Yes. Assuming your player RNGs town, (s)/he should be mentioning to you how he's reading someone/why/what is/isn't catching their attention. If your player rolls mafia, it still is the same concept except your player will tell you his strategy to avoid the lynch/protect his teammates/disrupt town agenda/gain townreads, etc.

/in if your schedule allows, but if not I'd say definitely go for the shadow rather than just obsing. It's a valuable opportunity to follow along and learn how a vet operates. Heck, I'd jump at the chance if I weren't hosting this.

Okay, thanks. ![](/mirror/smilies/smile.gif) Will try to verify my schedule tomorrow.

Alternatively if you don't mind the fact that I only started playing again recently and that I've only played a couple of games on TL itself I'd be up for being the second cohost if nobody else is. I'm always up for helping out with things like that and the experience would be useful (I plan to eventually host myself in the future).

Huh, I hadn't heard about the shadow stuff before either. Is that generally an option in most games or just the Newbie games?

Only when a veteran player is gracious enough to offer it (big thanks to LoneMeow!) Usually this means in a newbie; in other games you'd need to notify the host.

If you need players instead I can play instead of coach but that means fewer newbies

Yeah, might open newbie slot up to vets later, say, when it's down to the last spot. It'd be more valuable to have you as a coach though.

FYI, I'm not going to be around much during the weekend (first track day of the summer, whoo!).

complete newbie here, enthusiastic about the game though. Played some werewolf (same as mafia, expect other role names) in reality and played often the sc2 mafia arcade map Welcome, your reputation precedes you. Forum mafia is high volume reading and posting compared to RL mafia/werewolf or the SC2 arcade version and is thus a fairly demanding game. Highly recommend that you read through a couple, say, recent newbie games If you haven't already done so, to get a sense of what it's like. Definitely read the guides, and go over the OP/rules carefully. Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
I didn't realize that I have a reputation now. However, is that a good or a bad thing? I was hoping to stay among the anonymous, shady people that are all over the internet. However, I feel like I read myself already through huge walls of text and am still not understanding everything. I'm glad that we have some time to go before the game is filled up so I can actually read more and try to ask some questions.

I'm sure you'll be fine. I was confused to hell to begin with in my first game despite having read a bunch of guides but settled in alright.
The trick is not to get intimidated by tons of new pages to read through since the previous night.

Okay, tried to figure out my schedule. 50% chance that I won't be around for EoD/EoN on Friday (reliance on other ppl is great). Saturday is super tight and it is likely that I only have 2-3 hours for mafia that day and will pretty much 100% miss EoD/EoN. Other than that I should have plenty of time. ![](/mirror/smilies/smile.gif)
Would that be acceptable?

If you have only one day where you totally are blanked, that is more than acceptable. In Assassination I had two entire days (with a wedding last weekend) I had to drop activity significantly and my credibility didn't really take much of a hit.
You cover yourself with a pre-game excuse and you are set. Play your best game possible prior to departure and you will be fine.
Most town players (who pay attention to pre-game) will take your non-activity as NAI if you have the pre-game excuse up (which this last post of yours effectively suffices). If the host mandates posting 1-2 times every cycle, etc, then post a one-liner with the best thing you know before you drift off into RL.
If you should RNG scum, make sure you communicate your night actions/kp/whatever in QT so that you don't hurt your team if you are absent at night.

Alright, fair enough.

Nice. I'm an avid (distance) runner, but I must ask, what event(s)?
