Any tips on what to do in late-game when the enemies have become so fed up being ganked by you that they save all their CC for the moment they see you in a teamfight and all pile on? Is the best option really to just throw out the VP, kill one/two and then back out allowing the rest of your team to go ham as the opposing team saves CC for you?

And does anyone have any good VODs for late-game (lvl 20+) Zeratul?

Basic rule for late game is to either initiate with VP, or wait for the fight to start before engaging. Regardless of what you do, you'll want to save Blink as an escape. It is not uncommon at all for me to completely disengage from fights and re-stealth before moving back in. Zeratul doesn't really need to be a sustained presence. He just needs to ensure that he kills at least one enemy hero.

His best maps are the ones that are roam/rotation heavy like Dragonshire, Tomb of the Spider Queen, and Blackheart's Bay. The only map where I don't like him is Haunted Mines. Range damage/siege comps are the name of the game there. Still, you may want to take him anyway if the enemy team has Jaina, Kael, or some other easily slaughtered glass cannon.

I'm trying this build:

1: regen master
4: focused attack (recently buffed from 50% to 75%)
7: follow through (same, from 25% to 40%)
10: VP
13: wormhole
16: rending cleave or double bombs
20: rewind


Double Bombs seems to activate Follow Through twice, so it should be better... but the rotation is slower, not to mention that a double skillshot isn't the best for garbage players like me. So I'll stick to Rending Cleave for a few games.

Either way, the burst is insane. On the other hand, without defensive talents I seem to die way too much before Wormhole.

I feel like Zeratul needs a new talent at 16 that is AA focused. Berserk just isn't good. I take double bombs by default, but I don't feel good about it.

I think Focused Attack @ Tier 2 is the overall better choice now for Zeratul after it got buffed to 75% from 50%. Some math:

Zeratul @ Lvl 20
AA Dmg: 294
Cleave: 415
Spike: 500

If you take gathering power your best case scenario damage bonus on abilities is (500 + 250 + 415) * .15 = ~174 bonus damage. This would be double bombs + cleave. But if you take focused attack you will get 294 * .75 = 220 bonus damage. Gathering Power only seems viable if you're going all out cleave and/or take rewind at 20 to double the bonus

I always take focused attack now. Gathering Power is basically obsolete unless you're doing a Cleave build. I'll be updating this guide sometime soon given that the build and talent information is out of date.

I want to start spamming Zeratul/Abathur games with my brother after reading this guide. Got stomped a few times by one of the top abathur mains on NA (Mill, 4000MMR) a few times with a zeratul on his team. You know what they say...if you can't beat em, join em.

Yes for ganks you want to stay on someone. But for team fights I often times hop in/out of people to maximize the AOE damage and the shield absorb.

Sorry for bumping this but it's a great guide and I just bought zeratul and falstad to add some fun to the roster...are the talent choice explanations at lvl 1 and 4 still up to date? I see a lot of focussed attack people at 4 over gatherting power? at 1 are the regen master talents still good or is it seasoned all the way now?

Since the nerf to mageatul a while back (double boms with rewind), the double bomb build has fallen a bit out of grace. Instead autoattack Zeratul is making a bit of headway. To make the most out of autoattack zeratul the focused attacks talent is used, and sometimes the seasoned marksman talent at level 1 is chosen. There is also a cleave build, but I find it kind of meh even though it does have good waveclear.
