I don't care who has the best fans but I can say that the enthusiasm of the Indian crowds at the commonwealth games was a massive detriment. They were completely unruly, trying to distract opponents of the Indian athletes etc. Made for a very unpleasant atmosphere when that happened.

Well, since olympics takes its own town, infrastructure is unlikely to be the problem. You are correct that there has been some nobody events happening in Brazil. I remember a WC in handball almost without people watching. That is, however, extremely easy to alleviate through ticket prices and sponsor seats.

The women lost against Montenegro due to bad luck. The last interception was french but the Montenegro was somehow able to grab the ball and got a 7m. Some games are won with luck, some are lost, but that doesn't mean anything in regards to the real quality of the french women team.

Woo, USA won basketball gold. Well, would've been embarrassment if they'd lost. :p

Yes, exactly my thoughts. Well, at least for me Winter Olympics are almost equally important, so its 2 years for me
EDIT: im actually more depressed that all the sports news will be 50% football 50% all other sports combined for the next 4 years. It was a pleasure browsing through sports sections these last 2 weeks.

Yeah I'm sure athletes are that fragile mentally lol, we should stop home crowds from cheering for their teams in a vociferous way, perhaps allow them to lighly applaud, now thats atmosphere for you.
Indian crowds are one of the best in the world, the cause a hella of a lot of noise. West indian crowds have a really cool party feel to it, should be the same with South American ones too.

Winter Olympics are kind of fun. Such a tiny affair though, at least compared to the summer Olympics.
