Additionally, if they don't attempt to pick a role at all, they end up as vanilla townie. 1/3 of the game in PYP1 was vanilla because of a combination of these 2 reasons.

Question: How does the Assassin interact with Traitors and Moles? Are they both considered "green" until they have been converted?

Actually, what are Moles considered in general alignment-wise? Do they ever become red? Do they start as green? Are they always something else entirely?

I'll answer all the questions in a sec, but from the looks of this, there will be 24ish people. As mafia count, including mole(s), is visible, (but mole count is not visible) we should discuss this pregame as quite honestly I'm not fully sure how to balance it.

5 Total mafia/moles, 1 kp?
5 total mafia/moles, 2 kp?
6 total mafia/moles, 1 kp?

Given the fact that there are over twenty roles with some type of KP, I think deaths are going to come fairly quickly in this game. Even without a Serial Killer or a Compulsive Vigilante, we still have 5 roles which can kill every Cycle: Inventor, America, Kingmaker, CPR Doctor, NRA Member. Given that, my thought would be to give the mafia 1 KP. Whether 6 or 5 Mafia/Moles I don't know though.

Difficult to balance, maybe, but not impossible. It's not unheard of to account for wild variation, and smart picking is factored into the balance. If one team simply picks way better roles than the other, for example, that's a problem with team balance and not necessarily game balance.

I think the problem with balance theory here is that this format is generally largely untested, and it's also quite difficult to apply the standard game to this one. In general, I'd say to err on the side of being advantageous to town. Therefore I'd say 1KP, which will give people with roles more time to use them and also may encourage people to try to get roles as well.
