Pretty much offers students free downloads for most Microsoft products with the one big exception being the Office bundle. Of course this only works if your school signed up for it MSDN AA. I don't know about Windows 7, but the did offer Vista right after its release.

Stores do give you the CD key for your installation, you just need to get a CD of the correct version if you want to make use of it. Which is way harder than it needs to be.

A friend bought a laptop from a major PC store in the UK with Vista installed. He didn't get a Vista installation disk, say if he wanted to reinstall the OS after a format or install it the again after changing the HDD etc. I think he got some recovery disk though if I remember correctly but I don't know exactly what it does. That was it.

Depends what kind of Windows your talking about. I currently am on Windows Vista Eternity 2009 edition atm. Its a "pirated" windows vista that was ramped up by this guy with a ton of modifications made that makes it so much more better. It's for free via torrent :/ So i guess no. I didnt pay for it
