Just for those unaware, LoL and Dota are largely nonexclusive. Only a small fraction of LoL players played DotA, maybe 10%. When Dota 2 comes out both games will easily keep their player base. The question is how LoL players who never played Dota perceive the game and stick with it, which again will probably only be a small fraction.

its 100% clear that the moba with the biggest playerbase gets opportunities like these. PPL who arent playing mobas get eyecancer by watching them. Whether its LoL/HoN/DotA doesnt matter at all because only the playerbase will watch it and LoL has arguably the biggest playerbase after WoW.

Games like sc2/streetfighter work differently because you dont have to play it to enjoy watching it.

LoL will probably never take the center stage because starcraft is put quite simply, an amazing spectator sport. However if this is the route MLG needs to take to secure a larger sponsorship pool/viewership, then do it. I want to see starcraft have 5 figure prizes for first and second place.

So Sundance comes here begging that people buy pass' claiming that the prize pool will have to be lowered if a certain amount is not reached.. yet MLG finds the money to add another game, topped with a bigger prize pool than the event that is bringing in all the viewers to begin with.

Glad I did not buy that pass now.

wow that is a depressingly small prize pool? $12,500 split among 5 players is nothing, and only $5,000 for sc2? I just dont see how people can say esports is taking off when mlg, basically the premier starcraft league has such little prize money.

I don't like this decision by MLG, it seems very likely in the near future that DotA 2 will replace LoL at MLG due to the larger money pool that Valve has to offer as well as the potentially larger playerbase.
