Gwang-Jin "Piglet" Chae made his debut against Cloud 9 today in the North American LCS, taking over for sub KEITHMCBRIEF after a successful 2-0 first week. With a mountain of hype behind him, fans were looking forward to a strong showing from the former World Champion. Unfortunately, Piglet ultimately fell far short of the hype - finishing 0/3/2 on Sivir with a nearly 100 CS deficit to opposing ADC Sneaky at points during the game.
Piglet revealed in a tweet an hour ago that he played the game with no masteries - putting him at a severe disadvantage in the game. It would appear to be an accident, though it is currently unknown what led to this mistake. Such a critical error is surprising coming from a former World Champion, no matter the circumstances.
Coach Peter Zhang explained further:
However, he maintained in a later tweet that "even Piglet have masteries, we still lose," pointing to C9's superior draft, and promised this wouldn't happen again.

there is absolutely no excuse as a professional in a competitive activity to not check these things before a match. as a professional, you play to win, and if you are negligent about these things it reflects very poorly on yourself, your teammates, your team, your sponsors, your fans, and the game itself.
and to say 'we would have lost anyway' is a strange counterfactual to make.

Seems like the official rule for that is you have to call for the remake before you see an enemy champion (according to doublelift's stream)

you shouldn't be in the position where you even have to call for a remake in the first place because to have that situation is still utterly incompetent.

Not the first time something like this has happened, and it won't be the last. People get caught up in the pre-game chatter and forget these things. Shame he only noticed when the remake was no longer allowed.
And yeah, like the coach said, c9 would probably win anyway. At least they accept it!

I do feel bad for Piglet, but hopefully he can redeem himself tomorrow.
I feel like this whole thing about masteries is going to become a good joke later on.

That's quite generous. You made the mistake, so being able to get a remake is nice on the part of Riot.
I don't see why Marmy would expect a restart, since unless you've had a bug or something where for some reason you can't select masteries, there's no excuse.

Until you have played at that level, under that pressure, you have no right to call someone incompetent for a simple mistake. Seriously, not a big deal. The Kalista pick was really smart, C9 is a top tier team, not a big deal they lost.
