.
The game starts tonight at 22:00 GMT (+00:00). I will RNG roles within that hour. Silence period is 30 minutes prior.
If there are any questions about mechanics, post-restriction, voting, whatever, this is the time to ask them in the open otherwise once the game starts, ALL questions must be handled via PM.
Again, shadows have until then to make arrangements. Until then, carry on!
|
On July 24 2015 22:34 Xatalos wrote:No, it should be perfectly usable with a voting thread once this bug is fixed I just meant that the largest single benefit of the tool is that the host(s) don't need to search for the votes manually since the scanner finds them automatically. With a voting thread, it's much easier to count the votes anyway, so the benefit isn't as large. It should still be somewhat useful... But I don't think it's a "huge help" like in a game without a voting thread.
Got it, sorry I misunderstood. Thanks again for all your help.

About the above rule, to what extent that this apply? I will rewrite this for clarity. This is solely in reference to activity in other ongoing games. Basically to stay on the safe side, pretend the other thread or another game the player could be in doesn't exist. The reason is that it will affect people's thinking who are in both games, and such.
If you want to talk about people idling in ts3, playing Dota/watching TI5, or doing whatever in real life, that is completely fine.

The size of the post does NOT matter in a post-restricted game - simply the number of posts. 20 posts are always on 1 page of filter. In such games you are encouraged to consolidate posts.

Day 1
24 July 2015 Alice Springs, NW Territory, Australia
Fidei, Tictock and myself hopped into a Jeep ready to begin our safari tour, binoculars at the ready. Tictock kicked back as he started to drink some water.
"Temperatures are going to reach 37C...this is going to be really bad." he complained.
"What on earth were you expecting?" I replied.
The tour guide smiled as he started to drive us away from the visitors' centre. "I'm going to take you all through the northern route - you all can observe alligators, birds, and other wildlife in relative safety," he said.
"What's so unsafe about the south?" asked Fidei.
"The south is littered with poachers and there's been clashes between them and the local communities." he responded, "and violence in the local communities along with those clashes has made the southern part of the Outback extremely volatile."
"What are the chances the violence could start moving north?" I asked, "and why isn't the government doing anything about it?"
"The local government is extremely powerless and almost useless, but the local communities have also been distrustful of the high officials. It has been all about exploitation for the last several decades now and the foreign poaching adds a whole new level to how complex the situation really is."
"Well," responded Tictock, "I'm not too worried about our safety on this safari to be honest, but I will be a little more concerned because we will have to head through that southern region if we are to get to Perth."
"I wouldn't chance it," snapped the guide, "not in the least."
"Seriously?"
"The poachers are a lot more dangerous than you realise."
Day 1 has begun.
We are underway - Day 1 has begun! The voting thread is here. Day 1 ends in at 22:00 GMT (+00:00). At that time, the player with the most votes gets lynched.

Due to issues with the voting tracker, the night post will be delayed a (hopefully) very short period as I manually count the votes.
Please ignore the latest vote count in the vote thread as I sort the issue out.
|
Everyone please stop posting. Day 1 has concluded.
|
KelsierSC's final vote on scott31337 will not count as it occurred at 2300.
The lynch would appear to be FirmTofu with 6 votes.
Please be patient as I re-confirm.

Apologies for the delay. The lynch is confirmed as FirmTofu with 6 votes. Please stand by for the flip.

Night 1
26 July 2015 Alice Springs, NW Territory, Australia
"Thank you very much for everything!" I quipped at our safari guide as we all hopped out of the Jeep.
"I hope you enjoyed your tour and the wildlife sightings as much as I did taking you all around," the guide responded.
Fidei nodded with approval as we walked back to the visitors' centre. As we waited for our next bus, we sat down and watched the local news.
"Reports have been circulating of escalating violence between poachers and local communities in Western Australia and at least 15 arrests have been made between Lake Carnegie and Lake Disappointment. Additional maritime security has been deployed off the Timur Sea, and closer to Darwin, as well as Arafura Sea. Another half a dozen sea captains have been apprehended as the dugong population has plummeted and cited for lacking the proper fishing or hunting licenses...."
"Well it looks like our adventure is going to get interesting really quickly," responded Tictock. "Maybe start making our way towards Queensland?"
"I'd say just avoid the questionable areas," responded Fidei, "but maybe I'll phone our travel agent."
I continued to watch the news, as I saw a slew of navy officers take down a sea captain live.
"Something tells me this is going to get worse before it gets better, maybe go for some crawfish hunting tomorrow? That might be somewhat safe to do."
FirmTofu, the sea captain (Mafia Framer), has been detained.

Day 2
28 July 2015 Granite Gorge, Queensland, Australia
"So this morning we're headed to Granite Gorge to check out the wallabies," I told Fidei and Tictock as we took yet another long drive, this time we stuck around Queensland. "At this section of the desert will be much safer. Chiliagoe is also an awesome place to catch more wildlife."
"I'm going to try and feed some of the wallabies," remarked Tictock, "they look pretty cute."
"We're going to be joined by Foolishness and Ver when we get down there by the way," I added. "They've been in the Outback for about a week but they are back up here. Holyflare was there earlier but he got really sick and took back for Queensland."
"Well, that's a pity, I wanted to meet him," replied Tictock, "apparently this is his third trip down here, so he has some serious interest in this sort of thing."
We continued a good 200km into the northern strip of Queensland and got a good look at packs of wallabies.
"I sorta want to take one of them home," quipped Tictock, "they are so cute."
After several hours, we drove into Chiliagoe, where we met up with the rest of the crew.
"So how much adventuring have you done?" asked Ver when we all met up for lunch at the park cafe.
"Well we wanted to go deeper into the Outback but the poacher activity has been making it unsafe." Fidei complained.
"That's why we got out of there after a week," responded Foolishness, "we have been having some major issues with the unrest with some of the local settlements, even some tour guides had to cancel on us."
"I didn't realise it had gotten that bad," I said. "Wow."
I popped my tablet and started checking the news for updates on the escalating violence in the Outback and sure enough, the latest incidents in Alice Springs and near Lake Disappointment revealed more deaths, and only now was the government mobilising more law enforcement to take action in the area.
raynpelikoneet, of the Anangu (Town Vanilla), had died in the clashes.

Night 2
29 July 2015 Eyre Peninsula, South Australia
"Alright, we're doing a coastal safari," quipped Foolishness, "time to make use of my SCUBA certification, woohoo!"
"When the hell did you get certified?" asked Ver.
"Last month," he replied, "I'm going to be spending a lot of time near the ocean with my six month rotation from work, so may as well."
"Damn you," replied Ver, "I'm stuck in a cubicle working 12 hour days."
"Honestly," I interrupted, "I'm just happy to be doing one of these, you can be caged if you don't want to actually scuba dive and there are a few observations you can make from the ship if you are averse to getting in the water. We can split up according to preference since there are multiple options for our safari."
We made our way to port where we all registered with our safari company and split up accordingly. Tictock, Foolishness and Blazinghand were all certified scuba divers so they requested a comprehensive tour, the rest of us comprised the second group where some of us would be caged if we wanted to go underwater, similarly part of our boat had an underwater viewing window that would allow for viewing of fish without actually touching the water.
Once we were suited up, we made our way to our assigned boat with the proper staff.
"Where's the captain?" I asked our guide.
"He's finalising the inspection."
All of a sudden, a raging scream pierced the air.
Immediately the guide and the first mate ran inside to see the captain fighting an unwanted guest, an intruder. The first mate took him down.
"No questions asked," the first mate replied, "get him the hell out of here."
"No, have the officer at registration book him," the captain replied angrily as security officers descended upon the boat, "and THEN get him the hell out of here!"
"Well shit," muttered the guide, "We will probably have to reassign you to another boat in case there's been tampering. There's been some sea poaching activity going on, but it appears one may have slipped through the cracks."

Everyone, I have read the thread over the last cycle. No one individual is liable for a behaviour warning yet, but I sensed enough collective tension in the thread so I just remind you lot to stay civil. Most of you know where I stand with behaviour, so just please stay civil and carry on.
|
For those unfamiliar with the rule, upon request, days can be shortened to 24 hours instead of 48. Voting must be done at night (and only in effect for the next day cycle) and for the day cycle to be shortened for the duration of the game, the votes have to be unanimous in favour. The deadline time remains at 2300 BST, this cannot change.
Votes must be sent to me (and you only need to send it to me alone) via PM.
Vote YES if you want to shorten the day to 24 hours, NO if you want to retain 48 hour cycles.
Do not discuss this vote anywhere in the thread - carry on and simply just tell me what you want and I will announce the result at the daypost.
I realise there are only 3 hours left in the night cycle, but I'll go ahead and entertain regardless. If people fail to vote, there is no penalty - only that the cycle will stay 48 hours.
|
rsoultin has been warned for reaching the cycle limit of 80 posts. She may not post unless granted additional posts by other players; if granted, she may not exceed aggregate limit. Exceeding the aggregate limit after a warning will result in a modkill.
Votes in the voting thread do not count towards the limit.

Day 3
29 July 2015 Warburton, West Australia
"Hey," yelled Tictock, "do we have the permits for fishing/crayfish hunting available online? Or do we have to get something physical?"
"Nope, we have to pick it up at the nature preservation registration area," I replied. "And I'm going to do that now."
I drove a short while to the registration centre, and remembering that a young intern named Breshke had served me before, he had told me to contact him when I arrived today as he was in charge of registrations.
I arrived at around 8:30am and knocked on the door. No answer. After waiting roughly 15 minutes, I looked it up on my mobile - the registration centre was supposed to be open. Perhaps another entrance?
I walked around the building to find another entrance or even a side corridor to where I could get what I needed. To my luck, the side entrance was open and I entered another hallway that pointed an arrow in the direction of the main lobby.
"Alright," I said to myself, "soon I'll be on my way."
Then I turned the corner to face a grisly surprise.
It was the intern, slumped over his desk and covered in blood from his stab wounds.
I let out a scream, and a string of words inappropriate for print.
Hopeless1der, as Breshke (Detective), has been assassinated!
Day 3 has begun. The voting thread is here. Day 3 ends in at 22:00 GMT (+00:00). At that time, the player with the most votes gets lynched.
|
Cycle Change Result
Regarding the shortening of the cycle, we had a few no-votes and one individual who voted no to shortening the cycle.
Therefore, the day cycle will remain at 48 hours, and EoD remains at 2300 BST.

Night 3
1 August 2015 Laverton, West Australia
Somewhere near Laverton, a man foreign to the land went hunting for wild game.
Somewhere in the rolling winds, he was spotted by much of the Anangu, who wondered what this man was doing in their territory.
"Who are you? What are you doing here? Why are you here? Where are you going?"
The questions were consistent.
The questions were pervasive.
We won't be sure what the answers ever were but whatever they were, the result of a dead man's body was quite telling.
"Snickers, you're not one of us. Die."

Night 4
4 August 2015 Perth, Western Australia
"Ver, you look dressed to kill," remarked Blazinghand as several of the guys were getting decked out to hit the clubs. "You'll be picking up the ladies in no time."
Tictock emerged into the living room of the group's rented villa with his girlfriend Isabel.
"We ready?" he asked.
"Let's go," replied Blazinghand to the rest of the group. "We're headed to Mustang, it's American-style, gotta go for that taste of home."
"Really?" rebelled Artanis. "Americans and their shitty beer, I swear...."
When they arrived, they were greeted by a mix of locals and tourists. The group quickly ordered their drinks after they sat down. Blazinghand looked over at the balcony and pulled out a cigar and walked outside. Tictock pulled his girlfriend closer to him, noticing the sheer number of men checking her out.
Stood behind them, a decent distance away was boxerfred and his friend, scoping out the room. Soon enough, the former laid eyes on Isabel.
"Don't give a shit who she came in with, she's going home....with me."
Seeing Tictock leave to run to the restroom, he swooped down and sat right next to Isabel and attempted to make some small talk.
Artanis looked at him nonplussed. "Do you know her?" he asked. "Do you know any of us? Well I certainly don't know you."
"This is relevant how?" he asked.
"You'll find how relevant it will be when her boyfriend gets back here," muttered Artanis sternly.
As if on cue, Tictock reappeared to see him seated a little too close to Isabel.
And the uncomfortable look on Isabel's face was all it took.
"Who are you and what are you doing?" demanded Tictock angrily.
"Making a little small talk," he replied. "Got a problem with that?"
Tictock pulled the man up by his arms, dragging him away from Isabel. Undeterred however, his rival fought back, throwing himself at and shoving Tictock into the centre of the room. Artanis plunged forward and using his now-polished capoeira skills, managed to drop-kick boxerfred as the latter screamed in pain. Tictock pounced on top of him as Isabel yelled for security.
"NOW do you think Tictock is relevant, dipshit?" hissed Artanis. "Maybe you'll think differently once you're out of here."

Day 5
5 August 2015 Perth, Western Australia
The crew reached their hotel in the wee hours of the morning.
"I can't believe that idiot that tried to hit on Isabel," grumbled Tictock. "Bastard."
"Well, he got what was coming to him," replied Artanis. "Anyways, has anyone gotten a call yet from Palmar?"
"Didn't he say he was going to split and go to Freemantle?" asked Blazinghand.
"No, he changed his mind at the last minute."
"Would have been nice to get a text or something, we could have all easily joined up together," Blazinghand replied.
Ver staggered in, suffering from a hangover.
"Yeh, fuck this," he muttered, "I'm crashing."
Blazinghand pulled out his phone. As if on cue, there was a text message he'd missed earlier from Palmar.
"Oh wait," he paused. "Looks like he didn't even go out at all. He's actually crashed early in his hotel room."
Blazinghand walked over to his room and banged loudly on the door. No answer. He then dialled him.
A raspy sounding voice answered on the other end.
"Why hello there. Who are you?"
Blazinghand double checked his mobile to his horror. He HAD the right number, so why wasn't Palmar answering the phone?
He then tore back to his room and tried to call him room to room. Still no answer. Finally, he rang the concierge to bring up security to manually open the door. And when they did, to their chagrin, they saw that someone had broken into the room from the window and bludgeoned poor Palmar to death.
Palmar, of the Anangu (Town Vanilla), was murdered in his sleep.

Day 6
8 August 2015 Laverton, Western Australia
The crew of natives in their boats set out on a bright Saturday morning as they revved up to go crocodile hunting.
GlowingBear headed the expedition upriver away from Laverton with about 10 other members in his crew. A few of his teammates had already bagged 2 crocodiles, and were delayed in taking them out.
They expected to spot a few more crocs upriver, but when they failed to spot any of them at least 4 hours later, they knew something was off.
GlowingBear pulled his boat ashore and tumbled off it with his crewmates. He spotted a commissary and with another crewmember went to the building to gather some water and more supplies.
When he arrived, to his horror, he saw the shopkeeper slumped over with a gunshot wound to his chest.
And before he could react, he heard a loud scream behind him.
His crewmate had been shot, and before he knew it, he was surrounded by poachers.
GlowingBear, of the Anangu (Town Vanilla), was seized by the poachers.

Night 6 and Epilogue
10 August 2015 Dunsborough, Western Australia
Our party managed to make it through the Outback and through to Western Australia to observe more wildlife. The government had mobilised forces into the Outback to quell the poachers and we managed to reach Western Australia after a long drive through the Outback.
As for me, once we reached Western Australia, I had a little too much fun feeding the stingrays.
"Welp," replied Tictock, "we're here and we're in one piece."
Our guide for the day smiled as he took us into another boat.
"This area is way more peaceful now that we've flushed the poachers out. The seas for one are more safe and less crowded. Although I'm not sure how they are doing inland."
About an hour later, we observed up close a slew of sea lions.
"Haven't seen these in a while, not this season." remarked the guide.
"Probably flushing out the poachers has a lot to do with it." I replied with a smile. "When was the last time?"
"Definitely not this summer."
"Which means it might be a good time to go fishing," replied Ver. "Anyone know if they lifted the fishing restrictions?"
"Not sure, but either way I think we don't have to worry about safety for once."
ObiWanShinobi, another rogue hunter (Mafia Vanilla), had been driven from the Outback!
Onegu, as DarthPunk (Named Town) rsoultin, of the Anangu (Town Vanilla)
...are both enjoying their lives in peace.
The Mafia have been defeated...
Town Victory!
Lake Mungo (Observer QT) is here. Kutakina Cave (Mafia QT) is here. Role and Action List is here.
I would like to thank everyone for playing and congratulations to the town on their victory. Cheers Fidei and Tictock for helping with co-hosting.
I especially want to thank Damdred and geript for offering their skills to analyse this game, and I really look forward to their writeup.
Please stick around for post-game analysis and conversation.

QTs have been updated. My mistake.

OWS, like I said, you gave it your all. You would have had a much better shot had it been you and scott in final two, but that wasn't to be. I'm not sure GB would have voted Onegu over you but it would have gone back and forth. It is really difficult when you lose your first two scum players and getting 3/4 mislynches is something, though I realise it's painful to fall short.

In a final three with Rasputin, GB and OWS, I'm not sure OWS would have had any more luck, she was townreading GB.

I have to say, I wasn't sure if Onegu was really going to vote down Rasputin and afk, or if he was actually trolling, it was to the point I had a mafia victory post all readied up in case that happened as shocking as it would have been.
+ Show Spoiler [No kidding - if Obi pulled it off] +Night 6 and Epilogue 10 August 2015 Laverton, Western AustraliaDarthPunk sighed as he finished another bottle of water with his Anangu guide. He was nearly finished his cross country drive from east to west Australia and was ready for even more R&R in Perth. He had decided to stop a little and check out the wildlife and his guide had taken him a bit around Laverton before he would head southwest towards Perth. He and the guide were about to get back into the car when they were surrounded by poachers. His guide, who was Anangu, immediately started to panic, but DarthPunk tried to calm her down. "Hey guys," started DarthPunk, "we're not here to cause trouble. I'm on a cross country trip, and I needed a guide to set me on the right way to Perth. I'm from Queensland, for fuck's sake." "Why are you here with one of the natives then?" snarled one of the poachers. "I said I needed a guide," he replied, "I'm Aussie but not from around here. And I don't belong to the feds. I don't have any involvement here." "You didn't answer the question," the poacher retorted. "WHY ARE YOU HERE?" "I'm on a cross country trip and I'm going to Perth." DarthPunk replied, "Not sure how many times I can say that." Immediately one of the poachers stepped out to grab his guide. She tried to run away but was promptly seized by the poachers that surrounded her. "Let her go!" yelled DarthPunk. "It's a shame you had nothing to do with anything out here, but unfortunately you were in the wrong place at the wrong time." rsoultin, of the Anangu (Town Vanilla), was shot by the poachers!
Onegu, as DarthPunk (Named Town) was unable to escape the poachers.
ObiWanShinobi, a rogue hunter (Mafia Vanilla), continues to pilfer the Outback!

On August 11 2015 07:15 marvellosity wrote: the scott lynch was hysterically bad
I think that was the general consensus in the observer QT - I can see why those who weighted his behaviour more heavily (as opposed to balance argument) voted him down, but the ones that took very much setup speculation into mind and then still voted him down (Rasputin I <3 you lady, but I'm really looking at you here) I don't understand why you'd say "ah can't be any godfather" you know how I do my setups, you said framer/miller/gf was not balanced and then you think Scott might be mafia, make a quip on the DT goofing up his check and then if you think Scott is mafia you imply he's godfather.
So that was one thing that I was really scratching my head on, because I pulled out a bunch of quotes at length and you really went into setup discussion to the point that you shouldn't have ever voted Scott. I just didn't understand your train of thought on that one.
|
Ah, you had ninjaed me there. It makes sense if you wanted to think Onegu might have fakeclaimed and he'd have gotten lynched I suppose. I know Scott made a few posts about his IRL availability or lack thereof, but at that point it might have been too little too late for him.

That was another thing, on one hand Palmar hammered Slam with two seconds until EoD, but Slam being forced to AFK for real life reasons (he had exams) I mean I went back to where he said he had to afk and if I were town and had final exams I would have just stated as such. I don't know. Then again, I have to go back and check to see how much of that push was because of Clarity's gameplay or if it was because of Slam's actual entrance. I know the latter's entrance was NOT great even with a legit RL reason.

Role/action list updated FWIW.
If anyone has any feedback about the game setup/post-restriction or anything else they want to mention regarding my approach to this game give me a shout. I'm always looking to improve my hosting and I do care about the experience people have playing my games.
I do appreciate everyone staying mostly civil this game, it got a little heated I think D2/N2 but for the most part everyone was cool, and I appreciate that.
I felt looking at Ver's/Palmar's post restrictions and my last Down Under game, 4 pages for m13 per 72 hours I felt was relatively fair, and Ver's idea of max 10 post donations seemed a great way to give some flexibility in the event someone found themselves getting wagoned, etc. I know for Down Under 2, someone mentioned 20 posts for the night phase was too little so giving some flexibility between day and night should have hopefully solved that problem.
I think we had about 6-7 postcount warnings (which is what I would have expected with the given player roster) and there was one day that Snickers reached 118/118 posts after 4 waves of donations but everyone seemed conscious of where they were at even when filters went down with the upgrade.
Also there were some questions regarding setup. I personally wanted a slightly reduced emphasis on roles, which is why I only gave two blue roles and went for a simple DT v framer deal, which gives town 4 mislynches to lose no matter what.
Maybe I should have swapped the named town for a 1-shot something, I've not seen such a role in an m13.
Finally there was questioning regarding the replacement for Clarity. For what I have gathered and based on conversations I've had with other veteran hosts, Night 2 is the latest people will get replaced. That to me would appear relatively standard across the board.
I believe one individual mentioned he didn't like how late in the cycle a replacement could happen and this I know had not come up in those conversations, I believe Clarity was officially replaced out with about 4-5h left. I know I wouldn't have replaced out with less than 2 hours though, but at the time I did feel 4-5h was ample enough time.

Other than that, good game, good hosts, all around enjoyable experience. I agree with this tho. Not that it was game changeable, but it sounds better.
Fair enough. I thought of some of the replacement situations I've encountered on TL going into this decision, but I'm thinking going forward (this in from BH) 12 hours might be a better cutoff on whether to throw the replacement in or wait until the next phase. I was worried waiting until the next phase without Clarity voting might modconfirm him (he could in theory be warned for failure to vote per my rules) but I've been since told how to get around that without affecting how people perceive the player in question.
I know LoneMeow replaced a newbie out for Holyflare like maybe 2 hours prior to the daypost and he was NKed instantly so I knew I'd never replace that close to the deadline, but at least I have a better sense of what timeframe makes sense.
