Travis just needs to talk like he enjoys it. He always sounds like he just reads something from a piece of paper and isnt really bothered with it at all.

He always talks like it's a personal conversation rather than an interview whenever he speaks with someone from clg, nick allen etc. Makes the interviews far more entertaining tbh.

I dont really know what these guys are on aboiut, I'd say the average sports broadcast kicks the shit out of the average eSports broadcast in terms of value, commentary, entertainment, and production value.

For example, I could recite the entire call from the tying goal in an Oilers game from 2007, I have the call itself more memorized than the play however remarkable it was.



I've seen some equally remarkable, equally epic eSports moments, but none of them stick with me the same way. None. Thing is, my sports list could go on and on and on.

The thing for me is... why are we okay with not being able to compete with real sports? Why do we relegate ourselfs to a category not as good like some teenage girl who lacks self confidence?

Ofcourse TV broadcasts have better production values... but shouldn't that quality of content be the goal?

Of course. By the years, maybe eSports will catch up. But just think of the commentators; Deman has experience from CoD, Jatt is a former player with no experience at all, Joe Miller has some experience aswell, but it's minimal compared to being on TV. The standards for what you say, when you say it etc. is just so much higher because that's what regular people expect. Meanwhile i think it's new for almost everyone involved in the NA and EU LCS. Remember, Rome wasn't built in 1 day

EDIT: I also do think that the quality has gone up. Compare the Season 1 championship to LCS and you can definitely see the changes.

I don't think anyone is aspiring Esports to be below the standards of current sports, I just think the community (esports in general) has finally come to a point where watching only esports is feasible (streaming, LCS, WCS, all the tourneys now).

Now that we are able to watch it all the time, we want it to be ESPN/SkySports/SuperSports quality production and that just isn't gonna happen over night. Soooo much has changed for the better in the past few years. In 4 years we went from staying up until the wee hours of the night for 240p quality to free 720p quality with VODs, dedicated casters, schedules, interviews, recaps - all the things we love. It just takes time, and to be honest I am really impressed with how far the Esports community has come in just a few years.

Unrelated, I stepped into the SC2 thread about Khaldor's video of the popularity difference between LoL, SC2, and BW and holy moly. How did I spend so much time in those forums? I know the mods are doing the best I can but dayum.

Please TL LoL, don't let those evildoers in here!

I like Khaldor but I really didn't like that video. It seemed dishonest in a way, I can't really explain it. Sort of felt like that paper you are writing where you know your argument is a crock of shit but you've got to argue it anyway so you only include the few things that support your argument while ignoring the rest.

i dont see the problem with the singed thing

ive never thought, shit, singed is using a tactic than lets him free farm but also gives us free kills, we're screwed

fucking singed freefarms all day against almost every champ anyway, and the best result you can get is to kill him early a few times before he starts doing that
so the only difference is he gets a bit more cs early but dies more

it's whether it's actually viable which I have very very hard time believing but as I said it would be kickass if someone could make it work

Best e-sports commentary for me was when Tasteless solo-casted the first english GOM broodwar english broadcast. (The gom invitational I think...?). If I had been in a bar with some friends instead of in front of a computer in the early morning that would easily have taken #1 sports moment.

Random but after reading you guys talk about lo3 I tuned in because I thought it might be interesting since a western team won against China and holy shit Synderen interview skills ftw. He speaks better english than any NA LCS Pro I've heard during the season. Zero "like like like" and so articulate. Scandis OP

I don't follow Dota 2 but isn't iG the reigning TI champ, how did they end up 8th in a 8 team Tournament on Hometurf :o

As far as casters go Kobe and Jatt are MILES above everyone else. Rivington yells for no reason when there's nothing going on and uses phrases he thinks sound cool over and over and over ("on the backside"), Phreak is good but not Kobe/Jatt level, Deman's good but he really forces it when he thinks he's right, Joe Miller is awesome but also a bit argumentative at times. Montecristo and DoA are acceptable level as a pair.

I sometimes wish I pursued casting instead of going to get my doctorate because I'd blow everyone but Kobe and Jatt out of the water.

Vs a champ that singed can be even with or beat pre6 he doesn't need to proxy farm. I think this strategy is best used when counter picked vs say vlad, or jayce.
