The TeamLiquid Open tradition will continue next week as we hold an open tournament for Heroes of the Storm, the newest hotness in internet and streaming technology. A series that has roots back in our early StarCraft II days, the TL Opens give amateurs and veterans the chance to compete on an even field through a single elimination bracket event that anyone is able to participate in.
A TL Open is a good chance to test your skills with friends or hone your competitive instincts. As an open event this is ideal for smaller teams or newer players, and is a particularly good chance to test out a Heroes of the Dorm team should you be playing it, as it is one week before the qualifying day of that event.
Registration open until Sunday, Mar 22 6:55pm GMT (GMT+00:00) in Check-in begins at Sunday, Mar 22 6:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00) in Check-in closes at Sunday, Mar 22 7:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00) in Tournament begins on Sunday, Mar 22 7:05pm GMT (GMT+00:00)
Registration: Teams will register by having a Team Captain sign in using our tournament tool linked above.
Teams may register up until 5 minutes before the tournament begins. That is, they may register until Sunday, Mar 22 7:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00). After that, team captains will be required to check-in to confirm that they will be attending. Check-in occurs between Sunday, Mar 22 6:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00) and Sunday, Mar 22 7:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00). Players must both sign up before check-in time and check-in within the 55 minute period to enter the tournament.
Format Rules:
- Registration will be conducted by the team Captain, and only he must post to register
- Team Captains will be responsible for communication with refs and with the opposing team.
- 32 Team Single Elimination
- Tournament will be held on the Battle.net NA Server.
- Bracket will be displayed on TeamLiquid. Participants must log in to view opponent IDs and Codes to contact their opponents for matches.
- Captains must contact each other through Bnet chat to arrange the game.
- From Semifinals on, game will be created by TL Open Referees.
- Captains must report win and upload replay after each round.
- Captains may report loss. This is not required, but it will help the tournament run smoother.
- If a game's results are disputed (both players report win), Tournament Referees will check replays and determine who advances.
- Best-of-3 Round of 32, Round of 16, Round of 8, and Round of 4
Best-of-5 Finals
Full set of rules can be found here.
Streaming Players are encouraged to stream on their own channels up until the semifinals. We recommend and encourage a delay on these streams because of the possibility of stream cheating. We will cast the semifinals and finals through a channel which will be decided later.
Prize This will be a $100 winner take all affair.

Ya have fun and make teams! gogo
I have it as a 32 team event right now judging from other online cups but can expand it if enough people form teams and stuff.
|
I might grab some RL friends and play in this. Sounds like fun!
|
Cool! Will this be casted?
|
I had 12 heros including hero rotations, a pity most of my pals had overlapping heros with hero rotation, would had love to play in this

Yep, we'll do the semifinals and finals for sure and probably some community casts for earlier rounds.
|
Can't we just give this game a separate section instead of spamming the "Other Games" one?
|
Be sure to make a tournament on EU too!

Primary race: Zerg! I'm out of town on that date ;; I'll compete next time.

I don't have a team but would like to join one, mature adult, plays well with others. I'm in the Pacific Time Zone (California) I'm pretty good with any Heroe but prefer Heals or Assassin. wolfpack#1600 is my BNet tag don't judge by MMR please. I have been queuing solo and I'm still working on it. But I am pretty good at healing and playing in general I love this game and follow directions well, I don't argue and will listen to any and all instructions. I have Teamspeak 3, Vent, etc

Glad to see TL Opens for Heroes of the Storm. The nostalgia from the early SC2 days is real!
|
Looking for a few more people to join our team. We would require you to be able to use voice communication, and be available for practice before the tournament. PM if interested!

Nice signed up I was curious will people be allowed to stream the games?

I haven't played a competitive HOTS match in, oh, let's see... About six weeks. And Hotslogs says I'm 2355 mmr. And my only available computer is a laptop that risks overheating on minimum resolution and settings. Safe to say I suck bad and my laptop makes it twice as worse. And I'm barely level 30 and barely have 10 of the cheapest heroes. But you know what? Tournaments are damn fun regardless. Anyone else need a scrub for their scrub team, or want to try to form a scrub team with me, purely for fun? PM!!

Yep! That's always part of the fun of a TL Open.
I'd suggest doing it on a delay of some kind though.

I edited in a list of the people looking for teams, send around some PMs if you need a player!

You can remove me from LFT, I got my 5 and will be ready for the tournament tomorrow!

One Question:
How is the draft handled? Out of game tool, in game draft, or in chat? I'd hope that it's not in game to let people pick in optimal order (since most people don't have all the champions, and no swap is in game right now).
+ Show Spoiler +(http://www.stormcraft.com/en/drafttool/ is one example tool)

We'll be using the stormcraft tool, I'll add that into the rules and such.
Also the slots are full now but since I don't expect everyone to check-in feel free to still sign up! It will put you on a waiting list but people there will almost certainly get to play still! See everyone soon.

Check-in started! Seems some teams are already in it. Let me know if any of the rules are confusing or unclear this is our first ruleset for Heroes.
I'm ShinyPants#1709 in game chatting in the channel for reference!

Congratulation to the winners.
This tournament did better than I expected and I'm gladly surprised, but as always there's still room for growth and improvement.
Thanks to all the participants, and we look forward to bring you more Heroes action in the future!
