after not playing adc for months until practicing 4-5 games in teambuilder this week (literally 0 ranked adc games in s4) and probably never having a greater than 50% winrate on any adc ever; here is the result of my first 10 ranked games with cutlass-shiv tristana.

obviously my competition is terrible and i'm experiencing some positive variance, but adc has always been my worst role and there is a stark contrast between my performance here and previous attempts at the position.

Things like arguing about game theory 99% of the time has no place in this thread. Quite frankly, trying to apply some form of rigorous "academic" analysis is futile because you have to make so many assumptions your final conclusion is crap. Models and theories have a time and place and are a cute way of doing thought experiments. Thought experiments are still useless if they're completely divorced from reality.

Cutlass Shiv Tristana is just such a nice flowing build, no real big buys you can always spend your gold when you back, and cutlass is like perfect gold amount for first back. BF first is always so close to getting it but can't quite afford it and trying to stay in lane to get the last bit of gold always seems to end badly.

Even if it isn't 100% optimal/needed the build flows so well that it seems to always do decently, in my experience.

I'd agree that Shiv + Cutlass with a smooth midgame is nice for Tristana, but it doesn't completely skip her crap midgame. You add a few hundred damage in terms of burst and a tiny bit of AD, but you're probably still going to be weaker than the enemy AD who has AD scaling on his/her spells. :/
