wow lol. that was quick. I guess put that one down for another 'get into LCS but never finish a split'. strange though after they apparently gave him a lot of authority on the roster.

1K rent 600-800 food rest incidentals, share of furniture (which costs money), utilities, etc. why are you counting food, utilities, and such? it says nothing of the sort there. it says $2000 for HOUSING. It's called room and board, that's what housing can typically cover in contracts. Utilities are clearly counted in the contract, furniture would be worth something (see difference between renting a furnished and empty property). Food was a mistake, though typically you are allowed to count that in. There's a separate portion stating that you get $35/day on food (which is pretty good, though I'm unsure if that applies to travel only). So we're kinda equally wrong. You seem to have accidentally hit the caps button. the caps are just used for emphasis. you seem like a smart guy so I'm gonna guess its just you being snarky for some reason lol. if so, plz stop . but just in case you're not, im not meaning to yell over the internet! i've never seen housing include food before. in any of the colleges i've attended/applied to and when I went to boarding school. if its listed as room and board thats when it typically includes some kind of meal plan or food costs. idk if you consider it the same but the terms room/board and housing are used differently for distinct purposes from what i've seen. I mean, just from the term itself room & board = room & food. housing = housing. and yes I seem to have missed the 35/day which is pretty good considering that's enough to eat out at least twice if you wanted to. not bad at all. but my original point was that 2k for housing just sounds hilarious and it still does to me. especially when I've lived in similarly expensive areas (NYC/Boston/DC) for 30-50% of that with plenty of space and other good stuff (utilities, amenities, etc.) now I don't exactly have an opinion on the contract itself, it was just something funny I saw and mentioned. Y'know i thought you were krnandnman (sp.) and i was confused where he went but it turns out it really is you, didn't read the sig. Yeah, for college and stuff you typically get charged separately because college is annoying and expensive and tries to disguise that. generally in contracts (to my knowledge) you lump room and board benefits under housing. 10k monthly divided by 5... that's how it works out. You can argue the mansion could easily house 10 or something, but if they're just dividing that's how it works out. Upon reflection, the confusing element to me is that there are probably more than 5 (the contract dates to Jan 2015 so you've got the 5 starters plus Huhi and a few subs plus whatever) but there's probably some legal mumbo jumbo that lets them allocate the value of benefits in this way legally. Hard to say if 2K really makes sense or is a fair price but hey valuation of anything is more of an art than science. I don't know much much thought players are putting into decisions. One angle is this: you have basically all living expenses paid for so you can game with some cool guys and compete at the highest level to thousands of fans. Each year you take home a few thousand bucks if you aren't financially stupid. That's pretty nice. At my school, RA's got housing free and a small monthly stipend (maybe a few hundred bucks a month). So it's kind of a similar deal (I'd prefer progaming to RA though). Also contracts are kind of a minimum/theoretical thing in lots of cases (like my offer letter says 3 weeks PTO, employee manual has a formula that explains how I accrue it) but in reality I take off however much within reason.
yea finally committed to using a slightly less garbage name.
oh in that case my bad because I don't have much experience with contracts. from what I remember, the CLG mansion has a bunch of their teams living there? correct me if I'm wrong though. I just remember them referring to it as the CLG campus or whatever.
I agree that the contract seems decent though for someone who isn't completely pro yet. puts into context how crazy the ember contracts are right now.

Little awkward as Brokenshard is the one that put the player roster together afaik.

There's crazy variation in how much pro/ semi-pro players get paid right now but we can probably agree that ember is waaaaay overpaying. There are ways to structure compensation that reduce exposure to the owners and motivate the players. IMO giving them really nice digs and benefits, spending some $$$ on coaches and weighing compensation extremely heavily towards results would be the way to go-- this is a CS team and for some reason they basically assume they're LCS worthy and being paid for that.
Now, if you had a roster of Korean pros who had really sick offers from other teams it makes sense to pay a little more base, but for a team made of recycled parts (no offense to the players) it doesn't make much sense.
Yeah, my new thought was CLG has way more than 5 people so the 10K/5 for 2K/ person doesn't make sense since there have got to be more than 5 people living there, but I guess it must be a legal approach. Either that or CLG was really stupid.
And yeah RIP Brokenshard.

get fired after 1 month and assembling the roster gg.
|
That's a hell of a turnaround from 'he can have all the authority he needs' to 'ok, he's outta here' And yea, after assembling the roster? At least Raz was around for that.
|
IMO the reason CS teams have such a huge variance is also the amount of "work" they expect from their players.
Majority of CS teams are essentially made up of teenagers who play solo queue 99% of the time, and then play random tournament/series games for points to try and make it into relegation tournament.
I'm pretty sure Ember is looking for full time pro players for their CS team, not solo queue stars who randomly play together.

actually 3 if you count his tenure as a toplaner

Honestly I'd take Kiwi over Shiphtur. At least Kiwi tries to do something sometimes. Ideally get rid of both.

So it turns out Ex Nihlo was funded by Martin Shkreli, also Ex Nihilo are owed money.
I don't think they'll be getting it

That's not how it works all the time, and doesn't cover foreign CS players. It wouldn't be so awful, if the players set-up their own LLC, and put a lot of their expenses as business expenses as individual contractors. But, I'm pretty sure the upfront cost of doing so, along with yearly fees, and the knowledge to do so are outside of the player's knowledge-base.
