some guys have seen to many zombie movies. LOL 2 billion that's 2 000 000 000 000 in European scale, meaning 160 times more than world population or 2 000 000 000 in american scale, that's still like 70 times more than "mere" 30 million that Mexico City has (with suburbs) Actually a billion is just straight up 2 000 000 000,dont believe theres any such "scale". Billion just means something else in english than other languages. Fx. in Danish "en Billion" is 1000 billions. A billion is called "en Milliard" in danish. Yes there are two different scales, the long and short scales. (formerly known as the British and American scales)

IMO i dont know why people overreacts and makes such a big fuss por 100 > people dead by a disease in a city with over 15kk inhabitants. I mean i think more people dies of old age than the disease spreading.
Anyways, whatever the government says.

if you were one of those 100> ppl, would you feel the same? i mean.. im really more calm now, but think about it, if you got sick, or anyone you knows got sick, would you feel the same? do you know how much a sneeze can travel? now imagine something like that in a subway... the chances are slim yeah, but they exist.

@ Cloud about the "we CANT go out" comment, its just a government "tip", when i said the "AVOID EVERYTHING" it was because of that... hopefully you went to a beach or something like that.. looks like warm weather kills this bastard.
im still alive and a little bit more calm, i will take my cautions, ill go to the hospital as soon as possible to get my shot (prolly tomorrow i dont want to lose my whole day in the hospital, i hate them) and if my GF its calm enough ill ask her to see her somewhere outside...
Damn the white spaniards for bringing their sickness to america!
back on topic: this sucks man, hope everything is alright :\

Man, use the respirator if it's that serious really, don't risk it, hospital could be place you may get it while waiting for the shot. Having two nurses dead is a proof enough for me besides the obvious fact that sick people are usually there.

Brings back memories of SARS in Toronto; even though it wasn't as serious or dangerous as people thought, everyone was scared shitless of coming here.

lol yeah reminds me of SARS in HongKong my personal survival strategy at that time: (well gov. commercials and chain emails said this stuff too) - consume massive amounts of hand sanitation gel (NO DONT DRINK IT DAMNIT) - wipe stuff down with 1% bleach 99% water solution - press elevator buttons with your elbow - wear face mask if you're really paranoid / pregnant (my chinese teacher was XD) - stay home and play SC for hours and hours (or in my case it was CounterStrike at that time, odd how I mark my life's significant events with what videogames i was playing at that time @_@)

stop flaming the guy jeez
The situation is like this, this Flu comes from porks and started in a hospital in Mexico City, apparently there are like 30 deaths now and only Mexico city and the suburbs are un quarantine, Guadalajara and Monterrey have begun taking action to avoid this to spread. Everyone is in panic because we people of 0-30 year range have never seen something like this.
Wish us luck

My research supervisor is a flu specialist. I don't mean to offend anyone but he's probably going to stay well-funded for a while with these outbreaks...
Anyways, when 20-40 year olds start dying, that's really scary. Flu kills a lot of people but it's usually due to another illness compromising the immune system (ie. old people, sick people). But young people? Oh boy, not good! The Spanish flu (killed like 2 million in the 1910s) worked like this - the transmission was roughly the same as regular flu but the virulence (the killing potential) was much greater.

That's comforting....

No worries though, today's detection and quarantine capabilities are way better than back then. A flu won't outbreak like that again... (hopefully).
