Setting a precedent as dumb town to later be willfully malevolent is also a clever way to play scum. Once again, a threat of a lynch, possibly followed up with an actual lynch if the player acts SCUMMY rather than dumb is a great way to restrict that behaviour.
I'd rather we only lynch scum. Preventing town from doing stupid crap and playing obviously towny is a great way of ensuring scum gets lynched.

He didn't post a townie thing. He posted a dumb thing. I don't think there's anything townie about it and he deserves to be pressured for it. However you seem to disagree? Pressure votes are bad on general principle?
Him being unable to rectify it is not a reason not to pressure him on D1. There's still plenty of reasons to do that as either scum or town. I'd love to pressure him into posting more and stepping up his game, allowing me to get a better read.
Chastising him by saying "you played dumb, bad boy. Go stand in the corner" is really really weaksauce and nobody will pay any attention to that shit.
How the hell are you interpreting my post as a proposal for a lynch? I think he made a bad move. Bad moves are made by either scum or town. His announcing his bad move to the world, just makes him either bad town or bad scum. I would rather find out which than ignore him and be left with the same bloody question later on. Pressure is a good way to do that.

You don't seem to be honestly trying to determine whether he is town or mafia. You say that he is either bad town or bad mafia, instead of attempting determine which one is more likely. Obviously you can't know his alignment based on a single thing, but it is evidence pointing one way or another and certainly not to equally strongly at two directions at once.

No... as town the move was bad, the announcement good. As scum, the move was good (or neutral), the announcement bad.
That makes you bad scum or bad town. Given that I don't believe you have payed much attention to the thread, you might not have known that votes were secret, thus giving an explanation for scum to announce their vote.
There are other (less likely) explanations for a scum motivation for announcing your vote truthfully, but going into the wifom of your actions is not very useful. Suffice it to say there are explanations both ways and it can only BENEFIT town to force you into the spotlight posting your reads and preventing you from throwing your vote away again.

This is pretty persuasive. I also feel like the "don't threaten to lynch dumb townies for being dumb" comment is something scum would generally not say. Carolus is currently my #1 mayor candidate.
I feel like acrofales is my second candidate. That's because he seems to have been posting a lot more genuinely than mattchew, who seems to not have transitioned entirely out of the troll phase of the game. I also find it more likely that a scum player would jump into the race with a troll campaign like Matt did than with a serious one like acro. I'm not concluded one way or the other on mattchew's alignment but I think acro has a lower chance of being scum.
That said, now that we know that the heir isn't the second place candidate, our opinions about the second-towniest candidate don't matter as much anymore.

I also disagree with you, there are plenty of completely neutral topics of discussion. This, in fact, is one of them. It's a meta-discussion on how to play this game. Easy to pick a side and be contrary about it. It can even serve to make the person you're discussing it with look bad. I am therefore stepping out of this discussion as continuing it serves no purpose except to derail the thread from the vote at hand. If you're townie, you will stop this discussion too.
