Haven't seen a post yet so I'll make it...
The other players I know personally and have stated that yes indeed everyone has left coast, the main reason being: They recently got sponsored by Azubu.
Azubu is an "alternative" streaming platform, but it is pretty much a Hearthstone Career killer, since Hearthstone lives and thrives on Twitch.tv
Players Leaving:
-Chakki(Top 16 Blizzcon NA) -Twisted(Top 16 Blizzcon NA) -Luffy -Impact

If all the players leave, then will Azubu maintain the sponsorship? Seems kinda a wasted effort if there is no team players left to sponsor..
|
This was the reason why players left curse right? Teams should realize so stay away from azubu. It's kind of a shame that nothing will ever rival twitch, but if it's good don't fix it.

LoL is their main game.

Azubu is shady and awful- don't deal with them please.
|
I personally haven't seen any of those guys stream on twitch more than maybe one or two times, so it seems weird that they value twitch so much when they aren't even active streamers.
|
Do you really need a team in this game ? There are almost none team events at this stage of the game.
|
I certainly don't blame them.

I stopped watching Artosis' and Tasteless' personal streams because they switched to Azubu months ago... I miss those guys.

Behind the scenes, teams help pay for travel, book events, and shop you around for advertising opportunities.
In other TCGs (like Magic), teammates help each other test secret decks. Sometimes these decks abuse a mechanic or interaction that hasn't been thought of before, so you want to keep that a secret for the big tournament. This isn't really a thing in Hearthstone yet because it only usually happens when new sets are released and a large influx of new cards are still being figured out. Once Hearthstone settles on a regular release schedule, I think this will happen in Hearthstone as well.

Even though I have little love for Azubu, it does make me a little sad that just the prospect of streaming through any other service than Twitch can cause a whole team to disband. Twitch is a great platform, but no matter how amazing it is, I can't help but feel a little uneasy that pretty much all games streaming and all esports is so dependent on a single company (at least in the western world) for its infrastructure.

I wonder if Azubu paid them that much so it would be worth to switch, at least for Artosis. He used to have about 2-4k veiwers sometimes when he streamed either SC2 or HS on twitch, on Azubu (unless counter is wrong, but I don't think it is), he usually had about 250-400 viewers. Now I understand that monopoly is a bad and stuff, but if Azubu, hitbox, viagame etc want to compete with twitch, they'd need way more than just buying a few teams/players, so they'd stream there instead. And so far all of those 3 are terrible at best. And Azubu is also shady on top of that. -.-

I know words like "shady" get thrown around the internet a lot but Azubu is most definitely something you don't want to be associated with if you are risk adverse in any way. Couldn't have been an easy choice for the players but I believe they made the right decision here.

Yeah, I definitely agree that when it comes to Azubu, there's a lot of extra incentive to stay away beyond just low streaming numbers. I guess I just meant that, in a general sense, I wish that straying away from Twitch wasn't akin to career suicide for a streamer, but in this case you're totally right that Azubu specifically is a problem.

With players switching around teams at the drop of a hat, it doesn't give the impression that there is much teamwork or loyalty actually going on. I also wouldn't be surprised if many practice with their own clique rather than the actual teammates that they may be versing in competition.
I know it's sort of the trend for e-sports, but in a single player card game surely it's more appropriate to label it as just sponsorship rather than it being a team.

Again, that's the way teams work in MTG.
I don't see why it wouldn't eventually translate to Hearthstone as well.

It is unfortunate that Twitch has the monopoly it does.
Is it really so hard to deliver a streaming platform that comes CLOSE to twitch? I mean it's not like Twitch is built on some secret tech - for instance, it's not like Ember.js is proprietary.
Right now it feels like that only thing that could compete would be a Youtube steaming platform, which I could see giving twitch a run for it's money.

Nitpicking aside, I actually 100% agree with you :p I'm really surprised that twitch is getting bought by Amazon while there are no viable competitors. Azubu sucks, I think youtube still doesn't allow advertisement, and own3d folded ages ago obviously. Curious to see whether anyone will challenge twitch sometime soon

Ahh, it all makes sense now. I wondered why Artosis didn't stream on twitch anymore. I have him followed and he wouldn't stream anything ever, let alone HS. Azubu just swallows everyone up.

Can someone explain why Azubu is shady? I don't have much knowledge of it. Just curious.
