Thinking about it more, I don't see group C as the group of death partly because I see LMQ as a (slight) step below the other EU/NA teams at the tournament. Something like this:
Korea >= EDG >>> China, EU, NA, TPA >= LMQ > ahq >>> wildcard
If you thing LMQ is on their level, then group C is probably the group of death, with group B being a runner up.

Group B is the group of death in my opinion because none of the teams are the favorite to advance, but they all are strong enough to advance if they were given a different group. Two teams that shouldn't be killed so early in the tournament will be killed. Personally, I'm hoping for TSM and SK for more westerners, but I really don't have much idea of the strengths of the other two teams, as I'm sure is the case for most people here. SEA isn't supposed to be a strong region and China's only good team is supposed to be EDG, so we have a chance. For me this is fairly even and strong but overall strength in it does not warrant Group of Death status - there's no korean team (a region that's arguably the strongest at the moment), from the chinese team EDG is fairly obviously the strongest and Taipei Assassins might surprise many but they are not really title contender at the moment. Actually any team from group B winning Worlds would be a big (if not huge) surprise.
Of course, but, at least from how I understand it, the group of death isn't necessarily the group with the strongest teams. If the group of death was simply a measure of "ability to win the tournament", then group A would clearly be the group of death with EDG and SSB. But this is absurd--they're both nearly guaranteed to get out of the group. In fact, every team that has a high chance to win the tournament is nearly guaranteed to get out of the group.
Since all the tier 1 teams are safe, we have to move on to the tier 2 teams to decide the group of death. Which group will kill the most tier 2 teams? Group B will kill two, group C will kill one, or two if you have a high opinion of LMQ.

So if you have 3 very strong teams and complete no-idea-probably-weak or 1 very strong and 3 strong (the way I see difference between the two) - matter of judgment.

Strongest opponent, so strongest after SHRC. And Taiwanese are still fellow Chinese for them, so there is that bias and I would not read too much into it.

Well let's see if a challenger team makes it today.

If EG loses to coast with a pair of NLB rejects (And I mean, NLB rejects. Not even making it in the first place) then it's time for everyone on EG to throw in the towel.

How Coast can have 2 koreans and european with new rules?

I believe it's because all three were in before the rules were officially announced allowing them as non-residential exemptions (Like the entirety of lomoQ)

It says players that are on the roster for a challenger team for the relegation matches are excempt.

I sort of want gambit to lose, they're too painful of a team to watch in EU LCS.
