We had PMs, IRC, Blogs..etc It was up to the players to protect themselves. oh course, one game occurred where the mafia qt was infiltrated by town. Later games I made fake qts where mafia members chose town player names for their usernames. These unfortunately never got leaked. People eventually learned how to make qts private and host started creating them for mafia teams themselves.
