Some tell me how this sounds:

We could make the teams so that everyone gets picked at least once d1... 8 players in the game, we can cover that with 3 teams of 3. That way everyone d1 was at least part of a vote.

Does that make sense?

Sample team order that would satisfy this:

Marv
Kells

The reason it's very stupid (I'm in a helpful mood) is that having everyone as part of the team at some stage is not helpful in any way to having an optimal group of townies.

The reason people should want to be in a group is not because "oh look at me, i'm important and in a group and i'm part of the game", but because you're 100% sure of your own alignment so you only have 2 other alignments to get right, not 3. i.e. your chances of fucking up are slimmer by a considerable margin.

Of course in the end townies will have to vote to pass groups that they're not in, but that isn't helped by putting random people in groups, that's helped by consensus and to an extent a leap of faith.

In the specific context of this game, I like lian, Palmar likes lian, I think lian is townie. As it stands I'd want him chosen in any group proposed, and it would basically just be bad play for him not to be chosen. I'd like to say the same about me but people are generally warier of me. But I'll wear y'all down.

Okay I got ninjaed.

I just thought votes were how we would be finding scum. If Liam gets picked for three teams in a row and we're voting for the same person three times in a row, it seems, at least to me, that we're not getting as much info out of that.

I do think the default should be "no". Look, I'm not saying you shouldn't vote yes, or shouldn't allow yourself to be convinced. In fact, if everyone only voted "no" then there would be no point to voting no, because it wouldn't gain any info, right? I think that unless you have a reason to believe it's 3 townies in a team, if you're like "eugggg not sure", then you vote "no". I'm also not saying that we can't hold people accountable for "no" votes. But there will be more information if we vote no more than we vote yes. In the situation Palmer is talking about, people had legit reasons to think Dirk and Navi were town (less on Navi, but still). The fact that it's possible for a yes-vote-default system to work, doesn't mean that it's the best system. It's worth noting that Tunnel Rats eventually _did_ become a "no by default" system and we had issues where no team was passing, so I wouldn't even hold it up as an exmaple of "yes by default is good" since it wasn't yes by default. As scum I had to explicitly step in to avoid an inevitable "loss for both sides because nobody votes in a team" due to the way the rules were structures.

It doesn't matter. If lian is townie, we want him in the group.

From what i remember skimming through the other resistance games (not recently i might admit), voting was used later on when seeing what groups were successful/failed and extrapolating from there.

You're not going to learn anything from people nayvoting groups which doesn't have their strongest townreads in them. Any sensible townie (and ergo mafia) will be nayvoting groups which don't have their townreads in them.
