The mafia forum doesn't show up to the left, you have to go to the forums section to find it. Anyway glad you're finally getting to play, hope you have fun :D Oh and since I don't know your skill level I'll recommend you to some TL guides. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=93018

How is the meta in tlmafia? The last forum I played for a couple months the meta got unbearable, people figuring out setups simply by looking at what the mods had previously done; on that thread does anyone do smaller games like C9's? (I played on mafiascum and the wizards forum mostly in the past)

TL meta revolves around the players not so much the hosts. Much of the discussion is regarding posting habits. Say X is posting oddly, player Y will point out X is posting differently than he did when he was town so X might be not green i.e. because of the posting habits X might be SK, blue, or red.

Set up's are not usually too meta'd. I mean look at XXXV, there were NO MEDICS and three vets. I don't think anyone saw that coming. Occasionally you can look at a set up and get an idea of what the balance is like IE: How many mafia there are. You might be able to see what power roles a player prefers in a closed set up like this, but nothing is guaranteed. As far as the player meta goes like you are talking about, I don't really subscribe to it. It can be decent, but it can also ass fuck you by anyone who knows how to learn. If you look at me from when I started playing and read my first five games and tried applying that to me now you would get reamed by the skill and style differential. I think also on this forum most veteran players have an ability to change up there play style in order to remain unpredictable. So generally in games while comparing player styles you need to gauge how capable you consider that player. Have they seemed like the type that can learn and adapt moderately quickly? Well then a player meta means nothing. Anyway, I kind of ranted and am extremely tired so that probably came out borderline incomprehensible. In short, our hosts and players know how to change shit up and as far as I have experienced the closest you can get is an idea of what a player might do, and what a host might prefer. But understand that any of the experienced players/hosts can go in the opposite direction on the fly so I wouldn't trust it. On that note if anyone ever figures out a pattern in Callers set up I will personally reward them $5 on PayPal.

Unless it's a regular game (like this one), it would be hard to figure out anything close to the real setup. Also figuring out the setup isn't that important over here. Right now there is a problem with people going inactive, but it isn't that bad. Hopefully you'll enjoy it!

There are enough people involved in the setups of most games that the meta is pretty hard to figure out. If you want a smaller game, you are looking for games labeled "Mini." Those are generally games with <15 players.
