Is the under-23 age restriction common among soccer tournaments or is this more of a thing to let younger/lesser known players get their name out? Actually, it's because with the World Cup being the premier international tournament, FIFA didn't want the Olympics to steal its thunder, so they settled a compromise where it would basically be an U23 World Cup (only kind in international football) with the exception of 3 over-aged players.

Now after allowing 3 players above 23 years old to play for one team it will be even worse, Neymar or Suarez playing with juniors wont fill the stadiums which btw are going to be half empty during most of the games, like usually. U23 Egypt vs Belarus for 40 pounds ftw

U23 Egypt vs Belarus for 40 pounds ftw you're missing a lot then in 88: Romario in 96 our squad had: Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Roberto Carlos and Bebeto in 2000: Ronaldinho Messi and Tevez have played for Argentina very recently too. Although I don't really like the Brazilian team this year, all our best promising players are there: Neymar, Pato, Lucas, Ganso, Damião, Oscar. Argentina isn't there because they failed to qualify in the U20 south-american tournament

It's definitely a right call by FIFA. U don't need to have the best players of the world competing every second year, especially since there is some other major tournaments as well.

it seems to me like this tourney doesn't have a lot of playmakers, just a bunch of great forwards like neymar, cavani, suarez, etc. So i'll be curious to see as how this tourney goes. hopefully it doesn't turn into the copa america where all the teams had good forwards but terrible midfielders, which led to unattractive football and overall bad play

Neymar is a clown who loves to dive. Touch him, he dives. Sure he is a talented player yes, but wouldn't be surprised to see him transition into olympic diving and win the gold.
