The outcome won't be good regardless. I feel a bit bad for Azubu, they didn't have legal ground but from a business perspective, I'd be peeved as well.

The moral stance was simply that it takes away opportunity from KeSPA/Faker (who knows how much he actually gets from it). Then again, Azubu simply went silent and didn't do anything PR-wise, so now it's full-blown blame on them.

Like there's literally no point to it. The companies involved disagree (Twitch, Azubu), the player himself doesn't want it (Faker, pending official statement when he wakes up), and the developer is against it (and will both issue a DCMA immediately in response AND change their ToS)...so uh.

But Reddit apparently likes to TAKE IT TO THE MANNNNN~

What's probably going to end up happening is Riot will probably implement some kind of opt-out to hide your games from their API so now no one can spectate other people's games unless you're on their friend's list or the game is "featured" on the client front page. That SpectateFaker guy's an idiot who probably just ruined it for everyone.

Which should have been implemented from Day 1.

Reddit is just being retarded.

If someone wrote a bot to auto spectate and stream some random low elo player's games every time he played whenever he played, Reddit white knights will be all up in arms about harassing and bullying said noob. But because it's Faker and because Azubu sucks, it's apparently ok to stream someone's games without their permission.

What's probably going to end up happening is Riot will probably implement some kind of opt-out to hide your games from their API so now no one can spectate other people's games unless you're on their friend's list or the game is "featured" on the client front page. would that have mattered in this specific instance? I don't think Faker really gives a shit and only "said he agrees" in this instance because he doesn't give a shit and his coach asked him to say that. His stream reeks of contractual obligation, I mean if he spoke english it might be as bad as when Kolento first signed with c9 and you could tell he loathed streaming.

Like Faker has streamed 7 times this month as of the 22nd, and he randomly chose the day that thread got posted to stream? seems unlikely to me, I think Riot is, for the better of their and their business partners business, protecting Azubu's investment as a show of good faith to future investors

Faker meanwhile is just doing what his coach told him to do, and has no personal interest whatsoever

idk that's my read on the situation

I find that highly unsurprising.

Oh i'm 90% sure that Faker hasn't said shit and probably doesn't give a crap about SpectateFaker stream. The issue would be the precedent this whole situation can set for future streamers. I think that's probably Riot's #1 or #2 concern based off Marc Merril's tweets.

Realistically, the big issue behind this as far as Faker and Azubu are concerned are the contractual and business aspects of this whole thing. Faker, as far as I can guess, probably signed a contract granting Azubu exclusive streaming rights. The SpectateFaker stream directly undercuts those rights and makes them much less valuable to Azubu. I can imagine Faker (or whoever represents his financial interests) would want to protect those rights since it's part of what makes him "valuable." Similarly, Azubu wants the value they were promised. Riot also probably has a stake from this perspective too since if streamers are worth more $$$ for sponsors, that indirectly grows the scene which is obviously good for Riot.

Faker probably said nothing, KeSPA on the other hand, very likely. The entire exclusive deal is with KeSPA

The only reason Riot is getting involved is because 1. Azubu pays a good deal for rights and 2. to prevent Twitch monopoly so they don't get the upper-hand in the long-run of negotiations.

honestly, the whole deal on Reddit just annoys the shit out of me. If instead of spectating Faker the guy was running a SpectateQTPie stream Reddit would be up in arms screaming for a lynching. The whole thing only gained so much traction because people (justifiably) hate Azubu. But regardless of how shitty Azubu may be, there's still a legitimate argument being made for their general case that's more or less being completely ignored/disregarded by the Reddit hivemind.

No they wouldn't, because if viewers made the conscious decision that they would rather watch a stream with like no music, no commentary and no first person view of qtpie than to watch qtpie himself, they'd just be downright stupid although in the end its up to them. This has nothing to do with hating on Azubu. Its more like all the reasons being presented about e-stalking and privacy or whatever is completely hypocritical since Riot lets you spectate anyone in a game in challenger within their own client anyways. All the twitch channel is doing is making it more convenient because I'd rather have a stream on in an internet tab than to watch it through the spectator mode. Besides you can't be taking away business because I bet most viewers have no idea when Faker is streaming anyways and they'd probably just watch something else on twitch.

I mean, yes, though that's our assumption. Just because Azubu is failing to capitalizing on properly marketing Faker via stream doesn't justify someone to weaken the value of the deal for the sake of one company's poor form in marketing.

Then a simple solution to this would just to not stream when faker is actually livestreaming but I feel like Riot and all the people involved want the whole channel shut down altogether. At least put a notice on the stream when he is livestreaming I guess. If a player's personal broadcast isn't more appealing than a spectator mode of the same match that includes a delay and an automated camera then dunno, must be a pretty boring stream.

So I tried playing this game again after not playing it at all for almost a year... god it makes me feel so depressed that I'm like silver level now compared to where I was. I wish I had just kept playing

anyway, just wondering if runes/masteries changed at all this season or if all my S4 pages are still pretty solid.

in order for teams to monetize their stuff they have to have effective control over the asset, and the twitch stream is an obvious breach. it doesn't matter what the current rules are, riot will change them and work with partners to change them so that stuff like this won't happen. otherwise teams can't effectively monetize and deal with less popular streaming platforms.

azubu already made an official restreaming deal with a chinese website. this is one of their ways of getting more out of their kespa deal. they probably won't, but are perfectly capable of making a similar deal with twitch. a spectator stream would directly compete with that potential deal as well.

Masteries are pretty much the same, runes changed a bit. If you need a cheatsheet you can use this for runes and this for masteries.

I just wanted to point to this because it came up on my FB feed and shows one reason why we might be seeing mobility creep. Because this guy either is massively overrating Brand in those situations or (IMO more likely) massively underrating Leblanc/Mobility in teamfights/objective control. Dodging skillshots and jumping walls is the epitome of the modern teamfight.

I think Riot comes up with "cool ideas" first and balance doesn't enter the equation until way later. The Ahri speed buff after firing a q on top of the other changes was so stupid.. First time I casted a Q on Ahri after that change I laughed out loud at how big the movement speed boost was. Gain like 100+ movespeed for free, suddenly nearly impossible to hit with any skill shot in a reasonable manner because her movespeed is rising and falling like crazy and it's not intrinsically easy to predict how that affects player movement.

Which I think was the point, but they don't understand all the balance implications stuff like this causes, they just make a change because thematically they like it then sort out the mess they created later. Which also explains stuff like Zed, Yasuo, the buff/nerf Rengar lever shortly after release, etc.

As already mentioned, the problem with mobility creep is it often comes with minimal tradeoffs. For example Ahri. Mana costs all quite reasonable, does true damage, good AP ratios and base damage across the board, does AOE damage. What's the tradeoff? I'm not seeing any.

what about blem or similar people who are constantly being streamed on for example QTpies stream, can he use his privacy rights (" e stalking") to shut down streams?

If not, is this protection only for LCS players? Other players are not worth protectiing?

Something a lot of people continually overlook is that Riot has in their ToS about streaming a clause that basically says "We reserve the right to pick out what individuals are doing and say 'stop doing that'."

So the Reddit circlejerk about how Riot is being unfair and enforcing their rules unevenly doesn't even matter, because Riot maintains the right to basically do whatever they want with streams. They can shut you down because of Faker's contract with Azubu, they could even shut you down because they don't like your face, it doesn't matter, you can't do shit about it.

QT pie is streaming his gameplay, that is the goal of his stream. SpectateFaker is all about streaming Faker's gameplay. They're very different things because people don't go to QTpie's stream to watch Blem's gameplay.

My bet is that Riot will just take the easy way out and add into the ToS that spectating mode cannot be streamed without the consent of the 10 players in the game, but FP streams can. It even makes a kind of sense: spectating is supposed to be you watching, not you watching and a huge crowd looking over your shoulder.

Dunno if this screws over Trick2g, I've never been able to watch his content for > 10 seconds, but who really cares?

That whole argument is stupid in my opinion about the 9 other players bullcrap. Being in a game with a streamer is far different than setting up a stream to automatically capture your games and watch them via the spectator function. No player in League history has had any authority to get a streamer to turn off their stream because they don't like their gameplay being shown to a wider audience. There's no leg for anyone to stand on, ESPECIALLY with Riot allowing you to view top level gameplay in their own client. Having your gameplay shown for anyone to view is okay, setting up a stream to only show one person's gameplay that's not their perspective is apparently stalking, according to Riot. The funny thing is Riot can make up whatever bullshit rule they want and enforce it and not really anything that anyone says makes them change it. I do expect a lot of backlash towards Riot either way, which is dumb because the "noble champion" of the cause is a total attention whore with not much real world sense.

tl:dr Riot does what they want, and they can put a stop to the Faker spectate stream if they want to (which they probably do).

With SKT now politely requesting that the stream stop, Reddit's opinion is starting to turn against the SpectateFaker guy a bit. People starting to ask questions about whether or not the donations are actually going to charity, noticing the dude has contradicted himself constantly, that sort of thing.

I'd bet within 48 hours the hivemind is demonizing him.

Reddit is too busy being hung up on the use of the word re-streaming to have an actual discussion about it anyway, since that's the important detail.

I think the best solution Riot have is just to restrict spectating to featured games and friends only or to offer an opt-out for spectator mode.

When people were talking about Brand, I think he's mostly fine, and that the issues he faces currently don't have to do with his core design but rather the meta/FotM picks.
(His core design has a major weakness in that he's harder to tweak than champions with more utility, but it doesn't come into play as long as Brand can coast along.)

+ Show Spoiler [Shit's long] +
He's an AoE burst mage relying on combos, with some added DoT damage that make him dangerous if he can keep applying his passive in longer fights :
- He's limited by his longest cooldown if he wants to combo to full strength (unless one cd can get to half the longest, but iirc it isn't the case).
- He loses a lot of effectiveness if he can't 100-0 people (or mostly).

The second point makes him midgame-centric, while the average game goes pretty late atm (less so than in s4, and the potential for CLG.eu turtlefests is lower, but still long), so he's got less value than mages who remain effective even late (otoh Cass likes it for example), so it's not ideal for him.
Another thing is that he has animations/delays on his spells, so dashes, quick/instant hard cc, etc. harm him, and higher becomes an issue (LB misses a chain on Vayne? She can W away. Brand misses his Q? Midgame he can try and juke/stall/make her run by blowing ult/etc. but the latter it goes, the more likely Vayne is to just kill him before the next cast, or lifesteal enough to survive it).

The dps argument ties into his range too (and indirectly into his combo mechanic): his ideal single-target combo is EQW, otherwise he loses either the stun or a bunch of damage.
But his E has shorter range than most point'n'click dashes and he's frail. In lane he can use it to poke Zed or Fizz, but latter on he's straight-up dead if he enters their range. Early on he can survive Xin or Irelia dashing on him, but very quickly he's cc'd before he can follow-up his E with Q, and die during said c/c.
In the midgame you can more or less reasonably expect to brawl at mid range during skirmishes, trying to stay close waiting for a cd, chasing a bit, etc. but it becomes much harder. When people group, squishies have a frontliner who makes it hard to E them, which is less likely during roams.

LB can use her short-cd ultimate to poke too for example, and her ranges are less of an issue because Q has basically no cast-time and W's return is instant (nigh-instant cc like Polymorph or quick stuff like Charm wrecks that, though).

That doesn't mean he's bad, obviously, since midgame is his thing, that's when he's strong, and it's normal that he falls off later.
However, basically losing E and relying on Q (then no cc) or W (harder to hit because of the delay and lower range) to break Banshee's, poke people, etc. hurts him more than champions like Ziggs/Syndra/Xerath/Orianna who either have lower cooldowns or don't sacrifice defense/cc. That's the most awkward for me in Brand's late game, because otherwise E can make a fine 5.5s 35% slow to peel for your AD, his damage is still enough to threaten squishies in conjunction with his allies, and when he can hit his poke it hurts (and the slow makes follow-ups easier).

TL;DR: Do you poke/100-0 people often on non-support lategame Annie? Nope, but you still have initiation as a strength. Brand has utility and moderate damage poke, it gets a bit hard for him because of range and his need to keep spells for combos though.
He's overshadowed by champions with lower burst, higher dps and more importantly easier to use poke like Xerath, but that's tied to the trend of games going longer with a bunch of stand-offs around objectives, not to Brand himself.
Cant take LMS hipsters serious.

Everything you said is pretty much true, but it can distilled even more simply. Brand was nerfed back when he was a dominating presence, when mid lane was Annie/Brand/Malzahar. Now, with absurd power creep in mid and stupid shit like LeBlanc every game, Brand is incredibly lackluster. He needs his nerfs reverted and maybe lower mana costs on top of that.

Brand was simply balanced for an extremely different iteration of the game.

Trick has sub wars involving teams of his subs, so I doubt it.

Moreover, they're more likely to set it to 5 players (or half the players). Makes it easier to reach that requirement and if you're spectating a ranked team you're friends with, say, it should still be fine.

Reddit is too busy being hung up on the use of the word re-streaming to have an actual discussion about it anyway, since that's the important detail.

I think the best solution Riot have is just to restrict spectating to featured games and friends only or to offer an opt-out for spectator mode.

Tryndamere retweeted Snoopeh's suggestion of this so you can be sure that an option to opt-out is now on their minds.

But seriously, Riot's just going to change their ToS and add like 1 clause to their streaming policy. They can already shut down this fucker's stream because copyright and the rights are reserved.

Brand's mana costs ARE rather prohibitive and would be a better place to give extra power as opposed to increasing his burst potential (which can be rather ridiculous AoE if everything comes together; his base numbers are strong by themselves). I'm not too big a fan of reverting damage nerfs on him since he can still dominate lanes against shorter range opponents (see: not Xerath ranged opponents), and especially against melee.

Actually, Brand's damage has only been nerfed once -

V1.0.0.125:

Conflagration
Range reduced to 625 from 675.

Pillar of Flame
Base damage reduced to 75/120/165/210/255 from 80/125/170/215/260.

And it was a very minor nerf. Brand's burst seems lackluster now because of, again, power creep - newer heroes simply do that much more damage. In addition, the rising popularity of MR runes and MR items (flat MR glyphs, Athene's) coincided with his nerfs which made his burst seem lower than it is. To be clear, I don't think Brand's burst is too high right now, and wouldn't mind a slight increase.

What really killed Brand was when his E got nerfed 50 range, significantly limiting his potential against newer champions. Previously, he dominated opponents like Annie by just E-Wing for massive damage. Today, it's impossible for him to lead with E without putting himself at significant risk, forcing him to lead with W/Q, which are much more unreliable, especially with the rise of League of Mobility.

There was a brief period when Brand was played as a poke mage by maxing W/Q and taking advance of Rylai/Liandry, but again, mana costs proved too prohibitive for Brand to take the role of a consistent poke mage, even with how overpowered Athene's was - it simply made other characters better.

Brand was played in an age where there was hardly anyone with blink/dashes in midlane, whereas today, almost all the popular ones have multiple sources of mobility, through either speed buffs or outright blink/dashes. As such, a high mana cost skill-shot reliant mage is simply unviable, and Brand needs a better way to point-and-click.
