To be fair in normal sports it's not that rare for a ex-player to coach better players. If something very jungle specific came up you can defer to saint and have the 3 theory craft it out.

Would make a lot of sense to have 4 Koreans for communication reasons.

True, but it's rare that a player that used to be one of the best in the world at his position and spoke mad trash about other people at his position and then becomes coached by them.

They can't go for an actual Korean, because both Procxin and Ninja ain't foreigners. So you'd imagine that ADC should be someone like LOD, simply because of the NATIVE TALENT.

A bit underwhelming, I was hoping they could grab Flawless or T0M or something. Better than Crumbz at least.

TV rights for BPL are 8 billions worthy. Given that Premier League is lightyears ahead of LCS, but still.

As gung ho as I am about esports' growth in real world money is, that's only part of this story. A very important thing to remember about ESPN's deals like these is their desperation to retain cable subscribers. In general, we should already kind of know how badly networks hate the cord cutting trend, given the absurd amounts of money thrown at any form of live competition. As the theory goes, sports/competition is the last thing remaining in this world that people still strongly prefer to see as scheduled, as opposed to later on demand and with ads skipped. This is very likely a bubble that will eventually pop and have huge ramifications on both networks and traditional sports leagues in the US that are already using this influx of cash, but that's another discussion. This applies extraordinarily moreso to ESPN, given how their business model works. They rely heavily on cable subscribers. I don't know how it works outside of the US, but here, our cable TV bill is largely a composition of a bunch of different fees going to each network. IIRC, most of these fees are about a dollar or less, but ESPN stands out at ~$6.61 per month per cable subscriber as of last year. That's a little over 79 bucks from you over the course of a year, if you have a cable tv subscription whose package includes ESPN. It's estimated that there were 92 million such homes last year, for an estimated revenue of 7.28 billion off of just subscriber fees for ESPN. And it's probably over 60% of their total revenue (it was over 60% in 2014). To me, it's continuation of what's basically a desperation bid by ESPN to try anything to slow down cord cutting. It's a compliment in the sense of, they think that esports is a growing destination for eyeballs worth taking a bet on. Would it be a successful wager? I dunno... The current base of esports followers primarily already watch via the internet, and it's predominantly a generation already prone to cord cutting. So it's a question of catching on with the outsiders who are the sort to probably keep a cable subscription. If the deal's long enough such that the per year hit isn't all that much relative to their current expenses (multi-billion per year for some other leagues...), I suppose that the influence it would need to have on retention wouldn't need to be that great for it to break even.
