Nothing will change. There are op picks and if you are a pro player you HAVE TO learn at least 80% of them (the ones in your lane, obviously don't go learning Trist if you are a jungler), otherwise you will remain an amateur. Yes, many players picked stuff like Renagr and failed with it, but that doesn't change the fact that he was better than most of the other picks in jungle at the time. The correct answer should've been to practice him much more and not taking something else.
Sure, if you keep suckig balls with him then pick something else.

Special picks will always exist, like this was THE game where Poppy could shine. Happens once a year, enjoy it. If Keane ever reaches worlds he won't be playing Hecarim mid by then, trust me, unless the meta will extremely favor that, but then everyone else will play it.

The "OPs" are generally overrated though. Because players will always try to copy other players that have success with something without having the same skillset. And statistics proof that, on average the top picked and banned champions in LCS consistently have less than 50% win rate.

Look at Rengar's winrate in na lcs (I don't know how low it is, but definetly not good) then look how they played him. They had no idea how to use him, there were tons of instances where they ulted and did not do anything for x times in a row. Statistics won't show the true potential of a certain champion.

Even Diana and Eve, one of the most broken champs (sine s2) in their prime times had many losses.

Yeah and my point was that this potential is not being fulfilled in reality because just picking the supposedly op champion is not enough. Win rates are the most important stat of all, it is the only thing that counts in teh end. And if you lose more than you win with the most contested champions you have to ask yourself why you contest them so much.

You are right, I never understood myself either while in mechanically very unskilled regions (na) only a few dares to pick their comfort champs instead of pretending to understand [insert meta-favored champ here].

Especially mid or low tier teams in lcs, it's not like they have to learn those champs by the time world comes.

BTW to those saying that teams should play more of their comfort picks and strategies rather than copying whatever Korean team played last week - I definitely agree. And so does Flame
