Without knowing for sure, I think it has to do with the IOC members. They are elder men generally and they believe that every sport has to be physically challenging to be considered for inclusion. The inclusions since 1996 are: Beach Volley Trampoline Mountain bike was new at 1996 BMX Taekwondo Triathlon All of those demands a lot more physical activity than Golf. It is going to be interesting to see what happens with it after the 2016 games. I think that IOC is changing their opinion as soon as the current generation dries out.

Well there's curling in winter olympics and only physical thing it needs is sweeping the ice :D

Not that it is not "physical" enough but it is a very "posh" sport (and there are allready enough "posh" sports) which allready got a very good media cover. What about adding more popular sports ? Huh? surely Golf is one of the most popular sports not in the Olympic games? Also the skill needed in Golf is insane!

What about adding more popular sports, instead of sports that are played in a minority of people in a minority of countries ? Could you give examples of those popular sports? Golf was in the olympics 1900 and 1904.

If you look at golf, it has a very good media cover but it is very mostly played by rich people in rich countries. Not really what I would call a popular sport.

Thats the common image of golf, which is totally bullshit if you ask me. Sure there might be countries where golf ain't played that much, but it sure has lots of players. Not just rich people. There are Olympic sports that doesn't have universal popularity already.

I can't speak for other countries however there are golf clubs scattered all over the UK for all walks of life and not expensive at all. I would hardly class myself as posh however I have played plenty of golf in my time. I think your all caught up in stereo-types. ![]()
