Yes, 90 seconds might be good for 95% of the turns, but every once in a while there's going to be a very crucial turn that would require extra time. In my opinion, having 90 seconds normally with 2 turns per match that allows you to extend it to 180 seconds would be much better. Even in ladder I sometimes just run out of time while going through all the possibilities and that in my opinion would really ruin tournament matches... Losing because you simply didn't have enough time.
Tournament games should be played under normal conditions.
Watching games without timers is like watching games with training wheels.

This x1000. I watched the first 2 seasons of fight night all the way through, and by the time season 3 came around, every single player started to take 20 minutes a turn just because they could...Not only should a player be able to make a turn within a reasonable time limit, but the unlimited timers on turns made watching games so fucking boring. The announcers would call the play, the player would sit there and thumb over their cards for 10 minutes, and then make the exact play the announcers called 30 seconds into the turn. Boring as fuck

Boring as fuck I'm probably wrong, but I think it was eggi that had a post about how any player could make the right play after calculating every possibility over 20 minutes. Knowing what to do within 90 seconds should be expected from the top level players. And yeah, I completely agree that I got bored out of my mind trying to watch games when the guy has 2 cards and takes 10 minutes to decide if he should brawl to clear 6 of the 7 minions on the other side, or equip a 3/2 weapon and get killed the next turn.

How much time do people get in a physical TCG tournament? Probably either ~30 minutes per match or maybe ~4 minutes per turn or something?
|
30 mins per match in pokemon TCG. Thats pretty standard. Any they are 60 card decks.
Hearthstone should be no more than 20 mins.(being nice here)
I would say 15 mins(30 cards half of 60, half the time)
Though we would need a "sudden death" rule. I would say fatigue but only 1 damage a turn max extra.
Fatigue could be a little much, but maybe not. But I do not think we need timed matches in HS as long as the turns are timed.

45min for a Bo3 of Magic i think but you have to realize that in Magic there is a lot of shuffling, a lot ! You also can be warned for slow play (sometimes people try to run the clock when they are 1-0 up in a Bo3 and sometimes it's just that they are slow)
On Magic online it's 25 minutes for each side, if u don't win or loose before the countdown end you just automatically loose

I'm not suggesting without timers? I'm suggesting an option that lets you have extra time for a turn when you need it.
I also disagree that tournament games should be played in ladder conditions, that doesn't make any sense. See chess for example.

I almost enjoy this more than the UTH nerf to be honest.

Wow, I almost got the best arena reward ever. I had a 9 win run and part of my reward was a gold Unleash the Hounds (hence the relevance to this thread)! It's still in the "recently modified" change so I get a full 400 dust for disenchanting it!
