Haha, well I think you should keep it to the french thread, though they could need the cold water in the face. Today has been quite ridiculous for Great Britain.
We'll shut up soon and we probably won't win anything else all event hah =p
But really it's a bit night for GB athletics. In 08 we won a single gold in it, in 04 we won three, in 00 we won two, in 96 we won none, and in 92 we won two.
There's probably not many brits on this forum who've been alive to see a more successful olympics in terms of athletics achievements as a whole (1980?), let alone having a single night heralding that many wins.

What an amazing day for GB, English athletes have really stepped up to the plate and more to come. When was the last time we finished third in the medal table? Must be a very long time.

When was the last time we finished third in the medal table? Must be a very long time. according to the medal counts on wikipedia for each olympics, the last time Great Britain finished in the top 3 in medals was in the 1920 Olympics in Antwerp, Belgium, where they finished 3rd with 15 gold medals and 43 total medals behind the United States and Sweden. The British had finished 4th in the medal rankings twice since then (2008 Beijing, 1924 Paris)

wow Japan Silver and Bronze in team medleys :O

Amazing day for GB. Host nations always perform so well. I guess it's not that crazy considering how much money and effort is put into winning at home, not to mention other perks. It will be very interesting to see how Brazil does.

Man Sun Yang was so emotional after that. Smashed his own world record too.
Congratulations, you champ

he was the defending olympic champion when 1km till finish he noticed that robots-chinese athletes started to spurt he couldn't let that happen and pushed himself over his body's capacity. Fainted and went to hospital. Amazing will to victory and a very sad story at the end. I applaud to him and wish all our athletes were like him.

Hope he's able to recover and that he suffered nothing serious.
I am not amused by the Chinese-robots jab though -__- if it were he who won the race I would be giving him his due congratulations. He's a beast. Speed-walking is ridiculously tough.

I too look forward to the sprint final. Bolt didn't seem like he would do that well, but he looked super relax and easy-going in his heat first place.
