I think DT would have a hell of a time arguing it wasn't a legally binding contract.

though if its a contract there has to be some sort of termination clause- convenience, bankruptcy, change of control, non payment, for cause, etc. that allows parties out. some of these outs are more or less required by law (from what i remember, its UCC for services/ goods, common law for the other...) otherwise the contract is invalid and non enforceable. and theres that standard i forget the name of if its only part of the contract thats invalid or the whole thing - something about if the particular clause is critical or something. you can tell my legal classes were quite awhile ago, i just do a fair amount of "document review" now. on the other hand, its possible that it was some sort of at will employment with certain terms, which is pretty common these days. still, unless its based on the deliverables structure (which presents its own set of issues) Bio still gets paid for services rendered.

Thorin did a sober analysis about some parts of this with his "break this contract" video, but most people still don't understand even a modicum of the law, or (in many ways even less) the economic. This leads to things like howling for a union (no sports league has had one with even 5 times this revenue) or blame the teams for things Riot does and blame Riot for things the teams do. NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL all have unions. They are all Player Associations (MLBPA, NFLPA etc..)

unless the lcs actually became a franchise/no-relegation system this will never happen in the lcs and i significantly doubt a catch-all players union for "esports" in general will catch on anytime soon. most realistically you might be able to convince most of the orgs to form an association with shared contract standards but the last time we did that it was G7 teams. do you even remember g7 teams? exactly

And by bringing this up you are indicating you are probably one of the various categories of blind. 1. A main issue is not player-team relations by player/team-Riot relations. This is unlike any of the above. 2. All those leagues have more players and each player makes more money. This is what funds the union. The Tom Brady case would have bankrupted a LCSPA. 3. CBAs in American sports are not the elixir you imagine them to be. Their primary effects are: A) To shield teams from anti-trust/collusion laws; B) To change the distribution of money amongst the players themselves (typically away from the best and youngest to the older and middle-skilled); and C) Impose restrictions on future players entering the league, thus increasing the tenure of current players.

You'd never be able to get all the entry level teams on the same bargaining agreement.

It would be the LCSPA, which would have an incentive to prevent the entry of new teams into the league (so it might end or limit relegation as part of its CBA) and probably try to raise the eligibility age to 18. When you look at the history of Sports unions in America (aside from baseball, which is a special case because the Supreme Court essentially legalized collusion and indentured servitude for them in the 1930s and it took dozens of court cases to undo that), they generally come about because the owners of teams realize that salaries are skyrocketing due to the competitive nature of the sport and need a CBA to implement things like the draft, salary caps, and trade restrictions. Thus, they agitate the middle class of the players to form a union, who do, because they will be better off, and you get the players union. This is very different than non-sports unions in America who make their hay by having a wide constituency of essentially interchangeable parts, who encounter banal and replicated problems (thus easily adjudicated by arbitration), and often have favorable legal environments set up for them. And, the last point, the favored legal status, is what gives many of these unions the majority of their effectiveness. Congress and the California Legislature are unlikely to pass some sort of E-Gaming Representation act like they do for teachers or contractors.

Then Rookies and new players are screwed too because they have salary maximums etc. But the average 2nd line or 3rd line player is making bank since the NHLPA has become a thing.

- Toaster (aka Gakis, https://twitter.com/gakis_lol) joins Origen as adc while xPeke moves to sub. - Zhergoth joins Origen as top sub. - Memento (formerly Nerv which lost in EUCS) joins Roccat as jungler, Airwaks to sub. - Forgiven joins H2k as sub. Struggling teams are grabbing what they can get before roster locks. I am really glad about Memento to Roccat. He did pretty well on Nerv I thought and Airwaks performance lately was just intolerable.

TL added a bunch of new subs across TLA and TL: P0Z and Viper for top, Morning for jungle, Bobqin and Arcsecond for mid, Jynthe for ADC, Painless for support. NRG added Mancloud for mid. C9 added Zeyzal for support. No sign of Fixer for P1, so I wonder if they couldn't get him registered in time or maybe the site's just not done updating.

So you think TL would sell the players (minus piglet) and the spot? I'd assume both them and C9C would keep their players and sell the spot. Unless Riot is overturning the sister team rule, which I find improbable and unlikely
