Alternatively, you use it while they're already locked down, or in the direction they're running to to cut their retreat. But you need someone to initiate, which isn't reliable in soloQ, or you need to somehow flank, which is also made harder since you're as slow as Anivia. Of course playing against a Xerath the game that made me check was part of it (he was really bad, and admitted to playing him for the first time, but the silly damage was enough when our team stood still), but having my ult cancelled three times against a Caitlyn (first I got cc'd rooted while she moved so the animation stopped, then I lost vision during the animation so it stopped again and finally she flashed out during the animation and it stopped for the 3rd time. I ult'd their Zyra instead out of spite at that point). In cases like that, against long range, you have to flank too. Hence why I concluded the post with "gotta work on the positioning". | ||

The solution is almost always Spooky Ghosts. Spooky Ghosts was even buffed recently so its much more efficient for the AP based supports that need a pick. 80 AP, 10% CDR, 6% move speed and its active for 2400 gold is nothing to sneeze at. My core for AP supports whom i don't want to transfer into talisman tends to be FQQ, Sight, Spooky, Zhonya/DFG, defensive. DFG because i will have a mid laner and that will amplify them (and all other magic damage on the team) and because cap is so expensive. Zhonya if i need the active otherwise a strict defensive item is probably better. With Spooky going into the mid game you can exert a lot of pressure (and ensure snowballs) which you cannot do with any other item. | ||

 I tried her mid this game because neither Orianna nor Viktor could have done much about Xerath (and Cait and Zyra on top of it meant as Viktor ulting = suiciding because of range) but I usually play her top anyway. | ||
