Again, I feel like I have to ask, even if it wouldn't let go so fast, do you imagine that there would be ANY way that that dog could kill you? As I said, I've been attacked too, twice even, one time I reacted the other time I did not, but neither time did I actually feel like I'm seriously overpowered and felt my life being threatened.
Im not a n00b, I just play like one.

well, dogs are genetically engineered, in a sense, not to kill humans. If you were attacked by a wild dog, this instinct would obviously be watered down, but your standard house pet dog will generally attack to establish dominance, not to kill. It's simple darwinism. When dogs were integrating with humans thousands of years ago, the violent ones that killed humans were killed themselves, or at least run off from the pack to die in the wild. Therefore a dog generally won't try to attack for the kill. If there was a hypothetical, no holes barred fight though, I've got to give it to the dog.

Humans tend to get almost superhuman strength in life threatening situations. If you can protect your throat, I think human takes it easy.

if I would be naked alone in the room with a dog and he would attack me, my adrenaline would be pumping i would feel no fear and my strength would increase 4x or 2x least. Knee to the head = gg dog.

I have idea of using my reproductive organ as a bait. In case dog grabs it I wold grab him by the belly lift him up and do powerslam - head to the ground - gg again. I win 2-0.

average human > average dog.
otherwise this question should have been posted on the dogternet, on a dogforum, and dog voting and arguing about killing human.

Why are so many people talking about throwing punches at a dog, lol? Choke that thing. It's gg.

All a dog has is its jaw - that's it, people. We are humans. You're telling me you couldn't macgyver your way out of a fight with a dog when all it has is one tool to our... many?

Just sounds crazy to me. Say what you want, I'd mess up the dog fast. Unscathed? Probably not. Have you seen a dog fight? They're vicious. But, that's not the point. I'd win.

I'm actually getting annoyed with people enough to set this up, lol. I'm sure the line of volunteers will be a lot shorter than the total people saying they would win.

Yeah see, it's easy to be on the dog side, and then go "oh well, I was wrong", but would you bet your life the dog would win? I mean if the guy wins, would you kill yourself?
No, and you know why? Because you don't wanna die. And neither will whoever goes into that room. And trust me, even though dogs are vicious, humans on the edge are animals as well. I would bet my life that the human would win, I'm that sure. Fuck I would even do it if the reward was great enough (something like: you win, you get 100M EURs so you never have to worry about money again, you lose, you die).
Not that I would willingly kill an animal, and I'm probably a bit above the "average human" standards, in terms of height and weight (5'11"/194lbs) not physical condition per se, but I do run/go to the gym every few days.

Let's make it a money bet then, I'll cough up a few grand if someone will step in with a German Shepard of my choosing (no it won't be a roided up freak). The number of people stepping up will be less, because they are all talk and most of them would take flight and not fight.

As I said, it's easy to choose a side when not much is at stake. But you would not bet your life the dog wins. When someone is stepping in, he literally bets his life he will win, the dog isn't capable of rational thought, so it would only make sense that whoever votes for the dog would have their life at stake too if the dog loses.
And sure there will be very few people willing to do it, unless stakes are really high (at least a few hundred thousands I assume), because they are risking their lives after all.

This is the only aspect of the discussion that bothers me, people don't seem to realize that the human will be very... animal-like in a fight like this.

I'm not saying that humans can't get crazy when they are forced to. But as you said "people don't seem to realize that human will be very... animal--like in a fight like this", you would have to bring that out in someone. A dog is way closer to that state of mind at any given time.
Why would you ever choose failure, when success is an option.

I agree with that, but if facing death won't bring that out in someone, then nothing will, lol.

Emphasis added. The term is actually "no holds barred", as in all wrestling holds (including potentially dangerous joint locks, chokes, and neck cranks) are permitted.

To all those who talked about low weighing chimpanzees that would be dominated by athletes, here's some information:

A 165-pound male chimpanzee named "Boma" registered a pull of 847 pounds, using only his right hand (although he did have his feet braced against the wall, being somewhat hip, in his simian way, to the principles of leverage). A 165-pound man, by comparison, could manage a one-handed pull of about 210 pounds.

Even more frightening, a female chimp, weighing a mere 135 pounds and going by the name of Suzette, checked in with a one-handed pull of 1,260 pounds
. In dead lifts, chimps have been known to manage weights of 600 pounds without even breaking into a sweat.
A male gorilla could probably heft an 1,800-pound weight and not think twice about it.

Yeah. Have fun fighting that.

Unless the person panics and tries to only defend it should be pretty simple because of massive weight difference.

Get on top of the dog, GG.

I'm not specially tall or fat and I still weight like more than double an average dog lol.

They simply have longer and denser muscle fascicles. Also, most of their muscle mass is located in their arms and limbs to help them climb better.

^ Yeah. So no one goes up against a chimp in a fight unless you want your legs and arms torn off your body in less then a second.

Alright, a few people from irc and I were talking, and we started, for some reason, debating whether or not a human could win in a fight 'to the death' against a dog.

For the sake of accuracy, I will present a specific situation for the poll.

You and a German Sheppard are put into a regular sized room and you must fight until one of you dies. The dog will immediately attack you (once released) and it will be set on killing you. You have no weapons, and are wearing no protective clothing, just regular street clothes. You can't use anything that isn't part of you as a weapon. Given this situation, who do you think would win the fight?

Poll: Dog or Human?
(Vote): Dog wins
(Vote): Person wins

Feel free to discuss your views in the thread.

Edit: sorry.

Not a very good source.

The experiment that the person is referencing was later proven to be very wrong... The counter experiment was actually sourced in an article a while back when that show-chimp ripped off a ladies face. (If memory serves correctly... I could be misremembering something)

lol @ can't read the question properly. We are comparing averages here, not fully trained attack dogs.
