For good reason. (this is not a french rant, it's equally bad if the team talks in russian, german, spanish, whatever) I often report people for talking in another language, myself, if they keep doing it after i tell them to speak english. What? That seems incredibly dumb, I mean a lot of people use others who speak a different language as and excuse for failing themselves, I know it seems they are incredibly troll at times, and I have experienced having to play with such trolls. Still it seems excessive to report someone just because they wont talk in english, how do you know whether they are flaming or not? I mean maybe they dont even know english? It doesn't have to do with winning or losing. If they refuse to talk english, they refuse to communicate with their team. With is a reportable offense last time I checked. They talked to the team in English in both games...

what if they only speak french and you refuse to communicate with them because you can't speak french
hm?

Okay, I give up. You win.

Speaking in foreign language isn't bannable offense, but it is rude and is going to piss people off. (I am assuming this was on NA)

It doesn't have to do with winning or losing. If they refuse to talk english, they refuse to communicate with their team. With is a reportable offense last time I checked. I don't arbitarily report people that talk a word or two in whatever language, but if they keep doing it after I tell them to speak English, or at least do calls in an understandable way, they should be reported. There's ways to communicate even without English, and I acknowledge those (pinging, "mia", and whatnot), but some people simply refuse to do that, and I report those without a second thought. And with that, I consider myself lenient even. I know some people report just straight up talking in another language, even if it wasnt bothering anyone. If that Frenchie tolkien was talking about wants to not get banned, he should talk english, is all im saying. Go tribunal! lol weird, some of the best dota pub games I've played noone has said a word. He shouldn't be banned for not talking english, I didn't read anyone specifically saying please speak english unless I missed it. Talking to his friend in their own language is perfectly fine.
Well, it's not that they are refusing to communicate, it's that they actively prevent communication. Once people start babbling in whatever language that is not english, everyone else starts to ignore the chat, including all the mia/ss calls and such.

What? Will someone clarify for me why speaking a foreign language is rude? Seriously... what the fuck are we talking about?

Travis made an "official" application to be CLG support. I don't know why he didn't use the point "I have already supported doublelift financially when he got kicked out" as a point to why he'd be a good support for dl.

It was OBVIOUSLY on EU-W server, where every French players play. They DO communicate with the team in English. They just use a few French words when they talk together. That's it. 1 month ban.
Seriously, Jothy (the banned guy) is probably one of the biggest carebear in the French LoL community. Nobody gets this ban (and he streams all his games btw).

It was on EUW lol. Not on NA. Idk why speaking french should be bannable but yeah the tribunal is shit. Everytime I got banned (twice) it was just because I had a 5-6 loss streak in ranked games. People will fill report against you even if you tryharded and didn't troll just because you had a bad day then the tribunal won't read shit and will just "punish".

What? Will someone clarify for me why speaking a foreign language is rude? Seriously... what the fuck are we talking about? Look, there's 3 people talking to each other. They all speak Greek. But two of them also speak Romanian.
Now ask yourself: What language should they speak? Greek obviously, right?
Following logic so far? Good. Then put yourself into the shoes of the guy that doesn't know Romanian when they suddenly switch to that, and he doesn't understand shit.
Now why did they switch language in the first place? They could just keep talking in Greek. So clearly, they want to say something dude 3 isn't supposed to hear. Which is rude.
And this is why it's considered rude. In a RL, non-computered, setting.

Okay, I get what you're saying. But boy, we REALLY shouldn't be saying that "speaking a foreign language" is rude. "Removing someone from a conversation" or "Cutting off communication between teammates/peers" is rude. But there's nothing about speaking a foreign language that's rude and that should be more clear here. Unless people (read: not you) ARE complaining about people just speaking foreign languages, in which case, fuck off.
All you need in solo queue is mias (at most) and pings (overall), I think. Otherwise people should just speak their language. It's a language.

They could just be more comfortable speaking their native language, and they type it quicker. And I've had time where teammates speak a different language to each other but communicate to everyone else in English. It's just personal preference. And to the RL point, I've played basketball with several Chinese students who spoke in Chinese during the game

Say I am having lunch with a friend and a friend of a friend. We are talking and w/e. Then they say something to each other in a language they know I don't understand and laugh. Did they just make fun of me? I have no way of knowing but if not then why would they switch languages?
I was assuming this was on NA. Given it was on EUW getting mad at people for speaking french is silly.

Also it was EU-W. French is not a foreign language, or if you want to say so, english is, too.
So unless he flamed hardcore in french ( i do not understand it ) he did not do anything. not even in the first game.

There's still a major difference between interacting with a friend of a friend at a restaurant, and playing a pick-up game with some random people, which playing queue in LoL essentially is.

You saying there are no French speakers in NA?

Yeah, going back over some of the shit that's been said in this conversation, I'm back to pissed off by this.
It doesn't have to do with winning or losing.

You don't have to speak English to communicate with your team. MIAs, SS, etc. and pings are universal and are the only communication aids you need in solo queue. Or, if not "need," then "should expect," because that's just fucking solo queue. There's absolutely NO reason anyone should be EXPECTED to speak English in LoL or ANYWHERE. That's not how the fucking world works. And banning people for this? Shame on you Riot, if that's the case. And shame on anyone who reports someone for speaking in a foreign language. Because there's a difference between not speaking English and refusing to communicate with your team. What the fuck.

Lol sounds like you guys have self esteem problems. You talk in language I dont understand? Clearly making fun of me.
|
I dont mind people talking in their respective languages a few words but what pisses me off are those duo queue premades that don't bother getting in voicechat together and then proceed to spam the chat with french/german/russian/spanish or whatever and it's quite obvious that they are flaming/blaming the team if things aren't going good when champ names are mentioned.

Yea I don't get it. Maybe because my parents speak Portuguese while I don't so I've never had a problem with people speaking a different language around me. Same as guys speaking Afrikaans or Zulu. I think maybe it's because a lot of people don't really get exposed to lots of languages around them?
Like honestly I'd rather have a guy flaming me in Russian or French than English purely because then I can make up what he's saying for comic relief.
