I hate ppl who say that there is no reason to play a game that is old or has worse graphics than current games.. Reminds me of an acquaintance I have who does not want to "waste time" on Fallout because the graphics are outdated.. sometimes I just want to hit him in the face.. with a hammer.

most people don't really care too much, but when i get talkin about the korean pro scene, ogn mbcgame, etc. they shake there head and look at me like i'm a nerd.

this thread has inspired me to try and start an e-sports club next year (or at the very least, an SC team). i know a couple of my friends who play BGH or fastest, but only like 1 or 2 play low money. I'm interested in seeing the SC to DotA/WoW ratio.

I hope I can get an teacher approval though, because the staff at our school generally disapprove of games. :[ (i.e., if we get caught playing any kind of game (whether it be flash or CD-requied) during break/lunch on the school computers, we get detention. D

The typical "What game is that? Looks pretty oldschool" response is the one I receive the most. I've also received a "You're Korean? Oh god... you play Starcraft, don't you?" from a Taiwanese student when we were first introduced.

I did manage to introduce my roommate to SC, but he was already a casual RTS gamer to begin with (he enjoys games like Battle for Middle Earth, Rome: Total War, and Stronghold). He complains rather frequently that SC is beyond his skill (he has trouble multitasking, etc.), but admits that it's a good game.

Thing is, he's the sort of gamer that positively HATES to lose, so he gets irritated every time he receives a thrashing. I've tried to alleviate this somewhat by matching him up with friends that are around his level (as well as the occasional 2v1 game against me), and playing a fair bit of casual UMS games. It's also worth mentioning that he plays Protoss and goes 2-base carriers every time.

My roommate last semester actually played starcraft. He wasn't very good, and he doesn't read or post on teamliquid, but he was familiar with the west channel and a lot of the well known American players. He played real maps and not fastest bgh, thank god. He really liked super obscure proleague maps that nobody plays anymore, if you see a guy hosting some random play/obs on west of a map that hasn't been played since 2003 that almost nobody has heard of, you probably found him. We only played like 10 or 15 games when we first got acquainted. After that he eventually started mad dodging me since I was a lot better than him even as rusty and inactive as I was. It was pretty badass though, he was mostly a "spectator" type player who did a lot of play/obs games and replays, but definitely did a good 50+ games every week, though a lot of that was 2v2 or bloodbath. He wasn't too concerned with using good build or getting better, only did iccup for like a week. I introduced him to the massive amount of proleague vods on youtube which he had been previously oblivious. He was like "omfg this is awesome!1", since he in general liked to watch more than actually play. Heh... he totally got me back into starcraft while I lived with him, I hadn't played for like 18 months until I moved in with him. Some other funny stories include me running a victory lap around our dorm courtyard hollering like a maniac while the sprinklers were going after winning an epic 40 minute zvt play/obs game where he was obbing, drunk double zerg 2v2s, and him winning 7 pvts in a row while drunk on 3/4ths of a bottle of vodka...opening with dt every time...against the same guy. Guy was hella nerdraging and demanding to rematch every time.

I also have some rl friends, we've known eachother for most of our lives. They were both hardcore serious war3 players all through our highschool years and a little bit when we all entered college. Their main gripes with starcraft were simply the lack of automine/mbs/unit selection limitations. Them playing sc2 hinges soley on whether these features are included or not. One of them insisted that TVP was highly imbalanced in favor of terran, despite playing maybe ~100 games lifetime and all on LT and the hunters. The other one still to this day insists that sc requires no micro and is just build build build attack move. hehe, funny guys.

Then the people you play with are either young or weren't into gaming while SC was the best game around. When people see me playing they always get nostalgic and start talking about it.

Most of the guys I know can respect such a game and are impressed by the intensity of it. However all the girls I know seem to absolutely hate it to no end.

my friends just play ums and bgh and the such when i told them to play low money their like 4v1 which i played a 4v1 and i got owned pretty badly too much to handle and their not interested in the korean scene T.T

my gf calls me a nerd for playing it lol. i get a lot of "i used to play that".

a lot of my friends stop playing starcraft because they get owned all the time. it's so unfriendly to new players lol. they just go back to dota saying that i should too but i find dota boring as hell. screw teamwork, i'd rather control a base and an army.=_=

Actually, AoE2 had a huge competitive following for a couple of years. Skill level got pretty high, but I think the community is pretty much dead now?

Most of the time I get "Is that like world of warcraft?"

But one time this kid behind me insisted that Madden NFL required more skill to play than SC. And that he could own me in SC because it was so easy, even though he's never played it. My heart grew 3 times smaller that day >:

it is slower but I like it that way. I like hour long epic games and such. Call me weird...lol I'm actually better at aoe than sc now that I think about it.

check out aokheavengames.net they might have some.
just imagine starcraft on a much larger scale...but with more expansions and forward building. In sc where you would get about 8 factories and aoe 2 you could/should have double that late game.
