You do realize that "White" is the accepted term of ethnicity just like "Korean". Check any standardized test and you'll see.
I don't think its acceptable. I'm not a color. That would like be calling all Asians yellow.
I mean sometimes I wonder if people have been living in bubbles. Oh noes someone called me white, I am so offended! My friend, "white" is completely acceptable because this refers to the white population of those in America. "Americans" is too broad a term to refer solely to the white population and I doubt you see "caucasian" being used often. Not to mention, "caucasian" would technically be incorrect anyhow. Look at ANY respected journals, newspapers, website, etc and they'll all use "whites." Same with blacks. People of African origin identify themselves as "blacks" and this is most generally accepted. These terms are actual ethnicities my friend, not judgement of color of the skin. So please get off your high horse and come back to Earth. Btw, props to the Korean kid.
To me this sounds like a school brawl which actually went *right*... Until the State stepped in.
White kid is insulting Asian for being Asian and hits him. Asian kid fights back and wins. Over, justice has won. Both live happy ever after and the white kid probably will have an a little deformed nose...
Was one of them actually going to the police or why has this come to the attention of the public?
I don't know about you guys but it looks like a pretty positive piece of news to me. A kid/school admin is racist, news at 11. What's heartening is that most of the students are up in arms about it even though they could have just kept silent, since it's nothing to do with them anyway. You will always have retards ruining the image of a group anywhere, but people who will speak up about it because it goes against what they believe is right is rare.

But why is that acceptable to call someone white when they are French or German. But no no no i am KOREAN Chinese japaneese not just Asian.
Well first of all it's not usually racist to describe someone as Asian instead of their nationality..( I guess it can be, depending on how you say it) But if you tried to do that for white people it would be way too confusing, since most of us in America would be like, 1/8 Irish 1/8 Polish 1/16 German 1/16 French etc... You don't really see that as much with Asian countries. They're still pretty racially homogenous.
Also, when you say white, that's just a description of an ethnic group, like when they do political polls and separate people into groups, it's always white, black, hispanic/latino, asian, etc.
Calling someone chinese usually has racial connotations behind it and also implies that all Asians are chinese, when there are many different nations in Asia (6 of the top twenty countries with the largest populations are yellow skinned). It's not the meaning of the word that matters the most in this situation, but the intention behind them that defines racism.
Calling someone white isn't offensive, but if you use a condescending tone of voice while saying white boy or something of the sort is rather offensive because you convey a sense of disdain or whatever.
It's just to show that the kid's a honor student. Clearly, they could have simply stated that he was an honor student.
Mistaking someone as Chinese isn't bad for initial encounters. If Asians take excessive offense, it is because they are too sensitive about their own racial identity. People around the world would do themselves favors to take insensitivity training and allow for ignorance in others. East Asians should especially take this to heart, because the sensitivity and offense given to being mistaken in identity is sometimes born out of mutual racism and disdain rather than wounded pride.

This is true. Check this site. See if you can tell the difference.
In ethnically homogenous South Korea, such mixed-race offspring are generally viewed with contempt. And because social status is based on being registered under the father's name, children raised by their mothers alone in effect are treated as nonpersons.
n interviews with the media here, Kim [Ward's mother] said she did not move back to South Korea because of discrimination against herself and her child. When she visited in 1998 to attend her mother's funeral, she told the Chosun Ilbo newspaper, people spat at her because she had been married to an African American.
Even in the United States, Korean immigrants excluded her son from their gatherings because of his racial background. "After that, I told Hines never to hang out with Korean kids," Kim said.
From another blog quote: This year, Jang pulled off a rare feat for mixed children in South Korea when she graduated from high school.

Man Canada is soooo RACIST and bigoted, damn white people! Korea and Asian countries are so friendly to foreigners and people that look different than themselves. One day Canada will catch up the civilized and open minded Korean people.
To those like lilsusie who say they understand it because the people are visually homogenous I don't think that is a good excuse. We all see what happens when a country is racist or believe they are supperior with the actions of the Japanese Empire in WW2 and before. When you think that other people are below you or inferior it allows you to dehumanize them and do very evil things. Every country that is xenophobic and racist should be ashamed. This doesn't mean they have to open up immigration etc, but at least consider people of other races with respect and common decency.
Also I expect this person in Canada to get off (hopefully) and not be expelled.
kids in elementary school drawing pics of japan burning they are obviously taught from birth to be little fucking bigoted racists, and you can tell because you have all the koreans on this board coming out with WELL IF YOU ARE DISCRIMINATED AGAINST IN KOREA ITS OK CAUSE OUR CULTURE
but if it happens to a korean in canada, OH MY GOD WE SUFFER SO MUCH
jesus christ koreans have a sicker persecution complex than republicans
welcome to the politcally correct world, where it's wrong to defend yourself, it's ok to sue somebody for making you eat your own words and the general policy is to have the youth grow up as sheep to be victimized later in life by crime, big business and the government.
Sounds fun don't it?
edit: Also I don't really see why this degenerated into ANOTHER racism discussion when the real issue should be why it's always the guy hitting back who gets punished.
All people are racist everywhere, if you really wanna speak in such generalities, but there is some truth in such a statement :/
im just gonna anwer the only 2 answers i ever hear when i ask koreans this question:
"we are a small country that has been conquered a million times and so we hold our pure blood very important because it's obviously impossible that throughout history of being invaded and occupied by every country we could have ever mixed... and also we won the korean war without help (even though 15 countries from the UN sent troops)"
"we were such a poor country and now we are rich because of our ingenuity so we are so proud" actually because of the US government who are so horrible omg we need to get them out, however, the Department of Defense has since the korean war been a top 5 employer (by total #) of Koreans in korea so that would completely fuck them over
the korean government used to tell women to prostitute to us soldiers to get dollars in the name of korea i love when koreans talk to me about the han river miracle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miracle_on_the_Han_River i call it the miracle of Yongsan Garrison I mean you guys know the billions that go to Iraq for reconstruction blah blah, yeah that's what happened in Korea but Koreans take 100% credit for this Not to mention no foreign country would ever invest a penny into Korea without the security of US forces guaranteeing their money was safe
I just gotta ask, what are you so proud about?
Also a disclaimer, I don't dislike koreans or anything (which is why i live here), but their insane nationalism that ends up creating racism (which i fucking can't stand, no excuses) is irritating to say the least, consider how often their facts are just wrong
Again schools in Korea are basically propaganda machines. Kids are just memorizing what to think.
