I think it depends. Targons is the weakest active, and especially if you want to rush locket(you do against most teams), it's pretty good to just spend 500g on the upgraded gp10, sightstone and then locket.
Eye is just a lot easier to justify spending money on than the full FOTM at that point since you'll start to need the extra ward later on in the game.

Also what happened to the whole, Face of the Mountain is the most hidden OP item in the game? Late game, it's still upwards of a Giant's Belt of extra health for a key carry. Is it just that Eye of the Equinox is that good?

Or you could just not spend that money to upgrade it and get your aegis faster?!?!!? Hell you could even just rush aegis instead of ss if you are ahead.

I called Eye of the Equinox easily the best of the eyes a while ago. The stats combo/slot efficiency/ease of building are all fantastic and were the key points of FotM, not the shield. Then they also nerfed the shield at some point as well.
I'm still kind of surprised we don't see Eye of the Equinox on low econ tops, but the two ward trinkets turned out to be more important in the current meta than the additional sweeping/two extra wards.

honestly I think brace/sightstone>other stuff is probably the best way to go. and then get an eye later.
Fast locket can basically win the game for your team.

The slow is arguably more useful than the single auto worth of damage ever was. Both in saving one of your squishies from being dived, and it helping your divers get on theirs. So it's a bit disingenuous to cite the removal of the damage as a reason for not buying it.
Besides, the shield is still pretty huge... You're basically giving someone a free summoner heal, when the alternative is you having an extra ward. On the people who generally build it, after you have aegis there isn't much else you can build that increases your ability to do your job in keeping your carries alive, unless you're going to go mikaels or something.
The gold generation caps out after you have targons, so there's no reason to rush into anything else. I've started seeing a lot of people just rushing eye of equinox as their first item, which makes zero sense :p

Actually fotm does increase your gold gain because most people don't proc it on cd and it gets stacked up. Also being able to heal 4 times in a poke situation rather than 3 can help although the popularity of warlords+sota is making it a bit less desirable.

?? Literally everyone said that. The coin path is dogshit, fqc was overpowered (still very good), and fotm was nerfed. This was also before the other 2 eyes even got buffed(+fqc nerfs) so the other options were extremely bad. I mean, even in the few pro games we saw early season then (namely CS) the only eye ever built was equinox. It was the only non garbage one.
Also for toplane 800g is too much to invest into 150 health and 1 more ward without auto recharge. Just not worth. Unless youre talking lategame where it doesnt hurt as much, but even then warding trinkets scale nicely and you can just leave a slot empty (instead of sightstone) for a pink as a pesudo scan.

I don't think anybody is sad she's getting nerfed from an objective viewpoint, but I think making changes like this that could very easily knock her out of the meta is poor. She could barely jungle as it was before the snare was put in, since then she's gotten nerfed a few times and they're taking it out.

Nidalee jungle should never have been a thing. Same with Elise. The pre-6 transform characters should be lane champions. They just seem to be oppressive if they can clear. Or maybe its just junglers shouldn't have executes.
